Other US iPhone 14's - no sim tray!!!

If I don't care about mmWave. Can I to Canada and buy an unlocked iPhone 14 Pro and use it in the States on ATT or on T-mobile? I really want the physical SIM feature because I travel abroad.

mmWave is nothing but marketing. The average 5G speed in the U.S. is 50-150 Mbps, well under the 3.5 Gbps limit for mid-band 5G.

It looks like some of the space used in that area might be used for satellite communications, perhaps as one article states that foreign iPhone 14s satellite SOS will work in US/CA, except those from China, HK and Macau. Those 3 countries use dual sims. (Unless it’s just disabled for some other reason for those 3 countries, like government regulations)

No, Canada has a SIM tray and SOS.

The dual-SIM tray for China/HK is literally just a slightly more expensive slot with more electronics. There have been people who have modded their single-SIM slot to dual-SIM.

Esim is amazingly simple. Just did it on a 12 pro… no need to go into the store anymore. Just provide the phone imei over the phone to the carrier rep, and they send it to you digitally. Plus we got +70~ mah to the battery as a result

Simple enough if you can get a carrier rep without having to wait 30 or 40 minutes. They should make it computerized somehow, do it from their website.

Does switching from a SIM card to an esim, mess up your cellular watch setup? T-mobile had the worst time setting up my cellular watch. I’m afraid to change anything that’s related now.

Anyone knows how it works if my wife's phone is on my IUP, when I go through the pre-order it shows my number associated with the phone, so how will I be able to switch it to her number given there is no physical SIM anymore?

I talked to two AT&T employees today, at the store. They both said if you have a iPhone 13 with a physical SIM card, that when you did the data transfer to the iPhone 14, it will move your service onto the 14 eSIM. They have already witnessed it as they said the last batch of iPhone 13, they received, did not have a SIM tray And the transfer works perfectly.

I know many are hating to loss of the physical SIM but it is what is going to be in the future. It is the first step to control over our phones by big brother. One day our phones will,have to be registered to get on the Internet or make calls. 😫

Not on T-Mobile but I went eSIM then back to physical and back again to eSIM, at least two times and never an issue. In fact I once switched to prepaid then retentions called and gave me a good offer on postpaid so I accepted and the eSIM put itself back on my Watch again.

Last year, the iPhone 13's for AT&T in the US shipped without a physical SIM inside. There's a SIM tray, but it was empty. I didn't have to do anything to convert to eSIM, the phone activated and that was that. I don't see that it will be any different this year. In fact, I suspect that many people with iPhone 13's don't even realize that their SIM tray is empty and they are already on eSIM.

... Or maybe they're trying to move away from an aging system utilized to connect us to a network that can be registered digitally.

As of right now, it will be an inconvenience. I presume in the future when most, if not all, carriers support eSim, it'll be a non issue as we will just hop onto the website of the carrier we want and register a sim within minutes and be active, regardless of what country or carrier one needs service in and with.

If I have an older backup iPhone such as the 7 or 8, will I be able to switch from esim back to sim easily? I like taking my secondary device to festivals and outings where I don't want an expensive (not to mention heavy) iPhone. Not happy about this change.

I am wondering about this as well. I use an old iPhone 7 as a GPS on my motorcycle and it is also my back-up on trips.

It's not as difficult as it seems especially on AT&T. I just went to myatt app and went to bring your own device and it let's you enter the IMEI and then it says activate esim. I'm sure that's all you have to do.

Don't know how US carriers does it but it's really simple for me. I just log in to my carriers website and press a button that I want an esim and it generates a QR code on the screen instantly just scan in with the phone and done. I can also just login to their app and request esim straight to the device and it's done instantaneously.

No you don’t have to do any of this. You can do it all at home and don’t even need to call your carrier. I’ve done it many times before.

so i switched my 13 pro to Esim yesterday, today i wanted to use my 13 pro max unit my 14 comes but so far after chatting with 3 Verizon reps none of them can help me or know wtf I’m talking about…..they tell me I have to go into a store, or its not possible to transfer etc…. Is there any special way to telling these reps what i want ??? I just want to transfer my esim to my other phone … Can’t wait for the night mare next friday

It didn't for me. My Series 3 still works great. A relief considering the issues with my iPhone 11.

Fun fact, the Cellular Apple Watch has had an eSIM since the Series 3.

Well Apple lost me as a customer, I was waiting for iphone 14 pro max, but then i find out NO SIM TRAY. Huge problem if you travel to European countries, every country have their own operators, so basically you need sim tray just to change operator every ~500 miles. Still no clear if international model will have sim tray.

Ignore them. Just use quick transfer/setup on your new iPhone 14 when it arrives and it will handle it all for you. Verizon is one of the US carriers supporting eSIM transfer.

International model (any iPhone sold outside the US) do have a physical SIM card tray. Also most European plans include EU based roaming. My Telekom.de unlimited plan included 68 GB in the EU and Switzerland.
