For those on Verizon - if buying the phone outright, is there a difference between buying the no carrier version or choosing Verizon when ordering on Apple’s website? Is one method preferred?

36 months sucks, but you if you trade in your new iPhone 14 after 2 years you will still do better than buying the phone for full price. My wife has a standard iPhone 12 that we did a 24 month payment with Verizon that basically got us the phone for free. Verizon will pay me $800 over 3 years if we trade that phone in for a new iPhone 14. $800 x 36 months is $22.22 per month, so if we decide to trade it in 2 years from now I forfeit $266 in trade in credits, meaning they gave me $533 for a $800 2 year old phone.

If I buy the iphone 14 from Apple now they will give me $320 for the iphone 12 trade. $533 is pretty damn good, and if she’s not into the iPhone 16 then she can hold out and get full trade in credit for the iPhone 17 when it is shipping (after the full 36 month term). Basically if you want to upgrade every year just trade it in to Apple. But for people like me that have no plans of leaving Verizon due to coverage/service than not trading in an old phone is leaving money on the table.

I’m going from upgrading every 2 years to annually now, so I’ll be trading in with Apple starting next year.

When does the store on the website usually update with the phones? Ordering through there as I usually do, but I always get paranoid around pre-order time.

Everything should be up by tomorrow. I spoke with a rep who said we can preorder S8 starting tomorrow.

Does anyone know if preordering through the store if you pay tomorrow or when the phone arrives? My store said they're coming in at 7 am to call people and order through website, but I haven't ever ordered this way before and don't want to get screwed or any hiccups to cause me to get backordered.

I would safer ordering online vs in store. I’m scared to order in store.

For the 12 Pro Max I went with sim free vs choosing Verizon so that I wouldn’t pay the upgrade fee. Now this year since there’s no sim tray, I don’t know if that would mean anything anymore.

I'm going iPhone 14 Pro Max Deep Purple 256 this year and I'm ordering through Apple on Verizon financing. I also pre-ordered a Series 8 cellular in Midnight.
What the pros of ordering thru apple on Verizon than thru Verizon directly. Just wondering. I always order thru Verizon and have had no problems.

In your scenario in the first paragraph, do you pay Verizon $266 to break the 36 month commitment?
Yes, I would pay the $266 if I want a new phone in 24 months. Still gave me $534 for a phone that Apple will only give me $320 for.

I’m up for return and upgrade with Verizon since I’ve paid more than half of the phone. I’ll be getting the 1tb space black pro max since I’ve had gold the last two years. The deep purple looks nice but kinda girly lol. The reason I’m going with the 1tb is because I’m planning on sticking with this phone for the next 3 years unless something amazing comes out from apple. If everything goes well in the morning for preorder I’ll have the phone on the 16th in time for the chilli peppers show in Arlington and south padre island on the 19th. Good luck guys.

With Apple my iPhone 12 Pro Max arrived via UPS. I paid outright which is the same thing I would’ve done with Verizon. There’s really no difference. I don’t know if Verizon lock the iPhone to their network for 60 days vs they are already unlocked when you order from Apple.

Good luck! I’m ordering with Apple.

Yes that's like they gave you $534 for your old phone; however, where is the discount? $800 towards new phone when you upgrade is the deal. That deal is suppose include discount plus money for the trade-in. Since you have to pay $266 in the scenario, they are only giving $320 for your phone (just like Apple) and $534-$320 = $268 discount.

IMHO I don't think its worth being hog-tied to Verizon for 36 months. For 36 months I want something else in addition to what's being offered.

Does the “Get Ready” for pre-order functionality in the Apple Store app work for anyone upgrading through Verizon?

I’m upgrade eligible, but the “Continue” button stays disabled and there’s no indication why. Didn’t work last year either.
Same for me.

Separately, here's Verizon's official info on iPhone 14 offers:

Have a purple pro max ready to go in the Apple Store app. 4:59pst will be hitting that enter key. The only thing that bothers me is the $30 Verizon fee.

edit: the reason I went with Verizon is that apple website said the phone comes activated and I didn't want to mess around with the esim.

Maybe I'm confused but this doesn't seem right. They are actually giving him $800 for the phone currently, but if he breaks the contract after 2 years then he has to pay off the remaining $266. So that would have been $800, now minus the $266 and that is where he would still have gotten $534. So it's a better deal than Apples deal but sucks they dont do all the credits up front.

Im in a similar situation. Apple is offering me $600 for my phone, then Verizon will kick in the extra $200 for a total of $800 off. I get the $600 off from Apple, then bill credits from Verizon. Im going to upgrade in a year so I might as well let Verizon give me credits for a year for free. I'll lose some money but it's a better deal to me.

Anyone know whether I can do an early return upgrade (I'm a year into a two year payment plan) via Apple or can I only do that through Verizon?

No it doesn’t for me either. It says some thing like wait for pre-order 9/9

Does going SIM free avoid the activation cost if I order from Apple?
I doubt it. I bought my Apple Watch from Apple. And had to pay an activation fee when activating it on Verizon. And since you can no longer just swap in your sim I'd be willing to bet they are gonna get their $35. Hopefully I'm wrong though.
