Your picture saved me. First was told they don't have any (lie) then the rep went to the back and came back and said he was told they don't have them yet. Then I asked if they could check with a manager the manager said they haven't had them since lunch. So I showed a copy of your receipt. They went back again and what do you know they found them. Finally got it!!! Yay

Thank you to both freddy418 & shenan1982. I have been hunting these down too and every store I went to as well also gave me the same immediate response about how they don't have any inventory in stock, every time. I also went to multiple stores and was about to give up. Tried the ship to store method 2 weeks ago (and last week as well) and have been waiting ever since (3-4 days later, still no adapter)... it still says it will ship at the end of May. Immediately after reading shenan1982's post, I too, headed over to Oakridge Mall, and immediately showed them freddy418's receipt image from yesterday. Immediately the rep told me that they don't have any and I have to order it online, 2-3 weeks waiting. I told him that the transaction/receipt was from yesterday and insisted he check the back. He said "Ok, well, I'll try, but I know for sure we don't have any". Not even 2 minutes later, he says "well, I guess we do have them!" and immediately rung me up with another person. I asked the other person why they don't put them out in stock, and why they aren't out on display. Her response was "I don't know. But I will tell you that every time we put them out, they are gone immediately".

So, for those still on the hunt, use the receipt image provided by freddy418 above (you can use mine from today too), and they will bring them out. They are deliberately hiding them from customers (at least in all the stores I went to), for whatever reason.

Congratulations! I'm still waiting for the VGA one to be put on display.

Went to Apple Store in Bath UK today and managed to get all the adapters. No stock at all on MacBook and no idea when they will get any. Said only flagship stores getting stock first. Adaptors not on display but asked an assistant as was paying for AppleCare on my watch and they have all the adaptors at back of store.

Went into my local store yesterday and didn't see any so I asked and they had plenty on hand. Walked out in 5 minutes with one. As others have said, they are not on the shelves since they don't have MacBooks to sell.

They have MacBooks to sell too, they just don't list those in stock via their website either. My dad bought one yesterday while at the Novi store in Michigan and they sold 2 other ones while he was there (they sold the last SG model before his rep could get it).

I've seen another poster say he walked in to an Apple store and picked one up as well. Seems to be just like Best Buy - website says none in store while the reality is it is hit or miss but you need to go in person.

Yes, I agree. They will almost never actually go to the back. The just load up their own website to check. The whole inventory of these items is lacking and disappointing from Apple.

When I picked up my adapter, the guy checked on his handheld and saw they had inventory. I don't know what he used but it wasn't the website since the website said ship to store only.

This. You need someone who will actually check the stock in "their" inventory, not using online. The stock is so limited that it never hits the online store.

I'm pretty forgiving of retail workers, having been one myself, but that's just sad.

The problem is they're not idiots. Often they're just lazy. Instead of saying "let me check" they resort to the standard "if it's not on the peg, we don't have it in stock" ... I can't tell you how many times I've called Best Buy where this has happened, but Apple is usually pretty good about checking.

I'm concerned that Apple is shifting the way they run retail, and the way they hire for retail. I've seen more and more employees pull Samsung phones out of their back pockets than ever before. I've run into more employees who just aren't connected with the brand than ever before. Apple retail used to be fun to interact with because you had geeks, know-it-alls (in a positive sense), fanboys (in a good way), and people who just really were into Apple. Now it seems like their hiring demographic is people who just want a retail job, and it seems like you can go in after a month and everyone is new and the old are gone.

I hope this observation isn't reality, and I hope it's not the direction Apple retail is going.

I haven't tried any of them, but out of the gate there's a problem with that solution. HDMI is video and audio. VGA is video only. So once you plug something into the HDMI port the Mac should want to set HDMI as the sound output. Which if you've plugged in a VGA adapter means you have no sound until you manually change the sound output back to the laptop speakers or a headphone output.

3rd party adapters can be pretty sketchy. So then if you pony up for a good quality one, you're within a few bucks of the Apple adapter, which will work seamlessly.

I'd love to know if anyone gets a good 3rd party solution going for this. But for my money, to avoid the hassle, I'm likely going to wait for the VGA adapter. My local Apple Store claims they had 1 or 2 come in which sold immediately.

Thing is I've tried the Kanex HDMI to VGA on my MacBook Pro Retina HDMI port and it worked! But it's very weird that it only worked on my Mac and never worked on my Dell's HDMI port (!). I don't know why.

For my work, sometimes I need to hook up my laptop to office's projector for like 1-2 hours max (for meeting purpose). So the battery drain is not a problem for me. Also I only need video signal, not audio.
I think the purpose of buying the VGA adapter nowadays mostly for using with projector (at least that's the situation where I live and work), so audio signal is not a big deal.

Still very curious if anyone had successfully use a HDMI-VGA adapter with the USB-C AV adapter from Apple :)

Can anyone who has the USB-C the VGA multiport from Apple tell me:

Does it definitely just offer screen mirroring of the built-in display at 1080p, or does it support a true second monitor in addition to built-in? The description just says mirroring, but the HDMI version also originally just stated mirroring, and they updated that description and people have confirmed it supports secondary monitor. I'm hoping the VGA does the same, but don't have my hopes up...

Can't confirm at 1080p as the monitor I am using at my desk is only 1600 x 900 but it supports that monitor as a secondary display just fine.
