Exactly.

SmartThings has been updated with the "new" widget... and it looks similar to the old widget. And it sorta functions the same.

BUT... it also opens the app every time I perform an action in the widget.

Why?

The whole reason we have widgets is so we don't need to open apps.

Apple has lost the point of widgets.
its mad 2 years and widgets are the same

A lot of people forget a new iOS update doesn’t always have it’s features obvious from the start.
Many changes are to the iOS SDK with improved and new API for developers.

As a developer I’m really excited for the updated SDK, to name a few:
  • Structured concurrency
  • MusicKit
  • New UIKit buttons!
  • Enhanced localisation support
  • CollectionView list enhancements
  • In-app purchase flow enhancements
  • iCloud Keychain verification codes
  • Matter support
That’s just to name a few. The backend of iOS strengthens every year with amazing improvements for developers.

It may take a couple of years to see these being implemented en masse, but the insight you get watching the WWDC session videos really show what’s new and where Apple are heading.

It’s exciting!

The thing is, there wasn’t all that much in iOS14 to get excited about. Apple’s big idea there was the App Library, which was horribly executed and met with very mixed reactions, and I honestly can’t think of a single other feature that I cared about. iOS 15 does not seem much of an advance from there, from what has been revealed thus far it’s hardly a new OS but more of an update, so it just feels like nothing on top of nothing, more arbitrary tools, more complexity, less utility and less control. There’s something desperate about Apple’s quest to remain relevant, not so much an innovator as a clumsy corporate follower.

I’d love to see the actual questions they asked and know a little more about the people they asked them to. I’m guessing most of the respondents know very little about tech and that an even smaller percentage have used the beta. To be fair, I’ve been using the beta and I don’t find it to be a particularly exciting update, but still, these surveys are usually worthless IMO.

This is update is a dud in many ways. I would not likely use any of the features and it seems that a lot of the updates are COVID inspired it seems. A lot of sharing, FaceTime trying to compete with Zoom and Teams video features, and features to keep people connected while being distant. Well except for the Safari overhaul. I'll be updating of course as I always do.

Well, we've reached the pinnacle of mobile phones a few years ago. These year-over-year abysmal hardware and software upgrades are cringeworthy. It's no surprise that people are keeping their phones for well over 3+ years nowadays.

You can’t please everyone. I like the new additions to messages like the photo stacks, maps, as well as the on device Siri app. Change an OS too much and you are going to cause an internet meltdown. I would also love MacOS on iPad but I don’t think that will happen anytime soon or at all.

when people like max tech are angry and returning it you know apple screwed up

Watched the video. 17 minutes of him whining bout how he bought the topend model of something that would still been overkill at base spec in the hope that features noone promised (and noone with any sense really expected) would just materialize a few weeks later.

Sure he makes some good points, and sure some of their videos are really great but this for sure pure clickbait (which I guess is something you have to do trying to make a living of youtube in when there just isn't anything interesting to report).

Widgets on springboard was a much bigger deal than App Library.

Just my opinion, but Apple has locked themselves into this update cycle and now they are stuck. A full X.0 release every year is not as sustainable as it once was. How much more can they do beyond tweaks at this point? And then there is the problem with creating change for the sake of change.

iPadOS is a snoozefest, macOS has been already there for at least over a decade, with better ergonomics, ultimately thinner devices, more efficient productivity, input capabilities, hardware diversity & integration (even though Tim really tried to cripple it 2016-2019 era) and the elephant in the room, a real OS.

If you enjoy your office charade sending emails while swiping your kid's pics on a tablet, it's totally fine, but the pro hype has been hilarious since day one.

I'm not particularly interested in ios 15 and ipadOS 15 because, broadly speaking, 14 already does everything I need and I've found totally effective workarounds already for the few things it doesn't do well. ios is a very mature product, we're on the 15th year... how much polish can there still be? Changes to any of those stock apps that have already been left behind such as imessage and facetime are kinda irrelevant these days, we've found other ways to do what we want to do. The rest works so well that theres nothing really to be changed, except for the sake of it.

Over 50 percent of all of the survey's respondents said that the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 updates are only "slightly" or "not at all" exciting. 28.1 percent rated the updates "somewhat" exciting, but as few as 19.3 percent are "extremely" or "very" excited about them.

I'm sure those 28.1 and 19.3 percents were males.

I'd like to see Apple focus more on improving the modals. For example, the volume control on a locked screen -- you literally need to fine-point your finger to operate it. I think they forget that these are human interfaces -- their UI becomes more tedious, as they attempt to cram as much as they can into it. Time for fresh design strategy and UX improvement.

Plenty of people use their iPad as their main machine. Not people who need laptops. That isn't changing anytime in the near future.

Maybe. I have tried to use my iPad Pro as main machine for little over a week. It is week of pain and suffering, resorting to MacBook Air.

To start, printing functions is severely limited by iPad. Once i need to print documents that not fit on standard letter size paper. I cannot print, because it will automatically choose paper size for me! I need ability to manually set paper size!

Second: I tried to import some footage from my action camera by using USBC cable. iPad’s slow transfer speed is annoying and it constantly disconnects.

Third: I have to constantly switch application between. God, I miss resizable Windows and joy of true multitasking.

There are few more annoyances with iPad. It is like Apple intentionally limit iPad’s capabilities and purposefully set iPad as secondary devices for Mac. Like how you can use iPad as second screen? Or use Mac keyboard and mouse? Why would I use iPad as second screen when I can buy better and larger monitor for cheaper?

I believe most users don't have enough information to make that determination. And what is going to happen between now and September can change dramatically.

Apple would do well to ignore this. (as if they were to treat it seriously anyway, imo)

all I wanted was a split screen function and widgets t be interactive like instead of opening apps you can use the app in the widget that would be a game changer it cant be that hard
