cool.

and will there be a noticeble difference in the speed of my Mac?

Hi,

one more question - I was just wondering if I need to replace the RAM thats already in the MAC with a new one when I upgrade or do I leave it there and just add the second one (which will be a 2 gig RAM)

cheers

If you have 1GB now, chances are it is 2x512MB, so you'll have to replace.

If it is a 1GB stick, you can add the 2GB to it for 3GB.

posted here again after the PM just in case:eek:

If you are currently (legitimately) running Leopard (10.5.x) then an upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.x) costs only $29.

I'll upgrade to Leopard first, then Snow Leopard later once any bugs are resolved. cheers.

hey guys,

I found a message on the apple.com forum advising me to install Leopard a week or so before I upgrade the RAM so I can "find out how tolerant Leopard is of the ram you have and once it's running stable add additional ram".

would you guys agree?

I personally am waiting and I tell most friends to wait.

SL looks like a solid upgrade but I like to wait 1-2 months for the kinks to be worked out before I get it.

Bleh, you are just wasting time. I'm running the Beta since the WDCC and it's working so smooth, just very small graphic bugs :)

I am going to agree with others, you should upgrade your RAM it is so cheap at this point that there is no reason not to. And after the upgrade to more RAM Snow Leopard should run fantastic on that system.

Good luck!

Not really wasting time for me since SL on the whole doesn't give me any real upgrade for anything I do.

Been running Leopard for months now without a problem.

but should I follow the advice from the guy at the apple.com forum and upgrade the OS first, give it a couple of weeks and then install the new RAM?

do mean it doesn't matter which goes first, or both can be done together?

I would install RAM first, and then the new OS (I assume this is what you mean). Basically you will be able to tell if the system is still stable before trying out a new OS which may have some bugs. Not saying it WILL, but its nice to differentiate between software and hardware problems.
