Proximity Issues 3G and 4

Thought I was nuts replacing my iPhone 3G multiple times because of proximity issues just like those described in recent threads. The 4 seems to be doing it too. Trying the recommended reset now. Will advise if it helped. MD

Hahahah omg I cannot stop laughing at this, GOLD!!! :D

So....

So I did the reset thing and it fixed the problem for a day, but eventually it came back. I'm sending my phone now back to Apple. If they send me a broken phone again, then I will be downgrading to the 3GS. I'm very upset.

Since I upgraded to 4.0, I've been having serious sensor issues on my old iPhone 3G. I'll be holding the phone to my face and it will suddenly go to speakerphone, etc.

It might be a software issue, therefore.

I'm very happy to see this. I'd say this confirms it's software. I'm going to wait for an update before taking mine in.

My 3GS wasn't a big fan of iOS4 either. But having the white iPhone4 delayed for manufacturing issues doesn't give me hope that it's just a software problem. I hope I'm wrong, though.

un-sensored.

Just got off the phone with :apple:care. I have an issue with the sensor not engaging properly so I end up muting, speakering, facetiming...with my ear. Damn annoying I must say.

The rep told me they need to capture the phone. Fully admitting to a defect with the sensor. I now need to return the phone and pick up a new one at the :apple:store. They made the appointment for me and everything. Going after work today. Hope this helps?

If you have the issue call :apple:. This is only going to be easy if you're still inside the 30 day from purchase timeframe. After that you may have to settle for a refurb.

So they are saying it's a hardware problem, not software?

So are you NOT allowed to exchange your iPhone for another one after your first 30 days even if you're still having problem with the proximity sensor?

The device comes with a one year warranty. So, yes, if you are having issues, you can have it replaced or repaired.

Mine has the issue. I put the phone between my shoulder and mug and it either put the mute button on, or it hung up the phone. Looking at the phone showed a black screen. I just tried the reset and will see tomorrow if it fixed the proximity sensor. One thing a reset did fix was gaining sound output from my iStooges app. Made my day.

Put me down for this on both mine and my wife's. If I put my phone on my shoulder and try to talk to anyone, forget it. Mute, hangup, dialing digits, it's completely unusable. Never had this problem with my 2G.

So, if I'm understanding this right, it's only on some phones? Should I return them for a new ones? Forget the antenna, this is my #1 problem with this phone.

Second 4

I am on my second iPhone 4. I am still haveing some sensor issues. Getting it exchanged was easy. I called Apple Care. They made an appointment for me at the store. I went in and exchanged it. The new phone I got was in a hard black plastic case, which I didn't get to keep. It could have been refurbished, but was probably new. I really think they do have some major issues this time around. Still a great device, but man, to many issues.

plastic cover vs film cover

I went to the apple store as I was having the same problem... really affecting most calls except when holding in a very specific manner.
They asked if i was using a film cover.. they claim this is an issue. I removed mine and so far so good

Jesus, one gets the feeling Apple really rushed the iPhone 4 out of China's factory without any proper testing.

Why should the iPhone be any different than any other product they rushed out without testing, per their obvious corporate policy of forgoing adequate testing?

If they foisted a ton of four and five digit mac pros out with stinky smelly glue once it got hot, why would they even remotely care about phones that cost a tenth of that amount?

Apple has consistently misused their early adopters, both hardware and software, as free unpaid beta testers, and it's finally caught up with them and taken a huge chunk out of their ass.

About time.
