UPS My Choice - Hold for Will Call

Has anyone used the hold for will call service with UPS in the past for any of their iPhone preorders? It looks like that would be the quickest was to get the phone on Friday morning and I wouldn't have to wait around the house all day for UPS. But on the other hand, I hate to try it out and it screws something up and actually delays my delivery. Can anyone speak from experience on using this service? Thanks.
 
Yeah, I'm wondering if they don't even put it on the truck Friday morning and will be available for pickup around 8:30AM when my UPS Customer Center opens.

Just confirmed the Will Call option via UPS Live Chat:

Gabriel C.: The package is still in transit, scheduled to be delivered 09/19/14 (by End of Day) pending normal customs clearance. The package can be held for pickup starting that day up to 5 business days.

The UPS Center address and hours are:

Sun: Closed
Mon-Fri: 8:30AM - 6:00PM
Sat: 10:00AM - 1:00PM

I just need your phone number to process the request.

StellarZ: So say it gets to the center Thursday night. Will I be able to pick it up Friday morning?

Gabriel C.: Correct, the option is to be able to pick it up on Friday.
 
I just did this through UPS as well. I did it with my iPhone 5 2 years ago, and it worked, though the distribution center didn't think they had the phone when I first went to pick it up that morning. I got a call about an hour later saying my phone was ready to pick up, though, and it was still before the time that UPS would have normally delivered it.
 
Always do it. Love the app, and UPS is very good to deal with. The fact that there primary depot for our area is in the industrial park I work in makes life easy.
 
Live Chat seems to be unavailable right now so I called UPS and as soon as the package is in the system - since its Next Day Air probably Thursday - as long as you have the tracking # you can have it held for pick up Friday morning.

My local UPS facility is about 10 minutes from my house so this is for sure what I will do - in my hands at 0800!
 
I'm a driver at UPS. Make sure you call and put a will call on the package before it gets loaded. If you don't you will not be able to pick it up until late the evening. Sometimes they will get it out of truck, but it depends on the center or building.

If you use ups my choice, via the website, and schedule it for will call the day before, will it be ready the next morning? Is there a possibility it gets delayed until saturday?
 
Just did a live chat with an agent and I got both mine and my wife's iPhones scheduled to be held at the customer center Friday. I can pick them up any time after 8:30. Facility is about 15 minutes away from me. This will be MUCH better than waiting for the driver all day. Sometimes he comes as early as 1:00, but other times it's not until 8:00 in the evening. So glad I learned about the hold for pickup.
 
Be careful, it is held at UPS centers, not your local UPS stores. Mine is a bout 20 minutes away and can be picked up at 8:00AM on Friday. I like this option :)

Here's the difficult part... Mine's being shipped overnight. They cannot do the "Hold for Pickup" option until they have received the item. This means I have to catch them around the time they receive it Thursday before it's too late.
 
Just setup one of mine to be picked up at will call. Now if only the other one would ship already!
 
Also considering this but scared it might mess up the delivery date. My pickup location is less then 10 mins away but the hours are 1230-6pm.

Called the location and they said I would be able to pick it up at 1230 (it's when the open) so I went ahead and changed it. Beats sitting around at home all day waiting for Brown! They usually come late anyways.

just go online
create a My UPS account
select the shipment
fill out the hold package form
go get it on friday

also sign up for mychoice

it will give you email notifications when a shipment to your address is created. Also can see a nice calendar of when packages are scheduled toarrive
 
Check your depot spot, or hub. Some of them are far, and in rush hour traffic could be an awful bear. I'd rather just sit at home and watch TV.
 
I screwed up my "My Choice" account. I signed up for the free version first just to see what's going on, then I figured out that I wouldn't be able to select the 2 hour window with the free account... so I went to the account menu and hit "close account" so I could sign up with the premium. Simple enough, right? I got the email saying my account was closed.

So I go to register and now I'm getting an error that's saying my address is already registered with an account... so now I've lost access to both free AND premium memberships.

You should be fine doing it the day before as long as you have a tracking number. If it gets loaded on the truck though don't expect till late.
 
Yeah will call is a good option. I've used it for other items before that weren't a new release of an Apple product. It's much more convenient for me and probably the company as well. I can go at my own leisure and not have to worry about the doorbell ringing while I'm having a wiz or taking a shower.
 
We usually get UPS deliveries two times during the day. In the AM around 10 and then again in the evening around 6. Would the same truck come twice if someone isn't there in the morning, if it indeed comes during the morning shipment?

My wife may be gone for about 30 minutes to an hour in the morning and trying to figure what I should do.
 
The address on my drivers license doesn't match the address it's shipping to since I moved 5 years ago and haven't bothered to update it. Does anyone know if that would be an issue for will call?

Typically, it hasn't been when I pick stuff up from UPS (never done will call, just hold at depot after failed delivery) and my last name is unique enough they can be pretty damned sure it's me, but not sure if there's extra security with the iPhones.

Was just going to wait at home all day but I need to leave at 5:30 on Friday and I guess there's a chance it won't be delivered by then.

The address doesn't matter.

They just want to verify your face to your name on your drivers license matches the name on the box to ensure you're not stealing someone's packages. My address doesn't match either and I pick up stuff all the time via will call.
