Iphone5 Bricked by Apple while using iOS7 *NEED HELP*

Hello all, I have been looking around these forums for awhile and just decided to join now. I figured I would let you all know what happened to me last night while at work, maybe it happened to some others as well?

I was at work and out of no where I went to go check my phone and I saw the apple logo pop up (iOS7 was really glitchy with this in there beta1) and it would just show the apple logo for about 7 seconds then just go back to the lock screen. But that didn't happen tonight, I saw the apple logo and immediately thought "this can't be good" sure enough, it wasn't turns out my phone got "bricked" or whatever the real name is called, but it basically restarted itself and came back with my lock screen and a white bar across saying "activation required" since I was at work I had no open WiFi to use, so there was an option to "activate your phone using cellular data". I got prompted with a message that didn't leave a good feeling in my stomach. Basically said something like this "This iPhone is not a registered developer device, if you have a developer please register your iPhone at developer.apple.com/iPhone, and the other option was the same thing but using WiFi.

So at this point I knew I was screwed and just waited until I got home. I had a couple options in my mind that I thought would work. I thought either A. Try using WiFi (didn't work, got the same error message) B. Search youtube on how to de-brick an iphone5 or C. just take it too Verizon. Luckily I found a video about plugging the iPhone into iTunes then putting it in DFU mode (which I was doing a lot at work but just wasn't working or doing anything :( ) and then continue to hold the home button until iTunes forces the phone into restore mode, which it did. Now here is where I need help from you guys if possible.

After it forcing me to update back to iOS 6.1.4 I got the "Welcome to iPhone" screen went through everything and was praying I didn't lose everything. I got too the iCloud back up page and it was only showing a backup from July. Which didn't make any sense to me considering I have been backing my phone up every time I charged it. So I was forced to choose an update from July (which I think was the last official back up I did before going onto the iOS7 software. So it finishes up and of course I get all old stuff but on iTunes it recognizes my latest back up which was yesterday, but when I press "restore from back up" it doesn't show it at all.

Is it possible that iTunes never logged any of my back up's while on iOS7 and the most recent back up its remembering is the one right before I went onto iOS7? The weird thing is it remembered some new contacts I put in my phone while on iOS7 and notes that I added and some apps (not all). But of course the two most important things I could not get back, Pictures and text messages.

Would it be worth it too go to Verizon and see if they can help me? Trying not to mention I was on iOS7 I think they will be able to see what software I was running and just know right away and not give me any help.

If you made it this far please respond with something to at least help me. I lost a lot of awesome pictures that I would love to have back and text messages that involve business that I need.

Thanks for reading and hopefully when iOS7 gets released to the public in two weeks iTunes will recognize my back up's or something.

if i were u, id put it in recovery mode, restore to 6.1.4, option+click update to ios 7 beta 6 again if that will work, (u need the ispw) and then restore from backup AFTER updating.

Are you 100% sure that is was successfully backing up to iCloud? Because if your storage was full "The standard 5GB", it wouldn't let you back up anymore, until you free up some space or upgrade your storage options.

Do you have your Photo Stream turned on by any chance? It should save some of your photos.

Edit: You have to somehow go back to iOS 7 Beta 6 in order to restore from your iOS 7 backup, that is, if it still exists. After you complete the restore, you can easily transfer all your files to a computer and then go back to 6.1.4.

BTW, are you a registered Dev? :) And so what beta were you running at that time? Because beta 3 expires today.

after that if ure worried, again option+click update to ios 6.1.4 (u need the file again)... then do a backup, and u will have an up to date 6.1.4 backup. then go back to ios 7

out of interest what beta were u running?
becos betas 1,2,3 have expired.

If you have iOS 7 beta 3, this is "normal". Beta 3 expired today.

A beta is intended to be used on test devices. Where a developer can test their apps if they are still working properly. And they can play around with the new features in the SW to prepare apps for future release. It is not intended to be used on a Phone for normal and daily usage.

They don't like the Slide to unlock arrow (and other changes), that's why they're still on Beta 3.

Or they do not want to go to beta 5 because on some devices the control center and other things changed badly. see b5 and b6 on the left, b1-4 on the right. ;)

So yes, there is a moral justification. And they maybe don't have to learn.

That's just dumb, they going to have to update anyway. Why not get it over with?

Getting super attached to any beta (especially #3 of 6) is just ridiculously dumb. "Oh, I just don't like the way the slide to unlock works so damn it I'm just gonna stay on beta 3 until Apple changes it to the way I want it!"

Have seen hundreds of tweets very recently on twitter where phones without registered UDIDs are all the sudden being bricked... This unusual? Does it mean something?

It means that they're running a beta that just expired.
Nothing at all to do with unregistered UDUDs.
Can someone please change the tile of this thread to reflect reality?

You got a source with that? I know several people that were running beta 6 that got bricked.

Yes, it has been noted since beta 3 was released that today was the expiration date for that beta.

Are you sure these people don't just think they were on beta 6? If so, they likely restored to iOS 7 rather than updated.

Either way, it's not a coincidence that many people are finding themselves locked out of their phones on the day that beta 3 expires.

I'm actually not even sure what happens when a beta expires.

Well once I got bored whilst running a beta and set my date to something like the year 3001, and when I pressed okay a message popped up saying "This beta expired XXXXXX weeks ago, please update to the latest version". Then when I pressed okay the phone just turned off.

So yeah... thats what happens :D

Except you just plug it into iTunes and restore to another ISPW...hardly a brick.

^^THIS^^

Stop using the word "brick" when it is not true.

And Apple is not actively deactivating non-registered users. People need to stop spreading FUD.

The most likely explanation is an expired beta.

Where's your source? You "KNOW" or you just read on Twitter? Have them come post in this forum and show us.

When a beta expires, does it at least let you go to software update to update? Or do you now have to restore the phone with iTunes?

If it doesn't let you go to software update, that's pretty damn thickheaded of Apple.

Phones usually doesn't brick. Only times you get bricked phone is hardware failure OR if you installed wrong firmware. For example: if i were to flash my Android phone, which is Nexus 4 and i accidently flashed with wrong ROM (for example, flashed Nexus 7 ROM to my Nexus 4, then it will likely get bricked).

AND none of my iOS 7 devices gets blocked by Apple, All of them runing iOS 7 without UDID. Yeah... I never pay for software.

YESS!!!! I'm so happy if this is true.

It's probably just an old beta expiring though

Why would apple just now be enforcing it? And I was meaning if it was normal for them to do this, this late in the beta cycle?

Not bricked. Whether this is true (I doubt it) or not, the phone isn't bricked.

That being said, when a beta expires the phone is disabled until you restore. Not bricked, disabled. Make sure you stay up on your betas and things should be okay.
