I can't think of a single game on the Xbone that would make me want to gather my buds and some brews.

This is why we all bought Switches. Mario -kart, -Party, Smash Brothers, etc.
I really don't know, haven't looked for any games to do that. The last time we all got together and played a console game together was probably more than a decade ago. I guess we're just too old for all that anymore. Interests and activities change.
Haven't played Mario kart or smash brothers in ages. Smash brothers I last played on the wii. Mario Kart long ago on the wii-u.
Some of us, along with our wives, get together weekly for dungeons and dragons. Going old school!

Wouldn't you be able to play on your iPhone while someone else is at the PC?
No. It mirrors the screen so the game you play on your phone is also full screen on your PC. At least the last time I tried steam link on my shield.

I think I saw someone do it with virtualization.

So just installed and did some quick playing around. I hate the mfi controllers and love the xbone controller. So up until now i have been streaming games via Moonlight and steams big picture mode while using a bt xbone controller connected to my PC as my pc is in a place where bluetooth can reach anywhere i would play, mainly bedroom and living room. So i was worried this app would force me to use my dusty mfi controller. But good news, you can just select no controller and just basically use it as a desktop mirror and use the bt controller paired with your pc.

I certainly understand people not finding this appealing. On a smaller screen i understand but in my 12.9 ipad it works great. Have played thru several steam games on it including just finishing the new tomb raider from the comfort of my bed.

I saw one person post that they would wait for the switch version. That will never ever ever ever ever happen. Though that would be a dream.

Anyway, this takes some of the steps and at times instability out of my old method so its a welcome turn of events for me.

lol, Older school than me even, nice.

I thought this would be something I could connect an account to and go with it. I have to be connected to my home computer network?? Bummer.

I would love it if I could play all my Steam PC games on my iPad Pro 12.9! Civ V and Civ VI would seem to be a great fit. Prey (aint never coming to the Mac) and the weird PC games Enkling the younger plays. It would make some PC sales from a 99% Mac person... cha-ching!

I could also see this being a $team Game $ubscription $ervice edge of the wedge... why not just run the game on our hyper 1337 server hardware and we'll stream it to you live baby. Just $4.99 a month plus hats and cosmetics extra, also loot boxes. Yeah? Err hooray? Nix the loot boxes and I think we have a deal Gabe.

Between Apple's services, video streaming services, and my internet/tv bundle, I'd rather just buy my games one at a time, thanks.

...especially since I've got an i7/32gb/M.2 SSD/1080Ti system to push my games from.

Sucks for the .02% of users with iOS 10. But any device that is too old to support iOS 11 is not likely to run these games very well.
The device is not actually playing the game though, merely relaying video and the control inputs. Not sure how much power that takes. But I’m not sure that many people who own devices that can’t install iOS 11 will also be heavy Steam users. If people are choosing to not update though, well, there are consequences for that choice sometimes.

Except how often do you play the same game for years on end? Months on end even? Yes, it happens. But it seems to me anyway to happen more than I play a game for a few months then move on. Sometimes not even that long. If there are streaming services for games that cost less buying games that you eventually don't play anyway and don't have a resale value it may turn out to be cheaper to use a service.

And in a year or two any fancy gaming rig won't be fancy....amortize the cost of having a speed demon gaming machine on a basis and you may be surprised how much that is costing. If streaming game services could ever let you get away with a lower horsepower cpu the favor is going to switch in their direction even more.

Preferring to stay within macOS but also having a PC for gaming, it's really useful to just fire up the PC then access my games from macOS. Being doing it that for a while, works fine for me.

Yeah, World of Warcraft since at least 2007 :)

I don't build or buy low end systems. I've got at least 3 years left in this machine before I even need to think about upgrading any components.

I have about a dozen games I've bought on Steam over the years. They're all installed, they all get played when I'm not busy with...

...World of Warcraft, which I've been playing since Beta in 2004.

My endgame would be having a MacBook Pro and eGPU based rig. That way I have one machine instead of having my gaming rig and my iMac.

Now if we could get the xbox app for tvos I could be totally back on the sofa. (I play Windows based xbox games too.) Also MS has said they’re bringing ALL XB games to be playable in Windows.

Not really. It’s really simple. Bring your own people and don’t try to monetize their platform without participating in supporting it. This way they are in compliance and don’t have to share revenue because they bring their own customers as it should be. If they need Apple’s customer base to grow then Apple deserves their cut for that access. It funny how no one thinks Google should provide them with free ads on their platform.
chill. was only predicting the comments that might be flowing in.

No. Looks like Steam modified their app to conform to the AppStore guidelines, like every other developer has to do.

was predicting what comments might flow in. you mistaken me for taking a stance on this issue.

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking of malware etc. being installed via stuff downloaded through Steam. I don't trust it.

Play on TV? Where TV is far away from desktop?

Or play the game anywhere when the desktop isn't next to you at home? Such as bathroom, bed, backyard and other various location... ;)

I been doing this on android phone for awhile on casual steam games, it works great.

"and other various location" ...so you want to play some steam whilst dropping some steam :D
