So I just now am seeing my iPhone X shipment in UPS My Choice. I went ahead and scheduled a hold for pickup at my local UPS customer center.

Is it OK that I scheduled this hold for pickup so early in the shipping process? Anyone else do this? I just have this feeling that by scheduling it so early I could have screwed something up, and that maybe I should have waited until the package was state side to schedule the hold for pickup.

Thanks!

You'll be fine. It will travel like normal, with the only difference is that it will not get on a truck for local delivery that day. It will go to the service counter instead, and wait for you to arrive with your photo ID to pick it up.

You should be ok. I usually wait until it’s stateside to hold for pickup. Others have already requested heirs to be held like you did. You will be ok. Just relax and breathe. Friday is still a few days away.

Just wait until it shows up in your support profile, you’ll really get antsy then. Happy tracking!

Best part of tracking is Flight Aware :D

I do it early in the process often when the label is first created to make sure it's marked and I don't have any problems. I feel if you wait until later it might be missed.

I use My Choice a lot btw(often once or twice a week). The CC is right up the street from my gym.

Is there any truth to the claim that you need to be the primary account holder (if on a family plan) to do the CC pickup? I saw an anecdote that someone was unable to pick up an iPhone 7 they had purchased because his wife was the primary account holder, despite sharing the same address.

This is correct to my fullest understanding. The account holder's name is going to be the name on the package, and that is the name that UPS will require to be on the photo ID presented.

Disagree. But YMMV. My fathers name is on the AT&T account which Apple uses to ship our iPhones, my name on my ID of course is different but they usually just check to make sure the last name and address matches and I’m golden. No issues for 6 Plus or 7 Plus for pick up from the UPS CC hub in previous years.

UPS Requires the same name. If someone other than the addressed go to pick it up they need something like a power bill or license to prove they are a resident at the address.

This is first hand knowledge from when I ordered my 8 Plus. They turned away the guy in front of me because it was in his wife name and they had just moved into the new address and hadn't changed his license. He was PISSED off and screaming at the woman from UPS Pickup.

Are iPhones that are delivered put in special packaging? Because I'm not the primary account holder on my family's T-Mobile family plan, but my name is attached to the Apple ID I used, as well as the shipping and billing address used for the order (ie. in any other order, my name should be the one above the delivery address). Does your carrier affect this at all? And finally, if I just let them delivery it to my house, and UPS does require a signature, I would still be allowed to sign for it since they have the guarantee that it reached the delivery address, right (regardless of name on the package)?

Addendum: How would Apple/UPS even get the primary account holder's information? As I'm on T-Mobile and ordered a T-Mobile iPhone, I was not required to input any information that related to my wireless plan. (not trying to poke holes in the argument here, just trying to figure out how this all works as I'd really prefer to have my iPhone held at a customer center for both security and the freedom to not wait several hours after work if the delivery is late in the day, but the primary account holder on my plan is out of the country for several more weeks).

In your case, since you weren't required to put carrier info in, your package would have the same billing information you put in when you purchased your device, just like any other order. Myself, on the other hand, I did AT&T next upgrade through the apple store app, and it pulled my billing information from AT&T in terms of address and name.

Someone posted that there pickup date became 11/6, rather than 11/3. This has me hesitant to change my packages to hold for pickup.

I am curious about this too. Another poster told me no delay if it is held at UPS CC location, not UPS stores etc. Im going to call them tomorrow to be sure.

The key is to have it held at the UPS CC. If you have it sent to another UPS store, that is what causes the delay. Sometimes they can do it the same day, but generally results in an extra business day.

Mine was changed to 11/6 when I clicked hold. Maybe because it is not in UPS possession yet still says “Ready for UPS.”

However main tracking info still shows 11/3 end of day. Hoping I didn’t screw this up. Haha. When I had my 8+ held I picked it up on delivery day

Never held a UPS package for pickup. If going this route, will it be available for pickup Friday morning or is there a wait?

Please let us know if it gets updated for you.

Mine changed to 11/6 after selecting hold for pickup but I'm 100% confident my phone will be there for me on 11/3.

I've never experienced a delay because I've held a package for pickup.

Did you have it held at a UPS Store or a CC hub?

I already set mine up fo the CC hold. But it’s also the distribution center for my normal delivery area. I’m saving them from loading it up on the delivery truck! The last time I did this I went late in afternoon. They said they had a long line when they opened of people coming to pick up their phones.

Funny in my area whenever I’m there in the morning there still are long lines but nobody picking up any phones or new apple products except me
