Yep, going to be my last overnight preorder. Just isn't any need to do so anymore.

Yup. I'm glad I didn't get up at 3am EST. I got up at 6am EST to order 2 (RG 6S 64GB & SG 6S+64GB) and both are supposed to be delivered by 9/25. I just checked the inventory of the Apple Stores around my area (DC metro) and there still several models of both 6S & 6S+ in different stores (no RG left and few SG ones, but plenty of Silver & Gold).

Im not shocked they're not sold out. First, you are comparing to the 6/6+ where it was a total different phone and sizes basically from anything done before. Second, Apple ordered way more than they have in the past so they were ready. They sold out the 6S+ because I read somewhere they sell 1 plus for every 3 normal size ones.

I wouln't doom and gloom. It's ONLY 15 hours in currently, not evne 24 hours. Every model in the HUGE China market is sold. UK is starting to sell out on all models too. The US all 6S+ are sold out and you will start seeing the 6S in certain colors/storage sizes sell out in the next few days.

It's either Apple didn't make enough and screwed it up. They should know better. Use that war chest to make better production lines. Or, Apple is falling. Sales are slow. They're losing their mojo. Every time they set new records and every time ppl act like its the end of the world. Apple can't win.

I for one am glad myself and many others got the phones they wanted. I'm leaning towards Apple increased their inventory and prepared for this release.

I made a reservation for a rose gold Verizon 6S Plus around 10:15am EST for 10-10:30am launch day. Going to go to the Apple Upgrade Program way since I currently use Cricket and it makes the most sense, especially including AC+.

I did just check the reservation site again and no rose gold Pluses for any carrier at any Apple Store within a 3 hour radius (5 stores). No issues with stock on other colors I've noticed.

I noticed the same. I'll assume this year wasn't a blowout with the exception of the pink gold model.
At this point everything I've checked is 3-4 weeks out, even space gray 16GB(I haven't looked at every possible variation).
I'm pretty confident that they did a much better job this year of making sure they had plenty of stock. I'm sure the sales numbers will be the highest ever when the dust settles.

There's also an extra week between preorders and the launch date this year. Traditionally it's been one week later, so there is more supply for launch day since they have two weeks. I have a feeling they may have done this to prevent people from crying about having to wait a few days after launch.

if you want a 6s in any colour or capacity (except higher capacity Rose Gold), you're laughing. Not so with any capacity or colour Plus.

Seems that Apple underestimated demand on what appears again to be the more sought after model of the two.

The 6s (regular) is a nice phone. Should be lots of happy customers on the 25th.

Eh, better for everyone else. But really I wouldn't say it won't be necessary anymore, this is just a result of it being a marginal upgrade. Best believe that if iPhone 7 is a complete redesign per usual it'll be the same ole preorder fiasco we're used to.

Well pretty much everything is sold out on the Apple site to pickup in store. And for shipping it's 3-4 weeks.

I hadn't decided how I was going to do my upgrade until tonight so I lost on the pre-order. Looks like peeps like me will be waiting a while. Darn Apple :(

You had how long to decide and yet you waited almost a full day after preorders opened to make up your mind that you wanted one? That's entirely your fault, not Apples. Preorders were available for launch for hours and hours.

Ordered one last night from Verizon. Was shocked this morning when I ordered a second one through Apple's site around 9ish this morning. And at that time everything minus the rose gold color was available for order, and with ship dates of 9-25.

I never said it was anyone's fault. Let's not jump to conclusions. I hadn't intended on upgrading yet, I have yet to ever get a "s" model. Didn't really follow the release of it until like a day or two ago. Changed my mind and decided to upgrade. Then went back and forth with AT&T and got a bunch of BS handed to me. Yea it's to late now, I'll have to wait!

I highly doubt that. I saw a report of sales from the 6/6+ and for every 2-3 old of the regular 6 the only sold 1 6+. The 6 was by far overall more popular by a few times over.

They probably only had 1/4-1/3 the stock of 6S+ as the 6S to start with which is why the 6S+ are all back 2-3 weeks. Why would you order 3 times more than forecasted based on the 6/6+ trend?

They also ordered more phones overall than ever too so that's likely why the 6S isn't sold out. Doesnt mean they didnt sell a sh*t ton.

Apple has a super strong supply chain and has no doubt prepared for this launch like no other. Unlike the 6 launch, Apple has had ~1 year to work out the tooling, manufacturing, etc. The 6 --> 6s is just minor changes in the process, so no doubt that they have a huge stockpile to sell and can produce them quickly and efficiently.

I would bet 100 USD that Apple has sold more 6s preorders in the past day than they sold for 6 in this time.

I wasn't speaking in absolute terms per se re: popularity. I don't doubt that the 6 outsells the 6+. The Plus is more niche and the price alone chases people away.

Reality is, being out of stock on one item class and having excess in another is not ideal either. In a perfect world, both models would be tracking together in their wait times. Apple appears to have under-forecast the demand for the Plus and over-forecasted demand for the 6 so far.

I saw a lot of buzz in the forums leading up to the presale about the Plus. I'm not surprised they sold out so quickly.

the demand may have been bigger for the Plus this time around from people coming from a 6, sure. But they certainly didnt have the same levels of stock of each which is why the 6S+ is sold out for ll models.

but they dont just stick their finger in the air and say hmmm well 100k each sounds good. Projections from the 6/6+ led to how many of each in stock. It's the best guess they could've made.

I don't know, I think the demand for the 6S will not be as high as the initial i6.
Also its total sales I predict will not be as great.
It's not really sustainable to continue to grow and grow and sell more and more than last release each and every year. They will eventually reach a plateau or wall.
The demand of the new fully redesigned iphone with the bigger screen was great last year. This year it's just the same phone but slightly better than last years model.
I'd be interested to see some numbers comparison from last years preorders and first week of sales with this years.
And then sales over initial release quarter comparing the i6 to the 6S.
I could be wrong but it seems that the craze and demand is starting to die down.
