I always see people selling what look like genuine Apple products in the street in New York City . . . mostly AirPodsMax and AirPods. I have no idea whether they look as genuine upon closer scrutiny, but it certainly seems possible that at least some of this stuff is real, and I've wondered about the circumstances which could allow this to happen.

I get an email that delivery was attempted. BS...

I can't believe these delivery companies still have these issues in these modern days.

This is common and not an accident. Often the package shows up a day or two later after the claimed delivery. My guess is the main purpose is to meet performance goals for "on time" delivery when running behind. USPS has done this repeatedly. My biggest problems with UPS is destroying packages and leaving the debris on my porch.

My UPS story…

I had a UPS delivery person would solicit for tips gently reminding me that “if it wasn’t good enough, my package might be accidentally damaged or lost.” Called the UPS supervisor to complain and his response was “Our drivers would never solicit for tips, but they really work hard and deserve to be tipped.”
Geez! I've known the UPS driver at my office for almost 20 years, he has the keys and alarm code to deliver if I'm out and about. When I have a delivery coming, I can set my watch by the guy, and if he isn't here at his normal time, he's early because he had an overnight for one of my neighbors and drops my stuff off while he's here.

Most, if not all, of those items that those street vendors sell counterfeit products.

This is a huge problem in the States as well. FedEx and UPS routinely steal Apple products.
Not just Apple products. I was watching from my door Fedex unload the truck and got a notification the 3 PS5s I ordered were delivered. I ran out to the truck asking for my PS5s and they said we have nothing in the truck for your address. While standing there, I could clearly see 3 Sony labeled boxes on the truck. He saw me looking at the boxes then quickly closed the truck.

OK... that guy is stupid. Stealing stuff and then depositing thousands of dollars in a bank account within a few months. That must have triggered alarms at the bank. And even more stupid... getting an Audi he can't afford in the first place.

Did you eventually get your PS5’s?

A former UPS worker located in Winnipeg, Canada has been accused of stealing Apple products valued at more than $1.3 million, and reselling them for profit.

According to Canada's Global News and the Winnipeg Free Press, UPS worker Orville Beltrano stole approximately 866 Apple devices from the warehouse where he had worked since 2013. Beltrano served as a supervisor at the location, and he was selling the products that he swiped on Kijiji.

Between September 2023 and January 2024, Beltrano deposited more than $232,000 in his bank accounts. He was fired by UPS on January 22, and arrested the same day. In his home and vehicle, investigators found $9,000 in cash, a Mac laptop, and jewelry valued at over $9,000.

Beltrano admitted to stealing Apple products and jewelry from UPS, and said that he used the money to purchase a home worth $680,000 and to pay off a $60,000 Audi hatchback purchased in 2021. He has been charged with theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of the proceeds of crime.

The theft was discovered after UPS launched an investigation in December to determine why so many Apple devices were disappearing from the warehouse in Winnipeg. Surveillance cameras were installed, and Beltrano was found to be stealing products from pallets that were supposed to be shipped to Ontario. He allegedly stole more 120 iPhones in a single shift in January 2024.

Prosecutors have asked the court to approve the seizure of Beltrano's house, cash, bank accounts, and vehicle.

He obviously drank too many Slurpees and had brain freeze. 😀

Unless it’s waved in their employment contract, workers have right to privacy in Canada. They may have security cameras outside but not inside.
And then he ruined it for his coworkers. I'm sure they were unimpressed. The question is whether they now leave the cameras in.

So, what happens to him?

Is he bound to sit his bare A$$ in snow and ice for all eternity?!

People want to know!!!
Well, assuming they keep him in Winnipeg, then he'd only be in snow and ice for half the time, and sweltering heat the other half. Of course that's an exaggeration, as there are usually a couple of temperate days each spring and fall. :(

Can’t Apple see devices that have been stolen and brick them?
They can IF they get activated and connect to cell or WiFi network. Problem is, they either get sold abroad or broken up for parts to sell to unscrupulous repair shops who ask no questions. Each layer makes some
Profits even if it never approaches full retail. That’s why theft is a problem at all levels of the chain.
