Mine is a Mac Pro 1.1 is this still a "first generation" ? Will it benefit the "Mac side" of my system to purchase 2 cards ? One review at the Apple Store shows a guy claiming 2 cards with sli............

WOW! It's actually dropped £50 in price since January!

Even cheaper on the HE store! :D

*edit* Ordered.

Does happy-dance!

We were there at the beginning, frustrated to the end, ordered and cancelled, then avoided the mudslinging. £156 (I guess again you got it for less ;) ) so whilst 3 months late we benefit from a pretty hefty price drop to boot. Your order is a few hours before mine but we should both be happy bunnies very soon.

How could we ever doubt Apple. Heinous crime. :D

April 23

I guess I'm late compared to those who will get it tomorrow !
I just ordered one and it says shipping apr 21-23... Oh well, I can wait... This is great news, in the nick of time too....

what's wrong with that and what's wrong with you? why should we pay 100 more dollars for the same hardware? You fanboys who are willing to bend over backwards for Apple make me sick...

its fkn logic.
have you ever thought about the fact they have to recoup their costs for R&D over a smaller market?
got an issue, go buy a PC.

I told myself I wouldn't buy one since I don't do much heavy gaming. My favorite game to this point is still Unreal Tournament 2004.

Ordered the 8800GT 30 minutes after telling myself I wouldn't.

Might have to buy a few new games to celebrate.

LOL Went through same process in January. This time I didn't even have to think. In fact my only thought was "why didn't you read MacRumors earlier today you numpty!"

UT - great game. Now......do macs actually do Games...........:D

My doubt of Apple ended with the very first "steve-mail" :D

£151.58 national HE agreement price.

It's been worth the wait, though. It's only about £15 - £20 more than the PC 8800GT over here and there's no need to piss about with hand-making a power cable. It really isn't worth going the "flashing" route now, unless you're a hater making a point or you're really strapped for cash.

Well I ordered mine last night. I've been following this forum since the new mac pros were announced with the new cards and went through the depression after we found out the new cards wouldn't work in the old mac pros. I'm glad Steve kept to his word. I just hope they learned there lesson for the future if they plan to release more cards. Just put the EFI32 rom on it from the get go :p

Cool. When I ordered mine yesterday I was giddy like a kid that had received his first Star Wars action figure. :D

Ordered. I am sooo happy. I even accidently loaded the Aussie page and was considering the $379 price :D

Man, you are giving tour age away! :p

I have to wait until next week for my to arrive in Spain! But I have been waiting for so long that... a day here and there is not going to kill me :D

Does anyone know if they will release a firmware which will allow the use of the (early 2008 model) in pre 2008 mac pros? I ordered a early 2008 model couple months ago and can not return due to I got a apple employee to purchase it.

Thanks

The Apple Employee couldn't return it, how weird. If you can't flash it, Ebay it.

I just want to say...

Thank you to everyone for keeping this thread alive. We dont get this card without the 100,000 views.

And thank you to Apple for listening. This is a company i can invest in.

Could someone please answer a simple question...........Will installing 2 of these do anything for leo? I saw a post on the Apple reviews of one guy using 2 8800's with sli. Does this only work in Windoz and Linux for doubling the graphics bandwidth?

Installing 2 in a Mac Pro will do no more than allow you to drive up to 4 monitors, or dedicate one 8800 GT per monitor and run only 2 monitors without sharing VRAM.

Mac Pro's do not support Crossfire or SLI so you can't 'join' the cards and make them work together.

Thanks man, Ordering 1. Anybody need a slightly used ati x1900 lol

Whats a fair price to ask for one of these on craigs list ? I got my Mac Pro in April '07

WOW. are you serious? Should every company start doing this? Should we start paying for drivers and updates as well? because you know... "R&D" and we all know how poor Apple is.

Bummer. I built a nice PC three weeks ago for $550 (8800GT and all the goodies). Not sure what to do now.

Doing some driver searching in advance. 64 bit Linux drivers are pretty current, but look how old the Vista one is. Hope they hit the mark. Ati seemed to have a new one every month.

Y'know those cookies you bought yesterday from the store? You could probably make 'em cheaper if you went out and bought some flour, eggs, milk etc - and baked 'em yourself. Oh and that sweater your Mom gave you... Why not save her the money next time and knit your own?

You're a parasite. You've contributed nothing to this thread, and then jumped in when the problem has been resolved and start bleating about fanboys and begging for someone to tell you how to re-configure a PC card. Want to flash the card? Go ahead, be our guest - figure it out for yourself. Oh wait, you can't - you'd rather have someone else make the effort for you, do all the testing, and potentially brick a couple of cards in the process that they'll have to pay for.

You're clearly a kid who has grown up in the torrent age, because you seem to think that you don't have to pay for anything. Profit? Bah... companies should run at a loss, just so that you can have what you want, when you want it, at a price which makes it unrealistic for them to continue to offer the product. I'm quite happy to accept that a lot of Apple products are priced at a premium for the specs. But this is NOT a mass-market product. Given the cost of engineering the card/drivers for what will be a pretty low volume of sales, I'd be surprised if Apple makes much money on this one at all.

so i have the ATI card now. could i also install this card at the same time? i know there's no SLI or anything (they aren't the same cards anyways), but could install both and run 4 monitors?
