As we approach the Tuesday Verizon press conference, a few more details about the Verizon iPhone have been leaking. Reuters reported that the expected ship date for the Verizon iPhone.
Verizon Wireless, the top U.S. mobile provider, plans on Tuesday to unveil a version of the Apple Inc iPhone for its service and will kick off sales of the device a few weeks later, a source told Reuters.
Reuters says the iPhone will be offered under Verizon's existing service plans.

The Wall Street Journal clarifies and says that Verizon will be offering unlimited data plans:
Verizon Wireless will offer unlimited data plans when it starts selling the iPhone, a person familiar with the matter said, providing a key means of distinguishing its service from rival AT&T Inc.
Such a move would make Verizon's offering more appealing than AT&T's who recently capped their data plans for iPhone users. AT&T's present offerings include 200MB and 2GB capped plans with additional charges for overages. The unlimited data plan is no longer an option for new AT&T customers. Verizon has also been an advocate of moving from Unlimited to tiered data plans, but it seems for now they will be using the unlimited plan as a competitive advantage.

Verizon is hosting a media even on Tuesday, January 11th and is widely expected to introduce a Verizon-compatible iPhone.

As I posted in the other thread about this:

I hope that's the case but I also hope their network can cope with all the new data plans. Good luck to them. at&t needs some competition with the iPhone plans (they suck).

Now, will this in fact be a CDMA iPhone 4? Or will they have a special simcard? I know that in Canada the CDMA networks offer iphone 4's and hand out simcards. It would be great to buy an Verizon sim and switch with an unlocked iPhone.

Unlimited is something ATT can go back to once those that have been using the ATT service and dreaming of a Verizon iPhone leave for Verizon thus decreasing the data demand on ATT thus allowing them to go back to their original offerings. So no real advantage except for the consumer should ATT do this. ;)

More important are the rate plans. If they are significantly different than ATT then I think you will see more action on carrier switches.

With as terrible as ATT is in my specific area, even after "upgrades" to their system, the network still sucks wind. I would be very inclined to switch.

If this is the case, I have only one word, "tempting." :)

Pricing might be similar to the unlimited data plan for the iPad. Bonus.

Unlimited data ftw! What will that cost the user (and network) tho?

if you are referring to Telus or Bell, they moved to GSM/3G so they no longer use CDMA.

their older phones had sim cards however they were a lot larger than the standard GSM ones.

The iPad shipped with unlimited data plans also. We saw how long that lasted.

Yeah, on the incapable AT&T. We're talking about a network who can handle this type of stuff and has proven to with Android devices (who use more data than iPhone users).

long enough to get ready

even with a boost in data rates on the verizon network, they had to have been prepping for this for the last 3-4 years. Unlimited is the only way they will be able ot compete, even if for a short while.
In short, their network upgrades should have started years ago for this day.

I know that this new network thing is a big deal to those in the States, but for everyone else who reads these forums... tiz all a bit, well, boring really.

I vote bring it Verizon, now, so we can stop all the snooze-fest articles.

And the new Verizon iPhone will ship in an EXCLUSIVE White Color (Now this is why Apple REALLY waited)

this is an image from the Apple Store, it says that the White iPhone 4 will be available in the Spring of 2011 and will require a new 2 year contract with AT&T.

No it doesn't.

Next to the 'Black or white' it denotes '2' which is 'The white iPhone 4 will be available spring 2011.' Number '3' (of which is not denoted to the 'black or white') makes the statement about the AT&T contract- there is no connection to the white iPhone needing a 2-year AT&T contract.

Besides, even if it did, these were printed LONG before any negotiations with Verizon were finalized. I am now realizing how pointless this post is and now regretting replying to it.

That's what some of the carrier in Europe thought until they finally got the iPhone and the networks suffered. We'll see, but I won't be surprised if Verizon's network takes a big hit.

You obviously have no idea how CDMA works.

They will use unlimited data to bait as many unsuspecting customers as possible....then yank it just like AT&T did with the iPad. Typical slime ball cellular carrier tactic.

It would have to. VZW doesn’t use GSM at all and their LTE services isn’t fleshed out enough to depend on it alone without being able to drop back to CDMA.

Big difference - with Verizon there will be a contract, so at least if you start out with unlimited data, you'll have unlimited data for the length of the contract.

I dont know, I just hope its not a bunch of false hype but at the same time there is no official documentation claiming to be the iPhone on verizon...if so perhaps what happened is that Apple is allowing verizon to sell a version of the iPhone on their network and ATT holds exclusivity to the white iphone instead and verizon gets what it gets per se.

If its infact not the VZ iPhone like alot have been suggesting, there is going to be a lot of sour folks :(
