I have another phone coming on Tuesday from FedEx, so I'll see what happens and talk with the driver to see what they say I would need to do. I was under the impression signatures haven't been required since COVID, maybe I'm mistaken.

Pre-signing is possible with an indirect signature. I don't recommend it. As you (not FedEx, Apple or Verizon) will be responsible if it gets stolen.
I just received my email from Verizon that my phone was shipped. My order was complete at 8:05am EST on Friday 11/06. Delivery date 11/13.
Indirect signature required'?' Reads:"FedEx obtains a signature from someone at the delivery address; from a neighbor, building manager or someone at a neighboring address; or the recipient can also leave a FedEx Door Tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present."
Verizon has disabled the option to electronically sign for the package, but you're free to find a release form online, sign that and leave it for them.

You can see the estimated arrival date on the pre-order page. An iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB in Pacific Blue from Verizon is still showing a November 13 delivery!
My iPhone pro max shipped! I ordered the silver 256 GB around 10am on pre-order day!
Ordered on 11/6 but I look at the app today and it says I owe 40 dollars in a late fee. Will this affect the order in anyway?

Mine shipped today according to website/app. However UPS tracking number still isn't trackable via MyChoice. Been that way for several hours. Wonder why it's not in their system yet? PB Max 256gb. Ordered 6:55 am CST on launch day.

That doesn’t mean much. My order of a Pro states shipment of 11/04, still no tracking. Was 11/11 a few days ago.
I ordered about 2 hours after pre-orders opened up because Verizon's website was giving me issues. I had the 11 pro max and it was saying I needed to finish paying off the device. I had to call the sales department to take care of it. Worked out though cause they ended up waiving the activation fee, and because I was shipping to an overseas APO, there was no tax involved. So it cost me $0 launch day. Now just waiting for the shipment notification. Still processing, and I’m wondering if I’ll actually receive it launch day since I’m in Guam and things usually take 2 to 3 weeks to get here.
Possibly a dumb question, but it's been 4 years since we activated new phones with Verizon. 
We don't have cellular service at our house, and use WiFi calling there. Should we go to an active cellular area to activate our phones when they arrive, or can we activate them over WiFi? I'm thinking we may have to go to an active cellular area to activate.
I hoped you guys had insight. If not, will call Verizon.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. My alternative was to drive to Verizon and sit in their parking lot, walking inside if I ran into issues. 😂
Update: I still haven't received any shipment information from Verizon yet but another inbound shipment from them showed up in my FedEx account. So, the iPhone 12 Pro Max 512GB in Graphite has been scheduled for pickup.
I'm so happy all four shipments this year were sent via FedEx. I'd honestly pay an extra $100/year to have FedEx deliver everything if required.

You're welcome. From what Rory has said, he has been in similar situations, to avoid any downtime he has service from all available internet providers in the area. He only has Verizon for phone service, though. Crazy!
Verizon is quite good with their shipments and dates, always a chance you could receive it early.
