Looks like the chip supports SVDO but Apple support still can't verify if it does or not

Im an AT&T customer who is thinking about switching to Sprint and this has been my main question/concern. Wanted to bump the thread to see if anyone else has any more info on SVDO in the iphone 5.

It was a chip limitation not network.

data + voice over LTE and 3G is now possible.

Hey that's good news! I'm moving over to Verizon with this upgrade cycle and was thinking it was an AT&T feature that I'd miss. I don't use it tons, but there have been times where I have and thought I'd be without.

Thanks for the insight.

So to summarize, yes simultaneous talk and data on the iPhone 5 regardless of network/carrier.

Perfect.

That is an unclear conclusion.

*If* the *alleged* chip is in fact the 9615, it would appear since it supports SVLTE that at least in LTE mode, the Verizon iPhone would support simultaneous talk and data.

We cannot reach that conclusion about 3G mode on Verizon.

Dusting off the cobwebs on my account here, because I am also in the boat of being on AT&T, and wanting to switch to Sprint.

I think we'll have to wait until Verizon and Sprint can confirm it. (If you call them, or email them and get a response, please post it here!) Otherwise, we'll most likely have to wait until they are in the hands of actual Sprint and Verizon users.

It seems, however, that the iPhone *should* support simultaneous voice + data when it is on an LTE network (though I have not officially seen a source for that information).

Information from Verizon's website has been iffy. They have forums, but its unclear if any company representative participates in them. Perhaps Apple will be a better source of the phone's abilities.

I've "heard" the same thing.

However, looking at the specs of the Qualcomm MDM9615, it shows that it *does* support SVLTE (simultaneous voice and LTE), but it shows support of *Ev-Do* and not *Sv-Do.*

Thoughts? Where do you see it supporting SVDO?

Apple may be able to say whether or not the phone has the capability, but the definitive source would be the carrier, who can confirm what situations this feature would or would not work with on their network.

Either way, there has been no 'official' comment on this yet that I have seen. I did send Sprint a contact. We'll see what they say. If more people send emails or call the carriers, they would be more likely to look into it and come up with a definitive answer.

Pretty big bummer. Apple really does make it hard to defend sometimes. I mean this is standard on most Android phones now....ridiculous

Depending on how remote you are....I think Verizon is working pretty hard to make the LTE coverage equal their current 3G coverage by mid-2013. If that's the case....it won't matter....you'll be on LTE everywhere anyway.

I own a Nexus. It does not support SVDO and will not hold a phone call at the same time as an EV/DO data session. You are, respectfully, mistaken.

guess what, I've done this plenty of times, placed phone calls while using data at the same time. it works. quit spreading misinformation please.

Im with AT&T now and definitely use this feature. Was thinking of switching to Sprint (in Charlotte, NC which is getting LTE soon), but Sprints 3G is so shoddy that its scaring me away. Verizon is out because they are way too expensive (I have a family plan with a planned 5 iphones). Looking more like I might have to stick with AT&T since they are grandfathering in the unlimited plans.

It will only work in a 4G areas not 3G so he wasn't spreading false info

My friend, I just put my sim card back into my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, forced it to 3G (EV/DO) and attempted several times to hold a call and a data session at the only time. It doesn't work.

The CDMA Galaxy Nexus will hold a phone call at the same time as a 4G (LTE) data session. If you have "done this plenty of times" you were either on 4G or WiFi.

Respectfully, you are mistaken. I am not. If I have to put up a Youtube video of it working on 4G and not on 3G I will be wasting my day. To be clear, I have the phone in question, and just attempted to do a thing I knew would not work.

It didn't.

word. i was on LTE.

So the verdict is?

Someone want to sum up what we've learned so far?

I'm hearing on Verizon - you're good for voice & data simultaneously.

On 3g??
