NO, here is a list of every MVNO in the USA. I'd say less than 10% of them support E-sim.

yes, 1 SIM card slot + eSIM in Canada
if you look at the tech specs on Apple Canada website, it says
"SIM Card:
- Dual SIM (nano‑SIM and eSIM)
- Dual eSIM support"
Anyone else a lot more curious than usual to see the teardowns for the US model? I want to know what's in the space where the sim tray would otherwise be given that there are going to be other 14s with the slot. Is it simply empty space? If so that will be pretty irritating knowing they got back free space and did nothing with it whatsoever.
The main cohort of people I see this affecting are international travellers.
They're mostly going to need to keep unlocked backup phones. There must be thousands of territories not yet supporting eSIM.
On the one hand the same old Apple removing a 'port' before the market is really ready.

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe in its place will be an extra chip to support the eSIM. But that's doubtful, and I'm obviously clutching at straws.. It's just going to be empty space.

It looks like some of the space used in that area might be used for satellite communications, perhaps as one article states that foreign iPhone 14s satellite SOS will work in US/CA, except those from China, HK and Macau. Those 3 countries use dual sims. (Unless it’s just disabled for some other reason for those 3 countries, like government regulations)
I am one of those people. Frequent traveller with a small travel wallet that has 7-8 physical SIMs from various countries, many of which have close to no eSIM adoption among regular users and no carrier incentives to make that process an easy one.
It takes me less than 30 seconds to replace SIM cards on the fly and I have absolutely no interest in complicating that process for myself by needing to call up carriers, etc. Even if I get the 14, its most certainly not going to be the US model.
You can do that. Just make sure the Canadian models support the bands used by your carrier. More info on https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular
Also keep in mind that if you need your device serviced by Apple and they need to give you another one they will be forced to give you a US model. Otherwise you need to get it serviced in Canada.
I'm more concerned with the fee, since iPhone warranty don't transfer across country. So ultimately they might service it, if the phone just stopped working. But usually it might be free if it's under warranty (bought in the states), but in this case I'm not entirely sure.
Nope. Apple doesn’t care where you got your iPhone. They will always be there to help BUT if the device needs to be swapped during service they will have no choice but to provide the local model in the country you are getting it serviced in.
I hope you’re right. I fear that for more of us, including here in the UK, a SIM tray less iPhone 15 will follow. It’s the only reason I’m even considering upgrading to the 14 Pro Max - buying myself more time, for carriers worldwide to either adopt or, simplify the eSIM conversion/transfer process.
Depends on the carrier & the circumstances. It can be as simple as you say or, a complete nightmare.
Many of us use the dual SIM functionality to maintain an overseas phone number. If your iPhone dies, which can & does happen, it could mean a flight overseas to the carrier’s service centre to resolve this, whereas a physical SIM could have simply been removed.
Nice to know. Does this apply to apple care? Say buy apple care on a phone bought from different country?
Did this a lot. They don’t check the model. All they care about is that it’s within 60 days (if doing online/call center) and passes the on device diagnostics. I don’t know how it works if through the store.
I doubt it but if you really want one that bad Canada isn't far. Also there's an eBay gray market. Don't expect Apple support in the USA for it though. Expect to pay import taxes on it and while it should work in the USA it might not have all the bands and it won't have mmwave 5G
This is a non issue for most people in the USA. I already have my Verizon account on eSIM for my 13 PM and there's an Apple article explaining how to transfer the eSIM to the new phone. I don't even need to call them.
