Just to address this point.

Apple have two models, as you know, the WiFi and 3G + WiFi.

Allowing iPhone tethering with the WiFi model would destroy sales of the 3G + WiFi model ... you must know that's the reason why tethering is a non starter on the iPad.

True but i dont give 2 monkeys, i dont want to pay every month for a new subscription, surely you can understand how stupid this idea is. why why why would i pay for 2 data plans when i only need 1???

Be like Vavle, they dont make you buy the game twice.

With this said whats the best gaming mouse for the mac I currently use the magic mouse with my 27 i7 but that wont be good for game any suggestions.

Best apple news i have heard in a long time. This is awesome for me, as now i can remove my bootcamp partition.

He is the vocal idiot who runs Valve. It's amazing to think of the man who brought HL to the world amongst others is such a flipping utter idiot. He has slated plenty of systems including the PS3, then the company magically does a U turn and suddenly supports said systems!! Just like the Mac.
Seriously, I swear Valve train governments in U turn strategy.

That idiot runs the most successful game developement house in gaming history. Think of it, they get payed to sell their competitor's games. Apart from their own

A little respect. ;)

Valve is like gaming's Pixar. They take a loooooong time to develop a game, but when said game releases, it's always gold. To any Mac user that has never had the privilege to use Steam or play Valve's games: You're in for a treat. :)

Oh and prepare for the weekend/holiday deals! (Unlike other stores, their sales are actual sales)

yawn ...

For the price of a slightly better configurated Mac mini, I bought myself a quad-core PC with a Geforce 8800GT two years ago. (3 years CPU and 7 (!) years graphics card warranty, by the way)
If Apple does not change its hardware philosophy, i will never take over the PC as a gaming platform (except the iPhone, but that is another league)

Does this statement make anybody else nervous? Maybe I'm old-fashioned and like to OWN my games, but this looks like your "sea change" right here.

What would be really exciting would be for Apple to release the new Mac Pro's.. Maybe next week..:(

Nobody apart from the Mac zealots sees this as a "challenge" to Windows gaming in that sense, that's not what it's about at all.

Indeed, The Mini isn't really a good competitor to a custom gaming rig. You're paying for things like the form-factor etc there. (how does your quad core tower look under your TV?) Apple doesn't offer anything for the average "hardcore" gamer.. But that isnt who Valve are trying to sell to here. They obviously weighed up the situation and decided there are enough of us already and going forward based on Apple's previous and current hardware philosophy. (not some fictional mid-tower mac!) And we'll be playing a lot of the same games together it seems, so what does it matter? :D

Yawnworthy to you but great news for all of us with powerful enough Macs. :D It is a small feather in the cap of osX and I doubt it'll influence many people's hardware purchases as they'l likely have ran bootcamp for this stuff before. Will definitely decrease the amount of people buying windows for the Mac though. I look forward to a future with much more universal gaming!

I'm grateful Mac market share has grown to the point where one of the biggest names in PC gaming has taken the time and effort to build something truly great for us.

Having been a Steam user since 2004 I've had the good fortune to see the application go from a simple update delivery system to a full fledged market place that rivals the hassle of having to buy a game retail. It's well maintained it's not too bloated like a certain online music store application *cough cough* and it's just too damn convenient! Seriously if there's another company that could use "Think Different" as their motto Valve would def be a top contender. They make wise decisions on what intellectual properties to invest in (Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, Portal) and they've been recently pretty good about delivering their products to the public in a timely matter (we'll forget about the Half Life 2 source code leak fiasco)

I'm interested in seeing how all my Source engine games will fare running on OS X native code on... on it's native hardware in comparison to my iMac running them via Windows Xp on my Bootcamp partition.

I'd also like to add... Xbox 360 and PS3 owners who play Team Fortress 2 are gonna feel pretty Butthurt that Mac users will have first day access to the pending Engineer update and subsequently all previous class updates.

:D:apple::D

The Razer Deathadder, hands down. You can buy the Mac version on the Apple store website although I'm sure any version will do (just download the OSX drivers from Razer's website).

It doesn't bother me in practice however much it sort of bothers me in principle. Currently you can back up your games from Steam but you need the client to run them.. I've been buying Steam and PSN download games for a while though and I dont get any less of a feeling of ownership. As long as they dont start charging a subscription it'll be fine. :D

Saying that most software licenses say "this is still ours, we're just letting you use it" ... I wonder if i actually own anything? lol.

Obviously this is a win for the Mac community. I think it will be a win for Valve as they will enjoy their products being available to a larger audience.

I doubt this will put a chink in the PC/Windows Gaming world though. That market is driven by cheap hardware and tons of titles.

In comparing Mac to PC hardware specs, I would wager that the PC will own the high end stats but the Macs will have higher average hardware specs than PCs.

The only idiot around here is you. When did they ever do a U turn? Gabe Newell has said before that they have been interested in expanding their games to OSX, it was just a matter of Apple never meeting them halfway and better prioritizing support for game development on their platform. Apparently that changed in recent months.

What other plenty systems did he slate apart from the PS3? Which is a garbage console by the way, every anecdote and complaint I've read from people who have been involved in developing and porting software titles to the system all say the Cell chipset is an absolute nightmare to program native code for.

Steam's model is pretty good though. It's nice being able to download my games with Steam on all my Windows computers (and my Linux ones with Wine, which works alright for Half-Life 2 and older games), and then having them updated from time to time.

Better than some games I've bought retail and then lost the CD after a while, so I can't reinstall it when I reformat my computer. And a lot of retail games are pretty much never updated.

It's kind of funny that Apple's gaming history was rewritten in a matter of weeks by a company started by former Microsoft employees. :)

As for the rest of you: I expect to see everyone here on the Counter-Strike: Source servers ASAP in April. PC hardware (Me) against Mac Hardware. Bring it! :D

Not the first time.
Halo was weeks from release on the Mac, playable demo was on cover disks of magazines when the company was acquired and held for xbox release.

Wait it's not really that funny MS gaming devision was always a strong hold o Mac users. Most of the game production at MS was done on Macs just never released in Mac form.

So says the vocal idiot who doesnt check his facts. The only Valve game on the PS3 is the orange box, which Valve didnt support. EA decided to produce/port the game to the PS3, hence why it was such a god awful port that lagged more than the 360 and had worse graphics as well

You should check your facts before slating someone off IMO

Microsoft produce loads of games in house? On macs?? I thought they just bought companies and code that they liked?
I'm sure any software company would release their software on as many platforms as possible - Microsoft have always pushed the tools/support/resources/etc for theirs. I hardly think that there's legions of programmers, making software on macs, clicking 'convert to directx' and removing osx support out of spite :)

Anyways, how is osx' mouse acceleration going to work on all these new fps games? Maybe it'll push apple into adding a long needed 'off' checkbox into system prefs?

Yet the people who actually develop for it full time are in love with the console.

The cell's parallel architecture requires a new way of thinking, which a lot developers are incapable of doing. So they instantly dont like it. Cell like coding is going to get more prominent as things like OpenCL and GCD gain more ground. (Shock Horror) Each time a new way of thinking is required for computing most people are in uproar because they let their minds become like slates. Cmaier is pretty unique as far as developers go. I can see this happening whenever Quantum/Bio computing makes its baby steps too.

Say Stupid Things Much?

Not any time soon. Once Apple decides to release a mid-range system then, maybe, it will dent Windows. I'm not going to pay $1200 for what is essentially a laptop with a fancy display. You can buy a Quad Core for less or an i7 for a couple hundred dollars more. A lot more bang for your buck the PC or Hackintosh route.

When Apple starts listening to what their customers want then they have a much greater chance of putting a dent into Microsoft's business.

I won't go on about all the reasons why the software/hardware ecosystem of the Apple computer is far superior to any WinPC (I own both). I'll just say this:

When you (or Steve Ballmer) have $25,000,000,000 cash in the bank, you should then start giving Apple business advice...

Great news, apart from the fact that I now need to replace the Macbook with something a little more powerful. :)
