The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is planning to begin mass production of a new Verizon-compatible iPhone 4 by the end of 2010. This would allow Verizon Wireless to begin selling the iPhone "early next year". The Wall Street Journal cites "people briefed by Apple" as the source of the information.
The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.
Apple has long been rumored to be considering a Verizon iPhone, with previous rumors similarly claiming a December production run for the phone, although no definitive announcements have been made.

Separately, the newspaper also reports that Apple is developing a new iPhone model. This fifth-generation iPhone is said to have a different form factor than those currently available. They were unsure how soon this fifth-generation iPhone would become available on Verizon.

Sounds like the last WSJ rumor... I'll believe it when I see it.

Jeepers! Apple's working on the new iPhone? Hold the front page, that's the scoop of the year!

WSJ has been wrong so many times now in their past predictions that I no longer find them credible.
The only person I believe on their staff is Walt Mossberg.

Just in time for Verizon's LTE roll-out! That'll be the big selling point of the VZW iPhone 4... LTE (w CDMA fallback where not available).

So, Apple is going to release the iPhone 4 on Verizon between January and April, and then release the fifth generation iPhone on AT&T during June/July?
That's not happening.

I have a dream, where posts about the iPhone coming to Verizon are no more....

Yea, WSJ sure is reputable now.

If you predict enough, one of those times you're going to be right.

The new form factor will be two cans connected by a rather long string. Somehow, I don't think this will be Apples best product.

PS. The string will work with all networks.

but but but but but but will they get a white one? with they still have the antenna issue? ;) ;) ;)

Can't they just Shut up!!!

Man, can't they just shut up already. How many times do they have to do this! Has Steve Job gave any hint's. Read this message... there is no iPhone 4 for freaking Verizon....

Someone had a lot of AAPL calls they needed in the money before next weeks expiration day. :D

Heard it. They said it would be by december, now it's by early next year. This has been said before, it's not true and at this time I don't believe Apple has any interest in getting in bed with a carrier that demands it's branding all over their phones.

They've got a nice deal with AT&T to keep the iPhone looking like an Apple device, not a carrier device.

The rumor that will never die.

Maybe someday the iPhone will come to Verizon, and the people reporting these rumors will have guessed right.

I still would like to know how two controlling companies like Apple and Verizon would be able to work together.

The red V alone would be non-starter for Apple.
