In my experience ship date and delivery date are always the same, which is kind of confusing. To me, ship date should be the day it starts moving. But I digress.
No, in my experience the ship date on Verizon's end has never really moved much, but the phone is delivered regardless of Verizon's estimate.
About 1 or 2am the morning of delivery everything gets updated. Until then, all signs point to your order being lost in limbo.
I remember last year a lot of people got impatient and there were countless stories of people on these forums cancelling their pre-orders to pick up in-store, or to place a new order for their second choice device, etc. That never works out.
If you wake up on Friday and you don't have any updates, call Verizon and ask them what's up. But, if your phone is coming on Friday you may not have any indication whatsoever before the Fedex guy rings your doorbell.
