I know it's not true, but one can hope. I would find it hilarious watching all the kids have to revert to iOS6 and realize they can't restore backups

They have a special name for people who find enjoyment in other's pain.

It's funny you call them kids because I find your attitude to be a childish one.

Have seen hundreds of tweets very recently on twitter where phones without registered UDIDs are all the sudden being bricked... This unusual? Does it mean something?

This is one of the stupidest things I've seen posted.

No, no devices are getting "bricked".

If you were dumb enough to install a developer-only release of iOS on your device and find it doesn't work, you simply install an official release of iOS.

Or they do not want to go to beta 5 because on some devices the control center and other things changed badly. see b5 and b6 on the left, b1-4 on the right. ;)

So yes, there is a moral justification. And they maybe don't have to learn.
Whatever justification might or might not be there it doesn't change the fact that betas expire and you get a useless device by sticking to something that is essentially no longer in existence no matter how much justification there might be for it.

@Threadstarter

Multiple threads on this BEFORE you started an extra one.

Guess that goes hand in hand with your phone being disabled due to using expired beta release.
Clearly looking around the forums for a while before posting an overly long thread means completely missing at least a few threads on the very topic that were just posted right before this one.

Agreed - just a 10 second browse of Page 1 would have (should have) been enough to save him from typing a term paper length initial post

Listen, I know we're not all developers out here and some even have the beta software "illegally"... I used quotes because Apple will never do anything about it. Anyway, BEFORE I installed the beta software I read all the caveats, all the warnings, and several threads on this forum about using beta software and the one thing I distinctly remember was that betas have expiration dates and that you should keep up with the various updates.

If you, or anybody, installed the beta and are having problems because you didn't keep up with the updates then whatever happens is your fault. No one is really taking pleasure in your misery, but if having a functional phone means ANYTHING to you, don't install the beta without knowing full well what can happen.

Well said.

Exactly. I put the expiry date in my calendar. If you didn't bother to do your homework before downloading the IPSW....it's on you.

If you have iOS 7 beta 3, this is "normal". Beta 3 expired today.

yeah I think I was on beta 3. It was weird that it was telling me there was a software update but then whenever I would go too settings>general>software update it would just tell me my software is up to date. So it was like I was stuck on beta3

Sorry for the long post guys.

Sorry for the long post guys.

Where is that picture of Picard looking disgusted when you need it? And why does my palm keep hitting my face?

after that if ure worried, again option+click update to ios 6.1.4 (u need the file again)... then do a backup, and u will have an up to date 6.1.4 backup. then go back to ios 7

----------

out of interest what beta were u running?
becos betas 1,2,3 have expired.

Updating to iOS 6 from iOS 7 does not work most times and causes your iPhone to go into recovery mode.

I know this because it happened to me recently.

----------

When a beta expires, does it at least let you go to software update to update? Or do you now have to restore the phone with iTunes?

If it doesn't let you go to software update, that's pretty damn thickheaded of Apple.

Restore only. The way it's always been with expired betas.

When I go to check for updates , my phone says I can't because I'm not connected to the internet ... Even when I'm connected to the internet.. Does anyone know why this is happening ?

This happened to my friends iPhone 5 yesterday, he was on beta 2 or 3, im not sure exactly. It wouldn't activate. We just connected it to itunes and did a shift+click to update to beta 6. Worked fine.

That doesn't stop you from getting beta 4 though...
