Verizon use separate servers for iphones, with android and other phones on the other servers. So it should be fairly easy to identify the server or servers causing the problems down south. With that being said, it may take awhile to figure out how to fix it. They probably have minimal staffing on weekends, so additional IT's probably have to come in and help out.

Northwestern Alabama here with the same issue. Get the spinning data indicator for awhile before Safari responds.

The Verizon IT guy was annoying me a bit, talking about how he was an Android user and his theory was this is a software problem with the phone and nothing to do with the network, and hard telling how long Apple will take to fix it. Either way he says they will look into it.

As someone mentioned on the Verizon forums, this is not the same issue that's being discussed here.

And as I mentioned on those support forums it is.

While the description in my post my differ to some degree I assure you I suffered from the same LTE lag issues for the brief period time I was in an LTE area today.

My issues with maintaining a good signal are simply in addition to that and dont necessarily occur at the same time.

Not saying you're incorrect, but I know that my third-gen Verizon iPad uses LTE and does not have this issue. It would be strange that the LTE iPad would use a different set of "servers" than the LTE iPhone, I would think.

To me, it almost seems like the iPhone 5 is trying to handshake with the LTE tower(s) and it's trying two or three different protocols or something and then it finally finds the one the tower is talking on and the connection is established. I have no idea how LTE works -- this is just a layman's idea.

I've also noticed that it takes about 10 seconds for my iPhone to lock onto an LTE signal when it's powered on. My other theory is that the LTE radio is programmed to turn off when the phone is locked to save battery; and when the phone is unlocked, it's basically having to find the signal and lock on all over again. Two issues with this idea though: the problem isn't affecting everyone with iPhone 5 handsets, and the phone doesn't say "Searching..." when you unlock it like it does when it's powered on. In fact, in every case I've had this problem, I've had full LTE signal strength while the problem is occurring.

for me sometimes it works perfect with no lag but tonight its been lagging everytime i use my LTE...10 second lag then blazing fast speeds kick in..its weird and sporadic...doesnt seem to be a hardware issue, but a network issue or a software bug

It also uses a different chipset than your ipad with LTE. The servers have to be configured correctly for each chip or you will have problems. It's only happening in the south on Verizon. It's a Verizon issue. I would bet there is a major server having issues in the south with the iphone 5 because it is not configured correctly.

That makes sense to me. I suspect Verizon will have this sorted out within the next few days. I will definitely not be swapping this phone out because it's otherwise been flawless for me since I picked it up Friday morning.

If anyone currently having this issue in the South is traveling to other parts of the country in the next day or two, it would be interesting to find out if the problem disappears when they're no longer in this part of the country.

To reiterate, everyone please call Verizon and/or tweet at them so they can get on this asap.

I can confirm this issue is with the Southeast region of the US. Just landed in New York for business and the LTE is working flawlessly with no connection lag or weird wait. I had to wait over 10 seconds everytime I unlocked my phone to connect to LTE in Miami.

do you believe that this is def a verizon issue?

I do. I've been using my phone since I landed and its been flawless. Even tested it by locking the screen and waiting 10 minutes then asked Siri a question. Also speedtest didn't need even a second to locate the server.

Anyone having service jump around too? My phone has lower service than my wife's 4S right next to it, even using field test application. It also jumps from 1-2 bars and then will search and search and search.

I'm having the same problem with my vzw iPhone 5. Very annoying but I agree with what everyone's been saying, call Verizon it's effortless. Get this issue attention. I already called myself hopefully this is resolved ASAP so we can enjoy our phones

This seems to confirm that this is, in fact, a regional issue that Verizon is responsible for addressing. Thanks for posting, IndoX!

Verizon, same issue takes 10-15 seconds lag when startingtl use tbe internet, sometimes longer, then starts zooming fast.

Filing a ticket with verizon right now. Apple next.

Guys please please please file a ticket with verizon, this tech is saying only 3 tickets have been filed for this particular lag. (Prolly BS but yeah.. )
