downloading the "official" update now and will replace the one i installed yesterday...shouldn't be a problem...

When I try to update using the .ipsw is gives me unknown error 1403. Any advice?

Ive downloaded the update above
but before i go ahead i need to finalize one pedantic point

ive noticed that no where on the initial post does it say ipod touch
does this mean that theres a seperate one for iphone and ipod touch?
or can i go ahead and put this update on there

it may be blatantly obvious, but i dont want to risk a thing

thanks mucho

It's not for the Touch. This thread is about the iPhone. Buy the Touch software through iTunes.

I don't think there is much of a difference between the two files. I didn't notice any issues yesterday and today after many hours of activation problems my iPhone behaves exactly as yesterday...
Having said that I think everybody should upgrade to the official released firmware.

Apple allows you to re-download any application for free.

Does anyone know if this applies to downloading from the iPhone as well?

I downloaded apps prior to 2.0, then installed 2.0 this morning, but didn't have time to actually upload the apps to the iPhone (due to the whole "Accessing iTunes Store" debacle).

If I redownload them from the actual phone, will they still be "free"?

Folder?

Did anybody's download of 1,1 appear as a folder titled iPhone 1,1_2?

When I downloaded the unofficial 2.0 (1,2) yesterday it appeared as a .zip folder, which worked fine once I renamed it .ipsw. This one is completely different.

Can I just change my firmware to the official one by clicking restore on iTunes while the iPhone is connected?

When I do it, I get an error saying that the source couldn't be found. I deleted the iPhone 3G firmware.

I'm so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!

right ok, here's my story. I have an iPod touch, with 1.1.4 thingy on it yeah? when i click on update, it says there is a new software version available, but when i click on learn more, it loads up in the itunes store, then returns to the summary page of the iPod. So do you think I should go on Restore and THEN update? Shall i just keep trying to update til im blue in the face? HELP ME!!!!

LOL. Love the paranoia. Today's is snappier than yesterdays. Hilarious. How different do you think the hardware is between the two phones? Not much! It's the same build. I'd love to see a diff of the files on my phone vs. your phones after you've spent all this time re installing the same files on your phone again from the 1,1 package. Have fun! I'm gonna get back to using my phone.

Maybe I'll go reinstall Windows on my PC. I heard Microsoft just released a version that is on a CD that is a different color than it was before.

You have to admit, this was one botched rollout.

I don't think that is fair to say it was a botched rollout. Apple didn't roll anything out early. (I don't want to drive a wedge here but . . .) if it weren't for people's impatience, and waiting to download it properly though itunes, there would be not as big a problem (plus the server's probably wouldn't be so overburdened).

haha!

I love it. What is wrong with people that after waiting at least 6 months, they can't wait for the official update to be pushed properly for 1 more day that they used a "leaked" link? Too funny, way to go!

Will my old iPhone reactivate even though I have the 3G now and is activated if I go and restore it through my backup?

Am I the only one who didn't have any problems at all upgrading to the leaked firmware yesterday on my original iPhone? I'm still running everything quite fine, and I'm not so sure it's even worth going through the updating process again.

Server's back up, currently just clicked on "Check for update" in iTunes, it found the 2.0, d/l'ing now..

This is for the 1st Generation iPhone.. currently running, 1.1.4

Anybody know if the 2.0 firmware upgrade

will erase my SMS messages ? Thanks.

Backups

I did install the 2.0 software from yesterday's link. Now I want to install the official 2.0 software. I have one problem.. I can not back up my phone. With the 2.0 version I installed yesterday, it takes hours to back up.. It is still going on... I am on windows XP.

1. Do anyone know where ITunes backups are stored?
2. Do anyone have the same issue?

Thanks

As I understand it, they're associated with your iTunes account, not hardware (you may be able download them to other computers too).

I can't verify this because, well, I'm scared to try with anything paid for :)

...there have been sporadic reports of people having Applications quitting immediately after launch. This has happened both with original iPhone and iPhone 3G versions. The solution is to simply delete the application and redownload it from the App Store. Apple allows you to re-download any application for free.

Turning your phone off and on again fixes this. I've had it happen a few times after lots of activity. probably a memory leak. That's what happens when you launch apps developed with Beta software :)

I also have the iTouch and cannot find where to download/buy the software in itunes. I've looked almost everywhere and can't seem to find it, so I'm probably missing something/not seeing it. Can anyone help me find and install the new iTouch software?
