I tried that for awhile when I didn't have an iPad. If I'm sitting up in bed streaming something on my rMBP, the heat just becomes annoying after about an hour. It's such a great screen to watch movies on though.
My MacBook Pro doesn't get hot when I'm just streaming videos, so I'm good on that front. But even then, I could put something between me and the MacBook if I had to. I find having to hold an iPad for an entire movie uncomfortable.

Well this is no brainier for watching movies, I think the magnificent screen of the rMBP is God sent ! No double thoughts on that !! But if it is just a teaser or a trailer that I am watching I don't mind watching for a minute or two on the iPad lol !
[doublepost=1457371430][/doublepost]What is surprising is most of people have here agreed that perhaps their iPad usage ends up being on the higher side than their rMBP yet no one regrets about having to spent close to $2000 on this device !

Again, even if the laptop is only the right tool for the job 25% of the time, I want the laptop I feel is the best out there. That's why I love my 13" rMBP. I have no qualms about paying for quality. I don't see any point in buying a $300 laptop just to save money, because I don't like spending $300 on garbage. It's like flushing money down the toilet. And every time I open up the lid on that thing and boot it up, I'm so glad I spent the money. It's a gorgeous machine.

Same here. 95% MacBook Air, 5% iPad. After about 4 years, iPad usage is mainly for kids, or sometimes for reading and taking notes. However if I want to be more serious, MBA and iPhone 6 is my preferred combination. iPhone is used for recording and tethering.
90% Macbook Pro, 10% iPad. iPad is for travel where I don't really need a computer (like some simple web surfing) and bed time.

So from what I understand here, people here use their rMBP hardly 15%-25% and yet they buy it over the iPad. Just for a 25% work of hard work creation, editing and modifying work why spend $1200-$2000 then ?
Because that 25% is how some make a living, get school work done, and be the most productive? I can do everything the iPad does on my rMBP, but iPad can't everything my rMBP does. RMBP wins by default.

So why have both then ? Just have the rMBP Simple !

Everything I do on my iPad, I can do on my MacBook Pro, but there are still things I need my MacBook Pro for that I can't do on my iPad.

But my iPad is my preferred device for the things it can do. I'd much rather use my iPad when I can than my MacBook Pro. Better battery life, lighter, more portable, LTE, and it's just more fun to use.

Um, at some point you have to actually read the replies with comprehension if you want to get anything out of the discussion.

I think it's fair to summarize most replies as: MBP for paying work (or equivalently, studies), iPad for play and relaxation and, for some, to make paying work easier. I can't do my job without the MBP. I could easily dispense with the iPad, but I don't want to. I could also dispense with having 4 cordless phones throughout the house and live with a single rotary dial phone in the hallway, but I don't want to do that either...
