I originally joined to get some more information about repairing a Mac, and was completely blown away by how nice everyone was.

As I got more experienced with computers, I started helping others on the board. I really enjoyed that, and probably should get back into it, but I'm a bit behind on Mac troubleshooting at the moment.

Got hooked on the community forum because of topics far and wide - it's pretty interesting to read about peoples different opinions and experiences. Plus, you learn a lot of new stuff.

PRSI sometimes for a laugh, or to catch up with news in the world.

Read the front page a lot for about a year, for what else? Mac rumors!

There was a while too when I realized I had access to the Marketplace forum. So I stayed for a few good deals.

Left for a bit, came back, did that a couple times. Most recently came back to play some social games in the community forum... and that's where I saw this!

So I guess I'm here (and a couple other communities), for a pretty wide range of reasons :)

Sometimes it’s a tech question, which is how I discovered the site. I lurked for awhile after that and then signed on. Now I could be looking for ideas on a book to read or movie to watch, music to try out. Often enough I’m just trying to put some space between chores or parts of a project, just clear my mind of it or let it simmer in background. When I stumble into PRSI and decide to hang out for awhile, my mileage varies, and then so may yours ;)

Originally I was a lurker trying to find out when the next iPhone was out so I could buy the current one at a discount! Needles to say I bought the new iPhone 4 instead.
I then read quite a lot of the community and picture stuff and decided to join.
Like others, I've never been on FB or Twitter. It never had any appeal.
But on here I can chat about my interests day or night and probably find some people I know online to chat with as I would 'real' friends.
Plus you learn so much about Macs (I converted in late 2012), iOS and photography.

I don't know about anybody else, but most of the people I meet "in real life" are usually not willing to engage in discussions involving science, technology or politics, among other things. I particularly enjoy these things, and forums provide a medium through which I can indulge my need to share and debate my opinions amongst peers.

Hey, where are these discussions on science & politics - have I been locking myself away in the PPC forum :)

Filling downtime, communicating with people on similar interests I might not find in my social circle.

But mostly for the Daewoo automotive tech discussions.

I've found message boards to be a nice cross section between entertainment and very useful "real life" advice/information/reviews. Whenever I have a specific tech issue, if I'm looking for "real user" reviews on different things, I've always found message boards to be useful, with a touch of entertainment and enjoyable interaction.

I'm not that social. I find people in many cases to be tedious to have a friendship with, so I don't have a circle of close friends, although I do have acquaintenances that I socialize with. I am married and she basically takes up all my social energy. ;) So, the quick answer is that although I do discuss these things with my wife, and generally we see eye to eye, this forum gives me an outlet to discuss all manner of things with a group of online intellects including politics and religion, which in contrast would make for uncomfortable face to face discussions living in a Red, soon to be Purple State. :p

It's also a good source to discuss most things of a technical nature and share with strangers. ;)

Because reality bites. In reality I'm the Imp, but on the Internet I'm the giant of Lannister.:oops:

Fantastic! :D

Because being able to talk with people of common interest is the best thing ever. People I know simply do not care about anything that happens in tech. They also do not know anything. Anything...

For me the discussions seem more real than a lot of the fluff that gets discussed in real life. Sure there are the trolls and jerks, but overall discussions on message boards have a tendency to have more of a bite to it since there are so many voices.
