what do you mean slower speeds? Didn't VZ just upgrade part of their network to 4G? :)

Where do you know about data and voice access not being concurrent? :)
-The CDMA iPhone will most likely not have a 4G antenna/chip. Too much power consumption and the 4G network is way to small at the moment.

- Unless Verizon changes their network you can't use voice and data at the same time on any Verizon phone. That's a fact.

Sounds to me like Verizon's offering should be appealing to less than 2% of users since thats about how many iPhone users crack 2GB per month and Verizon's unlimited data plan is more expensive than AT&T.

I'm still so lost as to why people are so excited for Verizon to get such a data centric phone...seems like it is about the opposite of the network you would want to use an iPhone on...

CDMA so no voice and data at the same time

Worst battery life

No where near the wifi network AT&T gives you

AND MUCH slower data all over the place

Nah... the contract will allow VZ ot change the terms. Read the fine print.

The "contract" means you will be required to pay the ETF to cover the cost of your subsidized phone if you cancel before the 2 years is up. You may also be required to have *a* data plan. With Verizon's plans- just like AT&Ts- data charges are a monthly charge which can be changed (and prorated) any time in the billing cycle.

If the "unlimited" option was taken away you'd be able to keep it just like you can on the iPad if you were grandfathered in. New contracts after the unlimited plan goes away won't have that option though.

So no- there's not that much difference at all.

Both wrong. The contract will not allow VZ to change substantial terms like that. More importantly, the iPad did NOT grandfather in their original plan. Their original plan included the ability to stop and start the data plan at will; that part of the promise was broken (hence the class action lawsuit). Even if Verizon stops unlimited data for NEW customers, customers who signed a 2 year contract will continue to get unlimited data for the entirety of their 2 years (and won't have lost the ability to stop and start at will since they had no such ability in the first place), hence it's different than the iPad situation.

ah nvm verizon currently shows

Feature Phones &
3G Smartphones
(email and web for
BlackBerry/Smartphone) $15†† 150 MB $15 per 150MB Included
$29.99 Unlimited(Overage rate) — Included

If AT&T still has the leading edge, maybe they'll get new iPhones every summer and Verizon will get it in the Spring. But we have to wait for the keynote to see if they are actually going to release it soon, or with the next update in the summer.

What's your evidence for this? I can change my VZ data plan whenever I want, just like I can change my AT&T data plan whenever I want. WSJ reports $30 per month, with no mention of a 2-year obligation on the data rate.

Oh, you mean the class action lawsuit that the defendants aren't going to win? The current plan allows users to stop and start *a* data plan at will. AT&T no longer offers the unlimited plan. Original subscribers to the unlimited plan can keep the unlimited plan as long as they don't stop it all together ("grandfathering").

I sure hope this makes AT&T follow suit. Actually the whole Verizon thing is awesome, more people have choices how when it comes to buying a cell phone. And good for Apple too, it is finally taking a bulldozer to their US playing field and leveling it a big chunk more. It will be interesting to see what kind of dent it will have on Android.

So, when will we see the first Verizon CDMA iPhone get jail-broken to work on the Sprint CDMA Network?

:D

I don't think it will be too hard to get the iPhone to work with Sprint. The only thing is Sprint has to add the ESN to their database which I heard they never do. Although they might start doing so, considering their desperation for anything Apple (remember the Sprint iPad cases?).

Big difference - with Verizon there will be a contract, so at least if you start out with unlimited data, you'll have unlimited data for the length of the contract.
I grandfathered my unlimited iphone contract when they went to capped policy. So did my son. What are you talking about?

even with a boost in data rates on the verizon network, they had to have been prepping for this for the last 3-4 years. Unlimited is the only way they will be able ot compete, even if for a short while.
In short, their network upgrades should have started years ago for this day.

You think that's the only way they'll be able to compete? 'Cause it's not like there's a demand for the Verizon iPhone, or anything...

Sure, this detail sweetens the deal even more for those who were on the fence about this, but the iPhone on this network is going to give AT&T a SERIOUS run for its money, unlimited data or not.

...

The verizon iphone is clearly a response to AT&T cutting the data plans like a month after the ipad was released and going back on the deal they had cut with apple on the ipad

Winners/Losers

Apple, Yes.

Verizon, Yes (if their "untested" network lives up to the hype).

AT&T, Maybe (if a few of the high bandwidth and highly vocal complainers move to Verizon, network and "perception of bad service" may clear).

Sprint/T-Mobile, No. More users will leave.

Google/Android, No. Real competition across 75% of the wireless base means we can compare Apple to Apple sales.

Android HW Vendors (HTC, Moto, etc), No.

Wait, so when a user's contract runs out after 2 years, and say Verizon switches to a 2GB capped plan, the user either has to sign the new contract and deal with 2GB of data, or can they the pay full unsubsidized price for the phone without signing a new contract?

Same here, grandfathered ATT's unlimited plan.

It would cost me over $600 to go to VZW.

Break ATT contract + new CDMA iPhone 4 + y Year contract = $600+

Answer to unlimited

If this rumor is true, they are only offering this as away to sell an older phone on an older network. By the time this comes out LTE will be available on a host of Android phones.

I can't even begin to describe how happy I would be if the data is unlimited!!! Of course that won't last long, but if I purchase this and a data plan at launch I will get 2 years of unlimited right?

Assuming this rumor is true

Which service you use is very much a regional/local issue for many of us. here in the Bay Area, At&t sucks. Constant dropped calls and no bars. When I go to NYC and DC, same story. I also have a Verizon dumb phone and it has lots of bars when my iphone 3Gs has none.
Glad you live in an area where At&t is good, but lots of us don't. Or, maybe you work for At&t.
Oh, and by the way, Consumer Reports' readers survey results showed that At&t is the worst network of all four. Verizon was highest rated.
Of course lots of us want to switch.
