This is why I keep a 7" tablet on the headboard for night use.

You can even hold one in your hand for hours, no propping up needed.

This. The case for a smaller/lighter iPad.

----------

This thread represents the sheer laziness and stupidity of the human population. We are doomed if people actually spend time not being able to hold their iPad in bed. Jesus.

It gets heavy after a while...

The black bits are made of foam so grip against your bedding (or clothes) but can come off if you want to just use it as a A-frame.
Has anybody here actually fell asleep and damaged there iPad? I have been using mine (just propped up on my chest) and started to dose off. As my hand holding the pad started to relax it whacked me in the head and woke me up! No damage though, but I bet somebody has not been so lucky.

I usually lay on my side so I lock the orientation and turn the iPad sideways then I just hold it up. I have case with a kickstand so I use that to.

I have a leather case with a 23 position stand. Its fantastic for watnching movies etc on the ipad. I had one for my ipad 1 and 2 and now for my 3. Its the roo convertible case -- $25 @ amazon. Plus its very protective and good looking.

Take a look at this: Belkin ViewLounge

I use it on a pillow on my lap while sitting in the couch. I would say I rarely hold the iPad, unless it's a game that demands it. The ViewLounge works in either portrait or landscape, and with either the iPad 2 or 3rd gen (also works with 1st gen, though a slightly snugger fit). It should also be stable enough to use while in bed, either on a pillow or the bed itself.

Nope. One of the reasons why I sold my iPad.
I don't even know what to say to that......
After just being smashed in the lip (hard) by this ****ing iPad 2 after trying to prop it up with a pillow, I have to ask - is there any semi comfy/easy to use method whilst in bed?
Hold it in your hand? Smart cover in movie stand, on chest with one hand supporting the iPad
Thanks :)

Cool! Thx for sharing!

Just my opinion but... Don't use the iPad in bed. Or at least not too much. It's incredibly disruptive for your sleep pattern. I used to take it with me to bed every evening and end up watching cat videos all night.

I don't think taking the ipad to bed with you is your only problem. :)

I use my Targus versavue case with the strap strapped to the bezel of the iPad and prop it up either in portrait or landscape mode, leaning against the bed side or pillow.

i use the Pyle stand

In bed this works for me (Ipad 3) ; ~ $40 on Amazon. BTW- it does come with the new robust rubber mounts (four corners). It is a floor stand- so if you move in bed, the IPAD doesnt move with you. The Ipad can swivel vert or horiz. The bracket that holds the ipad is metal not plastic . the Ipad slides or wedges into four rubber corners that slide fit onto the metal bracket corners. good fit. the earphone and 30 pin jack are accessible, rear camera is not. Enjoy. i wish the three legs were a little heavier - i might fillup some sand bags to weigh them down :)

3 corners of my iPad 2 has been damage because of felling asleep. :( And my body's feedback is not as quick as you!
A good protective case or stand is a must-have accessory in bed use.

Wow... I bet your love life is great with this in the bedroom

Before getting my ZAGGfolio I used to prop my iPad up against my husband's pillow when using it in bed. Now the ZAGGfolio keeps my iPad in a perfectly useable position whether sitting up or laying down.

Funny, I dropped mine on my lip too. Just a little bit of blood. I fold smart cover into movie position too.

Dropped mine on my forehead. First thought was "hope I haven't damaged my iPad!". Didn't notice until going to the toilet 10 minutes later I was bleeding from the forehead cut.

TL;DR: Apple physically assaulted me.

I just prop myself up with pillows as if I were reading a book.

+1. The STM Skinny is easy to prop correctly for use in bed.

I wouldn't say it is easy, I am using mine now in stand mode. It is just next to me, I am using the dictation. I wouldn't say it is hard though either.
