There are hundreds of carriers with iPhone 5 but always the posts tend to be about Verizon or AT&T.

Full disclosure: current AT&T customer and wasn't planning on switching. But I honestly wonder how many people actually use this feature?

I conciously remember using this feature maybe three times in the past several years.

Yea for me personally, I hardly ever use it, and when I do I'm usually at home connected to Wi-Fi. But I can see how other people would use it.

Woah! That's not good. I tend to always browse the net and other internet related things while on calls with my headset. I'm glad I'm with AT&T.

This is a minor problem, but I still plan on switching from AT&T to Verizon, simply because I want the low-spectrum LTE that will be more likely to penetrate the concrete skyscraper walls in midtown Manhattan. AT&T = 0 bars. "No service." Anything would be an improvement.

So what will happen if you take Verizon version overseas? I assume it will have the same issue with LTE bands overseas?

Verizon iPhone 4 owner here. I've never once needed this feature......but really? I thought LTE was supposed to fix this? Although I could care less and am still getting the phone on Verizon, I'm amazed by this.

Duh no *****

If on CDMA it won't, but on LTE it will.

Seriously, a PR moron with no tech understanding of course isn't going to get this part correct

This sucks, but for where I live there is no other carrier I would consider except for Verizon. I can see this really sucking if driving using the ios6 turn by turn nav and I have to take a call. Good he updated maps...

A US editorial staff + a large portion of the readership in the US = most stories are going to be about the US carriers.

If you have information of what's going on in other countries, I would submit them as tips, they might get used.

Wow. I know most people don't think this is a big deal breaker, but my mom has Verizon and has asked me multiple times why she can't do this. If she's on a conference call, she can't make reservations for dinner (for example) until the call is over. That's some ********.

How can you know if you never had the feature to start with :)

No NAV and Phone???

So while using the turn by turn maps you can't get a phone call and continue to be navigated?! Awful

The operative word in your statement is consciously. If that feature were removed form your service you would probably find yourself missing it more often than you realize. Like they say, you don't know what you have until it's gone.

That's probably because they service the vast majority of iPhone users, so it is of greater interest.

I don't believe this. I think this statement is not entirely complete. If you are on CDMA 3G, it is correct. If you are on LTE, it will be fine.

Lol... The eVil empire still is inferior. But they do put out good commercial with great spin on their capabilities.

I will NEVER go with Verizon without simultaneous voice and data - what a JOKE! I feel bad for everyone on that network.

Why? Every other phone with LTE does it, it's obviously a limitation with the iPhone 5. Also, how's that non-existent LTE? I've got unlimited and unthrottled LTE in places where dial-up is the only other internet option.

So what happens if you're tethering? Or navigating with the new turn-by-turn navigation in maps? Does the call go to voicemail or is the data connection interrupted to allow the call through?

This might be a problem for people who stream audio in the car, perhaps? I don't know what the limitations are for that sort of thing, but I used to have all sorts of issues with my 1st gen iPhone because I'd be listening to Pandora in the car and suddenly have missed calls pop up once I got out of the car at home.

Ok, on second thought....complete speculation here....but is it possible Apple didn't bend over backwards to include this capability for Verizon, and Verizon didn't push for it...because they don't care if it pushes away some users?

If you walk into a Verizon store, they will not try to sell you an iPhone. It's almost as if they just offer it because they have to.

What about getting directions while on a phone call? I use my phone on long trips all the time and have maps up.

Totally valid point. But still probably wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I live in a place where AT&T coverage is typically better than Verizon, so I wouldn't necessarily switch. But if my AT&T coverage was awful, the lack of simultaneous voice and data would be quickly tossed aside.
