I don't expect Apple to change. As ever though the ball is in Apple's court now to provide better GPUs.

I don't expect Apple to change.
It's 2010 once more.Good news is, GPU's are getting better no matter what.
Since 2006.unless they use only integrated graphics for the low end, but I don't see that happening.
Does anyone NOT like this announcement??
BTW, does this mean we will finally play Half Life 1 on the Mac after it was cancelled?
I've been running CS:S from my first-gen 2.0Ghz Unibody Macbook through bootcamp with decent results. Now that it's going to be ported over to Mac, will I see quality improvements or should I expect the same graphics capability as with bootcamp?
so this means my late 2007 Macbook should work...right?

Maybe the "we don't need gamers on the Mac" brigade are the last bastion of Mac snobbery. Thanks to Steam, it looks like that'll soon be history.Gamers are for crappy pc's and console games. We dont need gamers on Macs. Macs are for people who want to do serious stuff, useful stuff, creative stuff and important stuff

Not the first time.
Halo was weeks from release on the Mac, playable demo was on cover disks of magazines when the company was acquired and held for xbox release.
Wait it's not really that funny MS gaming devision was always a strong hold o Mac users. Most of the game production at MS was done on Macs just never released in Mac form.
Which makes me think that MS clearly has a bunch of API's and a version of Direct X that would've worked on PowerPC based Macs.
Little known fact.
haha I think the ps3 devkit has a retro charm. Reminds me of the CDTV.Its funny this is probably the first good looking dev kit in a long time. PS3's current kit is this monster:
Indeed, The Mini isn't really a good competitor to a custom gaming rig. You're paying for things like the form-factor etc there. (how does your quad core tower look under your TV?)

I'm all for custom pcs don't get me wrong..If it had a nice clean front I'd like it as a finished product too
It'd fit in nicely under many tv sets with AV equipment (like my 'quad core' htpc does - you're right about paying for form factor, but there's nothing to stop people putting 'gaming pcs' in decent looking cases under the tv)

So, my final question. If I buy a bleeding edge PC to play a bleeding edge game how long do I have before my rants about Apple GPU choices are hypocritical? Six months? A year? One thing is for sure, I can't justify the cost of being "hard core" and upgrading my GPU every few months.

When did they ever do a U turn?
I really would like to know how anybody can vote this story as negative. Could somebody of the negative fraction step forward and explain, please?

What's the point of a pretty devkit when the version the consumers get looks so bad.. Other than the black/special ones.. Is the external casing the same as the early ones? My 360 went a fetching shade of "90s Office PC Biege" over time. Not classy, hehe. That devkit is slick looking though.
