Which particular one are you talking about? How can you tell if your verizon cell phone is locked? Thank you
I have the iPhone 6 with the model number that starts with N.Which particular one are you talking about?
Was it purchased from Apple or a carrier perhaps?I have the iPhone 6 with the model number that starts with N.
I purchased my first phone from the Apple Store and then something was wrong with it so I ended up with a replacement phone from the Apple StoreWas it purchased from Apple or a carrier perhaps?
What's the benefits of having a sim free phone if you need to travel internationally? Thank youThis happened to my friends iPhone 6 which was Verizon. Im not taking the chance again, selling my 6 on Swappa and just bought a sim free version on swappa. Actually saved a lot of money too
So when you got the original one from the Apple Store which one did you get from them--one for a particular carrier or a SIM free one or some other one?I purchased my first phone from the Apple Store and then something was wrong with it so I ended up with a replacement phone from the Apple Store
SIM fee basically will accept pretty much any SIM as long as the hardware supports the particular carrier (the frequencies that are used). What's the benefits of having a sim free phone if you need to travel internationally? Thank you
The sim free version is the only true world phone. Sim free version iPhone 6 is Model A1586 and will support every LTE band throughout the entire world. The Tmobile, verizon,AT&T model are A1549 will only support a small handful of LTE bands. This happened to my friends iPhone 6 which was Verizon. Sprint is also A1586 but is locked domestically unless you can get them to unlock it.
Also, the sim free version is unlocked on all 4 carriers including Sprint.
Via a PM, ill expand a bit more. With the sim free version as well, you can take it to AT&T, Tmobile, Sprint or Verizon and they will all activate it.
If you take a Verizon 6 to Sprint, they won't activate it. Im not sure if its possible (I strongly believe it is) but regardless it still wouldn't support the LTE bands as a A1586 model.
I should have said LTE overall, not bands. While it may only support "4" more bands, the amount of more countries with LTE that the sim free one supports v the others is a lot.....Verizon / AT&T / T-Mobile iPhone model vs Sprint / SIM free model = difference of 4 LTE bands.....Far from your description of "Small handful of LTE bands".
The Verizon / AT&T / T-Mobile version is adequate for majority of the world (AT&T / T-Mobile need unlocking). If one has the option obviously SIM free is useful, but only for those that actually travel or travel often enough to areas where TD-LTE is launched.
To be fair, if it's some weird unforeseen glitch that has the supposed factory unlocked Verizon phones not fully unlocked, who is to say there might not be some similar weird glitch that affects some SIM free version unlocked phones from being fully unlocked? I mean something like that is basically unforeseen in any of those cases.I should have said LTE overall, not bands. And also some people like myself are finding the Verizon iPhone to be locked internationally. You will not have this problem with the sim free one.
Two of the biggest countries in the world-China and Japan-are only supported with the sim free version if you want LTE. Which is why I switched to it
There has never been one post about it anywhere on the internet whereas the Verizon one has dozens of posts among Google. To be fair, if it's some weird unforeseen glitch that has the supposed factory unlocked Verizon phones not fully unlocked, who is to say there might not be some similar weird glitch that affects some SIM free version unlocked phones from being fully unlocked? BEFORE YOU START TELLING ME THEY ARE ALL UNLOCKED YES I AM VERY WELL AWARE THAT THEY ALL ARE ACCORDING TO THE VERIZON AGREEMENT WITH FCC OVER LTE BAND 13 = 700MHz. But there is a issue where the DOMESTIC ONLY POLICY gets assigned to certain models, WHY -- I DONT KNOW
BUT THESE UNITS DO NOT WORK ON INTERNATIONAL SIM's / WORK FINE WITH US SIM CARD's.
Incorrect Policy: Next Tether Policy Details: US GSM/VZW N61/N56 Service Policy = Domestic Unlock / International Lock
Correct Policy: Next Tether Policy Details: US Verizon LTE MM N61/N56/N51/N48/N42 = Fully Factory Unlocked for US + Worldwide usage. As you know the N51/N48/N42 = 5S / 5C / 5 respectively.
Apparently its an issue with Verizon / Apple server's Syncing but I think its more than that and so far the issue is only starting to gain momentum
Yes we already know LEGALLY Verizon cannot lock any phone / tablet that has access to BAND 13 LTE.
Proof the issue exists:
1)
2) Here is a thread on Apple forums but not very helpful: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6763925?start=15&tstart=0
TWO WAYS TO TEST TO SEE IF YOUR AFFECTED:
1) Buy a GSX IMEI Report (eBay or another website - about $1) = If you see the Correct Policy as mentioned above = Your device is fully factory unlocked
OR
2) Insert ANY international SIM into your Verizon iPhone 6 / 6 Plus and see if you get INVALID SIM error. (SIM DOESNT HAVE TO ACTIVE, IF YOUR AFFECTED THE DEVICE WILL DISPLAY THE INVALID SIM ERROR EVEN WITH A INACTIVE SIM) = If no issue = Correct Policy, IF Issue = Incorrect Policy
So before you travel or resell your Verizon iPhone be sure to test it so you or 2nd hand owner does not end up with a "defective" device.
I have called Apple personally to question after I found someone selling a iPhone 6 on craigslist with this issue -- but they did not provide any acceptable answer other than offer to trouble shoot it over the phone -- I did not buy the device from the craigslist seller because I know this issue exists and because that device had the INVALID SIM error upon inserting a international SIM, It wasn't worth my money.
Apple support will just tell you its Locked to Verizon and only top tier senior advisors will tell you that Verizon iPhones are factory unlocked for all GSM networks (this would apply to the correct policy assigned devices only)
Please do not waste this thread telling us things we already know, lets keep it technical and determine how many users are affected instead.
