Let's think about it... Possible Verizon iPhone Announcement on 1/11/11!
Broken down... 1+1+1+1+1=5 Does it mean iPhone 5?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I almost don't want to see Apple stray from their normal sequence of annual iPhone changes. This doesn't seem right that Verizon would announce anything Apple related without a corresponding Apple release. I guess in a few hours we won't have to guess at it's meaning...

Steve Jobs will make announcement. Not a verizon exec. He has launched every new apple product. Why would he let them take the thunder? I'm not saying he's not going to be there, but let's look at history.

Who really cares?

What will make a difference is if Apple and Verizon partner up. I don't care if it's announced by Noah Wyle.

Doesn't matter if Verizon is hosting the event and not Steve. To me it simply means one of two things.

#1. It's a CDMA iPhone 4 w/o LTE, etc. So basically from the Apple side it's a release of the existing version. Jobs has yet to host any of those secondary carrier events for anyone.

#2. Verizon bowed to many MANY Apple demands, but they got one of their own to actually host the event for release as one of their demands. With a multi-billion dollar deal I could see Jobs and Apple saying "whatever, fine... you can have your single demand. We're going to count our billions".

The 3rd being Jobs will be there, and he will announce and it was their way of "trying" to keep it under wraps and they info bomb everyone like crazy.

Either way 12hrs and we'll know one way or the other.

Of course this is different. Those other carriers were using iPhone 4's, while this one will use different hardware. This is a physically different phone.

Unlikely that Apple had any interest in hosting the event.

Physically different yeah, but same feature set, so not really a new device. I'm sure it will still be called an iphone 4.

Less than 11 hours to go.

A couple of days ago I went to my local Verizon Wireless store. It was almost empty and I was thinking "the calm before the storm". I also looked at the Android phones and thought you poor things, soon you'll all be ignored big time.

That's where I was going. I agree a CDMA iPhone is a big deal as it's a whole new market, but on the flip side it's most likely still an iPhone4. Same hardware (with the exception of the necessary changes to function on Verizons CDMA/EVDO data network) for the user once the phone is booted up. Still the same CPU, Ram, screen, design structure, iOS version, etc.

If that's the case then Apple most likely looks at is as the next logical leap for the iPhone 4, but still an iPhone 4 and they're letting VERIZON handle the reigns as it's a release of an existing product.

Yes there are differences, but when you put the iPhone 4 GSM and CDMA versions in the users hands the general experience (minus data speeds) would be similar. It's just a new carrier.

We'll honestly see tomorrow. I work til 6am MST, then home by 7am. Crash for 2hrs, and see what happens.

This is more of a general question for anybody with Verizon. How are the international plans if you go out of the country? One of the reasons that I like having my JB/UL iphone is that I can just pop in a prepaid sim when I'm out of the country and use the phone. I'm still debating on moving to Verizon because AT&T has been ok so far (about 1 to 2 dropped calls a day:( ). Otherwise, I just might keep my 3Gs for out of the country trips.

wouldn't this unlimited data plan more likely have "subject to fair usage" policy that we get in Europe in the small print?

Competition

I am just glad AT&T has some competition. Now they have to get better on there overall business to keep there customers. iPhone accounts for 80% of all smart Phones sold. Lets see how they do when February 10 2011 when iPhone Verizon comes.
