For example, let's say for example we buy a 2TB ssd kit, then when the installation goes wrong, the T2 event of the old SSD doesn't reboot, right?
Correct. We have to restore the old SSD in DFU mode. Even if it was pulled from the machine, and reinserted.
Rerun the DFU restore if it refuses to boot again.
I have seen youtube video where the SSDs were swapped between two Mac Studios. But it failed because they were of different storage size. When the modules were put back in the original machine, they ran DFU restore again. And successfully installed macOS afterwards.

I sold my old 2TB kit to a macrumors user, that I pulled from my Mac Pro when I upgraded to 4TB.
He ran the DFU restore. When he turned the Mac Pro on, it showed an empty folder.
I believe he had to boot into Disk Utility and format the SSD. And then do an internet recovery.

He did not tell me what macOS version he installed. But he hasn't asked me for any help after that. So I assume he had no further problems with the installation.

Hello. What you're saying is that if we remove an SSD from a machine (without formatting or making any changes to it), install another SSD, and even if we successfully install an OS on the new one, if we then put the old, untouched SSD back in, we have to start all over from scratch, right?

If that's the case, APPLE has really, really messed up. Are they trying to force people into building their own PCs?

... we have to start all over from scratch, right?
Yes.
Understand that the intel macs with the T2 chip, and Apple M-series do not use SSD in the manner PCs do.
It is really just NAND chips on a PCB, without the controller hardware.
So it really begs the question, why Apple's storage upgrades are so elevated into the extreme?

Have a look at

I don't think that Apple messed up.
The T2 chip was introduced with late Intel macs. It has a wide variety of functions.
All M-series macs have integrated this in the SoC design.

A relative of mine bought it just out of curiosity. Curious to see if the box could be original equipment vs Apple. So I think this is a non-Apple production product. He started the return without looking at the contents (without cutting up the box).

There, see - that's what makes me wonder:

Model A2445. Hopefully someone will have genuine packaging for the same thing to be able to determine if that's correct or not.

One day hopefully a third party will come along and do replacements for these. Surely there must be a market.

I am still of the opinion, it is a genuine part. I am baffled why you order from Apple's shop on Amazon, and then decide it's fake, without checking.

Here is my box with packaging. I ordered this directly from Apple Sweden.
I wrote 1 TB KIT to remind myself what size is in the box

Can I ask how long ago you bought that?
I was told in the Uk that we can't buy the SSD separately. From the Apple Uk team;

So it looks like we have got to the bottom of it.
We can order the part but only as a repair not as an upgrade.
So in this instance we can not do this for you.
There are a couple of third party options and Apple authorised repair centres that may be able to do this for you.
If you head to locate.apple.com you will be able to see the authorised repair centres, it is definitely worth contacting a couple of local ones.
My reply;
If that’s the case I’d like to express my extreme disappointment that Apple seem to have left their Pro customers who have purchased, (very expensive), machines little if any options when it comes to accessories after such a short space of time. It’s a 2019 model and it’s now only early 2024 – they would surely still have been selling this as a new item but just a few months ago?
In this situation it’s particularly egregious as upgrading hard drives should be simple but what makes the Mac Pro in particular different is that the machine won’t run at all without an internal Apple branded drive installed. Mine is by no means the most expensive variant in the range but had I been one of those that had configured and spent up to £50,000 and had the internal hard drive fail the machine would be useless and, I’d seriously question further spending on Apple products going forward.

I’m a very small fish in a very big pond but I’d appreciate if you’d escalate this further up the chain. Whilst yourself and Rob have been more than helpful and this is no slight on you whatsoever, it does take the shine off the whole Apple experience.

Actually, I didn't buy it, my cousin bought it as a test. The thought of returning it without damaging the package...
Now I'm starting to itch 😁. I wonder if I should buy it too. I will examine the package and analyze the situation.

Exactly right.

Good to see the other image above, that looks like the parts are genuine.

Genuine parts for replacement have boxes with labels exactly like that. Seems real to me.

The king is finally back. And yes, I mustered up all my excitement and placed another order. All that's left now is the DFU wars (I need to find a second Apple machine). There are some good discussions going on here. I hope everyone is happy. Best regards.

Can I ask where you're placing your order please, is it direct with Apple, (which country), or Amazon?

Amazon Türkiye... The seller is Amazon, and the store owner is Apple Store... I wish everyone had access to it. Also, 1 TB and 2 TB kits are on sale (there's not much price difference between them. I hope you can get it somehow. Best regards.

Many thanks for this. Appreciate it.

Seems I was too slow. They were present when you posted the links but I was otherwise engaged.
Clicked now and all gone I suspect maybe someone here beat me to it.

No, it's still there. In fact, there are currently 5 4 TB SSDs in stock. It's unlikely to be caused by your browser settings (unlikely).

Amazon will not export the kit. As far as I can tell.
I also tried to log in on the Turkish site. When I ordered one kit, it produced an error. With no kits available

It won't let me do it now but I remember it came up with a red error bar.
All I see now is this;View attachment 2552985
Very interesting. Years ago I found a product on Amazon dubai. The only difference is that I gave the address of a friend who lives there and I was able to get the product. You seem to have no product at all, let alone the address. I just checked and there are still 5 of them. If I could, I wish I could make everyone happy, but it's a futile dream... Can you register a trial Tr Address (find a sample Tr Address from google) and check the stock status?
