Wow. I just stumbled on this thread and hope I don't have this issue. I just purchased a new iPhone 6 16 from Verizon after clearly telling the store guy I wanted to use it in both the USA and in Thailand using a different SIM card. he said no problem.

I need to leave in 4 minutes for some errands and stuff but later today I will install the SIM from my Thai iPhone 5 and see if it gives an error message. I will update.

I just tried my Thai SIM card in my Verizon iPhone 6. It came up "No Service". But I did notice it didn't have my contacts from Thailand in it. It still had my US contact list (they are totally different).

I thought contacts were stored on the SIM? And does the No Service mean my iPhone is OK with that SIM?

Your iPhone is OK and no contacts on iPhones are never stored on SIM.

Go to Settings-mail contacts calendars- then click on import sim contacts.

Ahh. Thanks. I don't actually travel to Thailand for several months now but will try to remember to post on this thread if my new iPhone 6 works with the SIM from their pay as you go 1-2 Call service that I use.

You can only import the contacts from SIM if they are saved on the SIM to begin with. iPhones for one cannot save Contacts to SIM Card.

If you are moving between android / iPhone, I would recommend downloading a "Contacts Backup" free app from the respective app store and using that to create a backup and then opening it on another phone. Its very simple.

Thanks. Sadly I am moving from an iPhone 5c and iPhone 4. I had two, one here in the USA and one in Thailand. This bit of information bums me out a bit (though I thank you for it because it will save me heartache knowing it).

Looks like I will have to keep both sets of contacts on the phone whereas before I had totally different contact lists. I don't see any way around that but am open to ideas before I start entering the numbers from my Thai phone into my new iPhone 6. Probably do that tomorrow.

You can merge all contacts together, simply back the up using a app called "Contacts backup" from app store, then email it to your self or a email address that's signed into the new iPhone, then open the two backup's on the new iPhone and add the contacts its literally a 1 minute process, doing so will merge contacts from your iPhone 5C and 4 onto your new iPhone 6.

I can assure you it is 100% not made up "gate".

Its a policy problem thats affecting perhaps 1% or more of Verizon iPhone 6/6+ models. and the fact that it exists is reason enough for me to share and make people aware of it.

PS. if you don't have anything valuable to add to the thread, don't bother commenting.
Hi Guys,
I'm experiencing this problem in over sea. After searching around, I found this thread and seem like we havent got the solution yet. Whenever I insert a sim, the phone will go back to activation screen and " Invalid Sim" . Even a Verizon simcard. The phone model is NGAV2ll/a , Iphone 6 Plus Silver 64GB.
BTW Thank you, Allthings-I for posting this thread. I know it is very uncomfortable when people dont believe what you said. If you want, I can post a video to confirm this issue is exist.
If anyone know anything about this issue, please share.
If you haven't experienced this, doesn't mean it no exist.

Why would it not work with a Verizon Wireless SIM though?

I have the same experience.... earlier it used to activate with ATT, TM & Verizon SIM's internationally (SIM's without network), but it stopped activating on the Verizon SIM one day while it still manages to get activated on ATT & TM. Weird!

It works with any simcard within US.But when I take it to other country, it doesn't work with any sim card, even Verizon. :(

That's odd. If it's a Verizon phone then it should accept a Verizon SIM no matter where it is (it might not get a signal or go on roaming or something like that, but it should at least accept the SIM still).

Very True C DM. But unfortunately that's not happening.

I joined macrumours just to follow this thread.

I just purchased a AT&T iphone 6 but when carrier status check is run it shows the VZW N61/N56 tether notation. I wanted to use it overseas (the Philpppines) but from what I am hearing, that isn't gonna work.

Am I right to assume that these models are unlocked for domestic use but locked for international use?

What a bloody mess. I am going to go to AT&T and T-Mobile today to see if their SIM cards work in it.

Might be a phone problem or some other issue. I agree what C DM said, no way a Verizon phone should reject a Verizon sim card.

According to this thread there seem to be a very small percentage of phones that somehow do not accept non-US sim cards. The iphone 6 should accept ATT/TMO/VZW sim cards. As to whether your iphone 6 accepts a non-US sim you'll have to try it. But the stated policy is all phones are unlocked for international use.

I brought a Philippines SMART sim home with me but I need to cut it down to nano size to test the 6 plus I picked up off CL yesterday. Should have brought it with me today. I went to T Mobile and Verizon and the tested it with their SIM cards and it worked fine with them (LTE). So it looks like it is unlocked for domestic use. The phone was originally a Verizon phone (Verizon checked this - no balance due or anything) but it is now on AT&T. Going to AT&T to check with them tomorrow and see if they have SIM cutter so I can test my international SIM.

Again, this is an AT&T iPhone 6 that shows the US Verizon LTE MM N61/N56 Activation Policy issue in the carrier status report. Probable replacement phone.

Friends, if any of you guys are in US, can you try buying a Verizon 4G activation kit (approx. cost $49.99 with 1 month of unlimited calling and 1GB 4G LTE) and see if the policy on the iPhone 6 changes. I happened to speak to Verizon and they claimed that this would work, after activation, the iPhone 6 has to stay hooked on to Verizon 4G LTE network between 24 to 48 hrs. and the policy change would automatically take place from (Domestic Unlocked - International Locked) to (Domestic Unlocked - International Unlocked).

Verizon Iphone 6 - locked for international sim

Hello, I joined this forum specifically beacause of this thread regarding this issue. I live overseas in South America and have always had Iphones from Verizon for use here. I recently purchased four new 6's for my family. One worked as normal (unlocked and accepted the sim) and the other three will not activate with my overseas (Vivo) sim. "SIM INVALID" They activate and work with USA ATT and T-Mobile sim but not my overseas sim. Has anyone in the forum been able to resolve this issue? I spoke with Apple no avail.... "Verizon problem" per Apple.....

You are correct in assuming that your phone will not work with you overseas GSM sim. I have the same phone and it does not work with my overseas sim but does work with ATT and TMO..... Hopefully there is a fix coming....

Ok this is further confirmation to what we are suggesting, verizon phones purchased on contract at apple will be domestically unlocked only. Not internationally. Below is posted a verizon iphone 6 purchased via verizon (unlocked) compared to another verizon iphone 6 plus purchased on contract at apple (not unlocked). The activation policies are different as their are more in the unlocked version. Also the place they got purchased, the unlocked at verizon and the locked phone at apple but via contract.

Its safe to assume, IF YOU PURCHASE A VERIZON IPHONE AT APPLE "UNDER CONTRACT OR FINANCED', going forward they will not be internationally unlocked but only unlocked for domestic use.

So if the device was purchased from a Verizon authorized retailer, should it be internationally unlocked?

How can I check without getting an international SIM?

I believe the the activation policy your phone shows it also will not work with overseas GSM sim. Mine are the same , Activation Policy Details: US GSM/VZW N61/N56 Service Policy and the phone will accept a USA GSM sim but not my overseas sim.

Also, note that the locked "Model" you show begins with SVC and the unlocked does not. The phones I have that are LOCKED also begin SVC.

UPDATE. I finally cut my Philippines SMART micro sim to nano sim. Inserted it into my Verizon iphone 6+ with the "US GSM/VZW N61/N56" notation, and it works fine - no "invalid sim" messge. Put it in a Tmobile locked 6+ and the SMART sim comes up invalid sim as expected.

So, that iphone 6+ that has the limited Verizon N61/N56 policy seems to be OK with an international sim - it just says "no service." Carrier in Setting/About is noted as SMART.

Will update in two weeks when I am back in the Philippines to see if all is well. If not, I will three iphone 6+ ipods for sale....
