We're paying $200 a month for 2 dumbphones and 2 smartphones on their old plans. On the new ones with 3GB of data, it is more expensive, like $230. Explain to my how it is cheaper.

In the OP you made it seem like you had 1 phone.

Teather is free with shared plan on Verizon?

Should be after the lawsuit regarding LTE spectrum for Verizon. They can only charge for 3G and unlimited as far as I know.

----------

how much is the full price of an iphone?

16gb - $650
32gb - $750
64gb - $850

----------

I found a way to get a subsidized phone and keep unlimited data. I tried it out on a family memeber this week when she upgraded to a GS3. It worked! It's complicated, but worth the trouble.

Would you also PM me the details? Thanks!

how do mobile hotspots work? How would I be able to tether my wifi iPad? is it through my phone?

Yes. If your on your iPhone, disconnect from your wifi network and go to Settings->General->Network and turn Mobile Hotspot ON and then it should appear below Wi-fi on your iPhone settings.

is there anyway to see how much data you use on average per month? I'm on unlimited but Verizon obviously is going to force everyone off that with the iPhone 5. I'm worried that the 4G data speeds will eat up my data.

I have 2 weeks left till the end of my billing cycle and i've uses 231.17mb so far

While I enjoy having the unlimited plan right now, I will be buying the new iphone at a 2 year contract price. I've been closely monitoring my data usage the past few months and have found out that I only use at most 500 - 700 MB a month on cellular data (with rest being on wifi) The only time I'm not on Wi-Fi anymore is when I'm in my car.

I've figured out that to pay full price and keep my unlimited data will only cost me (total amount spread out over the course of two years) 74¢ more per month than going with the mobile share plan @ 2GB w/1 iPhone. That alone makes it worth it to me. Then you couple that with the fact that Verizon cannot legally charge us extra to tether 4G data, and I'll have a pretty sweet deal going on. ^_^

Yes, the initial cost sucks. But thinking long term... big whoop. ;)

They are still charging unlimited 4G LTE users for tethering.

Uhh, no I didn't?

In your first post, you never mentioned anything about having more than one phone. Regardless - my response was directed at people with 1 smartphone. Nothing more.

Correct me if my interpretation of this is wrong, but according to the FCC they can no longer do that. But only for 4G... 3G is a different story.

Well, they're still charging me for it on my unlimited plan. $30/mo on top of my $30/mo data plan. Most of the articles I've read mentioned that grandfathered users aren't included and the verdict means they have to allow apps that allow tethering:

PM me? Care to share?

When your contract is up (mine was up in June), walk into Verizon and say you want to upgrade to the iphone 5 and keep your current plan. Develop amnesia about whatever data packages they have to offer you and if they wont sell you a subsidized iphone 5, threaten to switch carriers and leave the network. Verizon and AT&T are crooks, but best believe they will accommodate a long time customer who threatens to switch to a rival.

I had the HTC Thunderbolt unlimited 4g and bought my 4s full retail. I plan on selling my 4s regardless, but i know if all else fails..all the cases, chargers, accessories i've purchased over the course of a year will be beneficial to the $500 price tag i'll put on craigslist.

near mint iphone 4s
23 cases (including lifeproof)
5 chargers
dock
bluetooth

i can purchase the iphone 5 with minimal loss. i just rather Verizon allow my upgrade. if not. ill keep getting annoying emails and usps mail about uprading..

It ends up being cheaper to just get the subsidized price with 2GB of data, as you'd have to use more than 4GB to make paying full price worth it. At that point, just get your data usage under control, and you'll make out better.

I asked Verizon for a quote of my average data usage which is about 7.78gbs a month. I can pay Verizon everytime I go over... Or I can be content knowing I won't have to call a rep or wait for a bill because I went over a few MBS and being charged another $20

By less than a dollar a month, with the total cost averaged out over 2 years. This is for one line, btw. For that price it only makes sense to buy it outright. (for me anyways)

thanks

The hotspot isn't free with unlimited only share everything. Also, for seeing the data each month you should see account analysis on the my Verizon website and it will let you do that. However, when I looked at that online it showed that my 2gb plan lines used 1gb every month and that my unlimited did too.

Or add tethering, cancel your home service and use as much data as you wish.

I figured it up today and i regularly use over 4 gb/mo.

In order to keep my current family plan and accommodate my current data usage, my bill will increase approximately $50/mo.

Awesome.

same here. I stream pandora, spotify, tunein radio and stitcher during my daily commute to and from work. at home and work I have wifi. so switching will be fine for me. I barely hit the 1.2 GB a month so I should be fine with 2gb but I may initially sign up for 4gb and monitor it first.

I was originally going to consider the 4gb one also. But ever since I heard about the new tiered data from Verizon I've been watching my data closely and found out that I don't ever exceed more than the 2gb/month plan. My daily commute is only 25 minutes and I don't always listen to pandora, spotify, etc. every single day. Generally just a couple times a week if that.
