I wish the iPhone would get released on VZW so we can move on to the entertaining rumors. This has come up so many times it's kind of annoying.

Just in time to use the old network while Verizon rolls out their new LTE network?

One thing you don't have to worry about with a Verizon iPhone is using data while you're on the phone.

Why are people assuming a CDMA iphone would go to Verizon?

There are other large CDMA markets in the world, e.g. China.

They are assuming this because this is what the WSJ was told by people who had been briefed by Apple. That's the story that is moving the stock market for the companies involved, so investors believe the WSJ was reporting actual news.

The China angle has been discussed here many times. We assume that China will also get a CDMA phone, but this particular story was about Verizon.

iPhone 5 LTE

For both Verizon and AT&T.

AT&T will have GSM backup. Verizon will not have CDMA backup but GSM roaming backup on other carriers.

AT&T LTE will be available in the next year or two.

Verizon LTE iPhone will not be available for several years.

Steve Job will not do CDMA.

Verizon will not issue a LTE phone with GSM roaming backup until their system is available to 80% of the population.

Sounds like my Brother-in-Law remodeling my bathroom

Always saying he's just around the corner, but somehow he never seems to arrive.

American CDMA != China CDMA.

China CDMA uses R/UIM cards, which are similar to SIM cards. America's CDMA protocol is fundamentally broken and incompatible with China's on the baseband level.

BTW

Their is a precedent for using roaming on other carriers as backup.

In 2000 my first digital (CMDA) Sprint phone used analog roaming backup on other carriers.

Sprint system started as all digital

So maybe the first Verizon phone might come within two years.

Verizon LTE for primary.

T-Mobile or even AT&T GSM roaming for backup.

I was just joking. I agree it is no issue. It's just anytime there is a rumor about any change to the iPhone design a bunch of people jump in saying they should get a free upgrade because of the antenna thing.

I disagree. Only the fanboys here scream it's not an issue because they hold the thing in awe like a prized ruby! LOL

While other phones have a similar issue, it was clearly proven that the iPhone has it the worst, and especially bad if you hold the phone a certain way. Apple didn't admit guilt, but they sent out free cases now didn't they?

Consumer Reports still says the phone has more of the antenna problem than other similar phones and Apple pulled its comparison tests after it was shown they were kind of fudged and they got caught.

Those are the facts, but I am on MacRumors, so it's no use arguing here.
Resistance is futile. :D

The Verizon iPhone will be available whenever the white iPhone becomes available.

Maybe they should make one phone that works on both networks?

An LTE model would work on VZW and AT&T's LTE networks. I'm certain that any LTE-compatible VZW phones will have CDMA fallback for the next couple of years until coverage is complete.

Also, it's not inconceivable that they would have a tri-mode LTE/CDMA/GSM phone (for worldwide roaming).

OK, I agree the antenna thing does impact some user's experience with the phone. I think if Apple has a simple fix that they should be able to implement that fix at anytime. But then there is a camp of people who would get upset that they have the older model.
My original joke was for the people who would complain about Apple fixing what some people consider a problem with the phone.

How about convergence: Apple & Verizon leverage each other: surprise intro of iPhone 4G as the flagship for the 4G/LTE network?

This "new form factor" iphone better come out the normal time they come out so us iP4 owners are atleast eligible for the $200 upgrade.

I bet you dont even have an iphone 4. So of course you're right and the "fanboys" who claim its not an issue who actually HAVE the phone are wrong.

It's going to happen. Jobs will announce it in January, and it will be released with iOS 4.3 in March.
