I used to work for a cellphone shop. Water resistant is so far removed from waterproof. I had so many angry people over denied warranty with water damaged devices that were sold as water resistant.

If it accidentally gets a little splash, you'll probably be okay but to risk it intentionally? Hope you've got insurance!

Part of the problem is ignorance with some who don't understand the differences between water resistant and waterproof, which is even prevalent On some
Of these threads. Too many times people interchange the two words and they think their phones are waterproof to the point where they even test them in submerged in water, when they are in fact water resistant.

That's great that your first Generation Watch has made you thus far with water exposure, but by no means is it even close being rated to water proof, when the Series 1/Series 2 is only rated for 50 meters Water resistant.
I know it's not officially rated as waterproof/resistant. I meant in actual real world use it definitely seems to be.

Tim Cook stated he showers with his first Generation on, for him to say that, he obviously is comfortable with it.

Even though it's got the feature to be water resistant, as long as water damage isn't covered by warranty, that means it's not worth risking it.
Water damage will _never_ be covered by warranty. If water resistance is improved, the result will be fewer water damaged phones, but the ones that are damaged won't be covered.

Of course there are people who need to test where the limits are, and eventually they will exceed the limit - it doesn't matter _how_ water resistant the phone is, it will be damaged by that person, and it won't be covered by warranty.

I suppose he can afford to buy a new one if it gets water damaged. It _may_ be that he is an official water-resistance tester and when his watch breaks they give him a new one for further tests :)

Put put some water on my phone to clean it and front speaker has never been the same, then I did it again and I cant barley hear calls now **** me

That's exactly my point. If it's obviously not covered, you should be ready to have and pay for insurance or AppleCare+ if you decide to take an unwarranted risk.

No, looks like you need to work more on not getting your phone wet:)

I agree the responsibility ultimately lies with the owner, but Apple should not be advertising the phone as water resistant if it doesn't function as usual if exposed to splashes/rain etc. because they don't promise it is by way of warranty, it might be legal, but it's immoral

It is water resistant up to a certain level.
People will push the limits and test it but that is on them to pay for damage caused instead of blaming the manufacturer to make it more water resistant or completely water proof instead of taking responsibility for their own actions.

I've been in the ocean with my first generation SS AW several times, and I've taken my 7+ into the shower 4-5 times. So far so good.

May I ask why?!
Ocean: why not? It's not like I went scuba diving ... just 1-2m underwater for brief periods of time.

Shower: had to shower, waiting on important emails and texts (work) ... actually, I've noticed my earpiece (speaker) is kind of crackling lately - I wonder if it was damaged by the water? Have an app't at the Genius Bar next week, so I'll see what they say.

On my AW the crown got sticky. Apple website said to put it under warm water for a few seconds and it fixed it. That is far as I am willing to push that. As far as my 7, rain water has had no effect on it and that is far as I am willing to take that. I think water resistant is the best way to describe it.

My brother has used it in the shower. My wife has spilled drinks (twice) on her phone and rinsed it off under the sink. I dunked my phone in an ice/water bucket full of drinks. No issues for any of us. All iphone 7's
