For the first time ever I’m leaning more into android 12 but I’m deep in the apple eco system so I’m screwed I’m just unhappy with how apple is doing things recently, they just don’t have the wow factor anymore

52.6 vs 47.4

Amongst a group of people who will on average know very little about the upcoming OSes

It's hardly a landslide.
I think that market is more important to survey. They outnumber us by a wide margin, so if THEY'RE not excited by something, statistically, nobody is. I'm stoked about Focus on my devices, but I'm a guy working on a Mac with an iPhone and iPad on my desk and a Watch on my wrist. I can get enthusiastic about small optimization details. Patch notes day is my favourite day.

So if none of the user-facing features is really compelling to users, that's a bit of a problem.

On the other hand, Apple will give them the OS no matter what, and it'll be an upgrade regardless of whether they care much or not, so it's a question of whether or not it changes purchasing decisions, and I think the answer is almost certainly no. It's not like Android rolled out a bunch of must-have features this year either.

Would never use this gimmick I don’t need to be told what apps I need lol, all my apps are on one page and never changed it’s in folders I don’t wanna ruin the homepage, I dont need focus it’s another thing I would switch off, maybe give us split screen or something that we would want
I plan to use this feature a lot. Right now I'm manually quitting a bunch of apps on my Mac while I'm doing work but I continue to get notifications from things that I don't want on my phone and iPad. I can't just mute my phone because some of the notifications are actually work related. There are several apps that create this feature on the Mac, but they don't sync across devices.

So it's not a gimmick, it's a legitimately useful feature for some of us. You don't need to use it, of course, but I expect that I'll be using it full time as soon as it's available to me.

It already drives me nuts seeing previously shared links in the attachment section on iMessage. I can’t imagine having much use for a „For You“ section on multiple touch points across iOS.

i watched the keynote and I kept thinking „has anyone actually asked for this?“ what is the use case? Why would I change my whole work flow to even bother getting used to how some things work now? Am I OLD?!

i am really surprised they are not pushing the limits on iOS iPadOS. I remember back in the day you would update your iPhone to get the latest and greatest features. Now I am more like the iPhone is pretty much the same each year, just slightly faster, which you won’t notice cuz at the end of the day you just end up using the exact same apps on your exact same Home Screen again

I think these people forgot to watch the video below.

Too early to make any judgements. Apple introduced well over 500+ changes this year come on now. Just look at the new weather and map App!

I remotely care about new weather app and I really never use Apple Map!

Apple should really use its time wisely. Where is split screen multitasking on iPhone? Where is new Home Screen? The new notification system is still a mess/

Who cares about animation on weather app? How frequent does Apple update its maps data? Because there are few new roads around my neighborhood aren’t showing up on Apple Map! I was literally being taken to somewhere no where only found out the destination is few block away!

I’d love to see the ability to resize app windows to anywhere for any size windows for better multitasking. It’s gotten better but there is room for improvement.

More pro apps too would be greatly appreciated and I would love the ability to connect a mirrorless camera to the iPad Pro directly for streaming via external video USB C capture card. The M1 and the Previous iPad Pros have so much potential.

I'm annoyed that the 'shared with you' feature is linked to specific apps. One of the things I like about telegram is how easy it is to get to all the stuff you've shared with someone you're messaging. Just give me a visible, non-hidden button to get to that stuff, Apple. Your stupid hidden, tiny menu under the person's avatar is terrible.

All these brains at Apple and they still don't seem to get it.

As to their iphones, I would like to see Apple

1. redesign the notification center. It's ridiculous.

2. give us an LED visual for notifications in addition to sound and vibration. Allow us the change the colors of the LED based on what the notification app is.
The fine folks who like things the way they are can just turn any or all of this off and be constantly hitting the screen on their phones to see if there are any messages when the phone is on mute, much like we all have to do all day long the way it current is.

3. give us an always-on screen for the clock. On the always-on screen we should also be able to choose if we want to see if we have any notifications (the amount and the app) or if we to just want see the clock.
Once again, the people who don't like it should be able to turn it off. No more Apple forcing us to do stuff.

4. add haptic feedback to the keyboard, and make it possible to customize different intensities to your heart's content.
It's beyond crazy that you have no feedback whatsoever if you're typing and the phone is on mute. Those who are concerned with battery or simply don't like this should be able to turn it off.

5. make it possible to adjust volume for independent apps and settings and not this general thing they're doing. Separate volume control for keyboard volume, music volume, ring volume, system volume.
I, for example, would like the keyboard clicks to be much louder than they are but without it affecting the volume on the entire phone or the ring and notifications volume. It's silly of Apple to force it to be like this.

6. add suggestions from the address book as you start a phone number.
Common now Apple, this has been available for the last 15 years on Android.

7. make it possible to customize the texting app in every conceivable way. Font size, bubble size shape color etc.

8. make it possible to schedule a text message to be sent at a certain time/date. This is a basic feature. Compose your message now and schedule it to be sent when the time is right. I used to use this feature all the time when I had to text people who are in different time zones when they have to get the text at a certain time in their time zone but it's way too late for me to stay up to send the text.

9. use an OS-wide clipboard and make cut and/or copy not expire until you, the user, cleans it.
You should be able to copy text now and paste it tomorrow if you want to.
And 9b make it possible to copy multiple copy entries ready to paste any one of them by long pressing, at least the last 10 cut/copies should be possible.

10. in Mail give us the option to NOT go to the next email when you are deleting an email but to go back to the inbox. Those who want to keep things the way it is should be able to turn this feature off.

11. make it possible to move the icons on the desktop anywhere you want to.

iPad still waiting for a calculator after all...
This has been solved already by the community….why apple won’t do this is beyond baffling.

"excited" isn't a great metric for an OS update.

You can only be excited by big features. But you can still be "impressed" by performance, stability and usability.

Personally, I'd take that over "exciting" any day … Let's see if we'll get it.

I think that's fair, but I also am not expecting a whole lot of advancements at this point. I had thought iPadOS would take a bigger step forward this year, but I have accepted that Apple seems to be pretty set on keeping its capabilities firmly behind macOS. It's a bummer, but I get it from a business sense, and I can't get mad at that.

I think most people don’t appreciate what Shared With You can potentially become. It could end up being an alternative to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. If you consider the photos, news, music you currently share with others, that’s a big chunk of your social media usage. All Apple have to do is add a “Shared With You” app and you have an ad free social media killer on your hands. Burying it inside the dedicated apps for now dips the toes in the waters.

With the introduction of M1 ipads expectations were too high, contributing to a feeling of disappointment. Granted, apple never said “final cut and logic incoming!”, but then again, they kind of made a big deal of a desktop chip being in their tablets.
