Also have this same issue. Especially annoying when trying to use Siri from the lock screen while driving. "Siri, call Bryan"... *15 seconds go by*... "Calling Bryan, mobile".

Super annoying.

What city/state are you in? We are trying to figure out if this is a regional thing.

Just another question, is this just happening with Safari browser when browsing? Does it exist with any other browser when it comes to displaying pages after phone is unlocked? The new Safari on my imac is also slow to load, compared to firefox, chrome, etc.

It's happening in Chrome also.

When phone wakes, the first thing it does is try and connect to network, thus the reason why Siri is slow, apps are slow, etc until connection is made. So if the handshake to network is not properly functioning, then major issues arise. Do you have the same issues when ony wifi is on and you turn the network off?

The problem is that I have had Siri do that on my iPhone 4S too. That could be a Siri thing just as much as it is an issue with the Verizon iPhone 5.

I have a developer account and submitted this forum to apple. Lets see what happens.

Thanks for this! Hopefully Apple can put a foot to Verizon if it is indeed a Verizon issue. Otherwise, a lot of people are going to be returning phones in a week

I doubt that Apple will acknowledge the issue if there is no way to fix it and I also doubt that there will be mass returns of Verizon iPhones. The majority of users may just assume that the phone is supposed to work that way.

I'm currently in Montgomery, AL and I am having the same issues. Backup from iPhone 4, reset network settings and did a hard reboot. Nothing worked.

There is no way majority of users are going to assume that this is the way the phone is supposed to work, especially if they have owned a smartphone before. I am also going to assume you aren't having this issue. To your other post about this being just a Siri thing, its not. As a number have stated in this thread, the issue happens with anything that uses data, whether its Siri, Safari, Facebook, Gmail, Weather or any other app that uses data.

Apple won't because it sounds like a verizon issue. Notice that most of the people having the issue are in the south not elsewhere. South is one region of the Verizon network.

I simply said that Siri is not the best thing to use as a judgement tool not that it was a Siri thing. I would also mention that most iPhone owners have never owned a smartphone with a different operating system and that most Verizon iPhone owners have never had a LTE phone before. The users on Macrumors are not representative of the general population.

I called both verizon customer service and a couple local verizon stores and both said they havent heard of any issues from other users.. this is odd

They always say that. Never believe a rep. Just watch, the network will magically be working properly sometime on Monday.

Most Verizon iPhone owners never having an LTE phone is precisely why people will notice this (if they are affected by it). My 4 locked on immediately to the 3G network. Its obvious the 5 is locking on much slower.

For me, at least, this issue is not limited to using Siri on the iPhone 5. It's an issue when the phone wakes from sleep after being locked for a while and any app is trying to use data over the LTE network. As some have said, it's almost like the phone has to handshake when it's waking up and we have to wait 10-15 seconds for the handshake to complete before data starts moving.

No issues when the phone is also connected to a Wi-Fi network and I haven't turned off the LTE radio yet to test it on 3G. I did do a network reset and a power down and restart of the phone but the problem persists over LTE when it's been idle for a few minutes or more. I setup my Verizon iPhone 5 from an iTunes backup of my Verizon iPhone 4.

Does anyone know the number to dial to do an automated reprovisioning of the handset/downloading of tower and roaming configs? I want to say it's like #85 Send or something like that. Wondering if doing that might address this issue?

EDIT: I Googled around and the number is *228. Anybody try that? I saw on one of the Android forums that someone said dialing that has no affect on LTE devices. Not sure if that's true, but I don't want to be the guinea pig.

I have a friend who has an iphone 5 here in Sioux Falls. I got to try it out, and had no issues with delays. Again, the reason is a different chipset. If the network is not properly set up in your region for that chipset, then that is when problems will occur. Many, many people have gone from android 4G phones to iphone 5 and would notice the problem. Again, I did not notice any of these problems. I can almost guarantee it is a regional Verizon issue. Post your locations. So far it has been exclusively to the south.

The chip automatically updates the PRL.

#85 did not work for me and *228 is no longer supported on 4G LTE phones. My understanding is that the roaming is automatically updated. The iPhone 5 won't let you dial *228

This issue is not affecting me.... verizon iphone 5 in central southeastern michigan.
- iCloud not set to do full back-ups
- email set to push
- set up as a new phone
- location services on

I think it may be a regional thing.

It looks like all Verizon customers in the south. Probably going to get the most results by complaining to Verizon.

gainesville fl here. problem also occurred in st. Petersburg fl. Call verizon, make sure a support ticket gets filed. Its the only way this issue will be fixed.

can someone please chime in from the north east or west coast and say whether or not they are having the same issues

This is definitely regional. Call Verizon and let them know so that hopefully we can get this resolved.
