Great work antzona all we needed was little press. Thanks for taking that step.

No problem. I was glad the engadget story caught the attention of the PR guy from nVidia, it is nice to know that they are working on this. Well, if the email was really from someone at nVidia...

I'm sure it is. I don't think Nvidia wants to look bad, especially being printed on two different tech sites.

Thank you all ! God bless you all for speaking up about the situation and now you SEE? Nvidia Listened TO US.
IF it weren't for us raising our frustration on the matter this wouldn't have gotten fixed.

Everyone who disrespected us for making a valid complaint doesn't deserve our respect.

I'm very happy for this now , I will keep my Mac Pro, and but will be wary on my next Mac Pro. I'm still interested in Apple, but some constructive criticism was absolutely necessary.

Radeon 2600XT in old mac pro

I know its not the 8800 but i thought this was relevant:

Well my 2600XT radeon card arrived this morning. I tried copying in the x2000 drivers in case they worked with 10.4.11. Then I put the card in my 2006 mac pro & it booted fine (replacing a 7300) but the drivers did not load and the video was sluggish. Upgraded to 10.5 and they still did not load, upgraded to 10.5.1 and they loaded. I did later do an archive & install to fix a few things - as i would recommend to all, but the short answer is that the video is fine , overall performance is snappy but this is part due to the leopard upgrade & part the card. All i can say at this stage is that it works & feels fast. I will post an update when i have tried a few apps & woken from sleep a few times. If there are any particular tests people want let me know.

benchmarks for your 2600xt

:)

Can you ear his fan when you play to some ultimate 3d game?

If you play some game in windows can you adjust the graphic card fan?
or adjust automatically with the heat?

If you have installed nfs most wanted can you play better in 1280x1024 than the same test with the 7300gt? (with maximum detail)

thanks!

Good to hear that NVIDIA is stepping up to the plate and fixing this, a lot of people will be looking to buy this upgrade in the next year or so. In the end, it looks like Apple was unresponsive because they were talking to NVIDIA about a fix before saying anything publicly.

I'm still more excited by the prospect of flashing newer G92-based cards using the Apple 8800GT's firmware...

Especially considering that the NVIDIA 10.5.2 kext has the Device ID (0x0600) of the Geforce 8800GTS 512MB listed ;)

this really sounds great, the new g92 cards look great and the benchmarks are amazing too. And by the end of feb we'll have the 9600's

People want to say that if not exactly the same (probably is) with the apple 8800gt bios (new version for old macpros) you can flash that bios in the 8800 gts pc card. Or adapt the bios easily for the G92 pc card

So would a PC 8800GTS 512MB have an EFI-compatible ROM? If not, where would we get one from?

Ahhhh

Mine's now been bounced to the 11th March too.

I am convinced this is all about Apple keeping cards to ship on orders for the new mac pros with existing and loyal customers being forced to wait. When new orders dry up and they need to find a revenue stream then the fix will come.

Ho Hum - fun whilst it lasted I suppose.

TBH, I'm happy to wait a bit so that there's no need to fanny about with firmware and flashing. If it goes on too long, though, I'll consider flashing a PC card.

Funny you should say that!

I was to receive my last week, then I got a call, then an email, then the dates jumped to 51 days as well.

There was a guy from Portugal that placed his order inmidiatly and claimed that it had shipped. But then again, so did my... right before I got a call.

I got so fed up with this that I canceled my order... guess they got what they wanted:mad:

Just a quick note, I got my HD 2600 in at the end of last week and have been tinkering with it.

The ROM on it is very interesting. I don't want to say too much at this point, but would anyone be interested running Radeon HD 3000 Series cards under Mac OS X?

Because, if so...
