Not here to bicker but I commented on something I have info about and my info does not come from what is in the media. I haven't logged in really since 08 and happened to run into this thread. Lets just say this January of 2011 there will be an iPhone for Verizon. I have no clue if it will be LTE or CDMA but I got the news a couple of days ago. This is why people are now going to have to pay $325 etf if they want to jump ship.

Good - let them go. I jumped ship from Verizon because of its phone service and customer service. I have been on AT&T for a little over 6 weeks and do not regret one minute. This phone is great. AT&T customer service has been great.
I could be offered a free phone and would not go back.

Um...companies do this all the time when they release a new version of something...wouldn't be anything different. There has to be 'upgrades' anyways to make it CDMA compatible. They would be even more ignorant to not fix the antenna issue since they have to put differnet/new componets in it regardless.

Oh, and my contract with Verizon will be up in December and if the iPhone is coming, then Blackberry is going to lose a customer.

Upgrades and product improvement is one thing, it is a totally different thing to redesign something that Apple has defiantly said is not a problem, that is an lot like admitting you had a problem and like someone else said, there would be a huge negative backlash.

I am doubtful of the Verizon rumors because of their track history, but if it does come it will be a very similar phone to ATT, IMHO.

I just wish verizon would go ahead and get this damn phone already. :(

i agree... i'm sick of hearing about it already.... i want them to hurry and and get it so people can start bitching about verizon's crappy network and their tiered data, nickle and diming, etc!

hoping for a redesign is a pipe dream...if Apple redesigns a new phone for verizon and not AT&T I won't ever buy another iPhone again and I would certainly demand my money back...as would so many other customers...can't the fanboys understand this?

loser...

<>>>>>You would "Demand Your Money Back"???

Really? On what premise? Mental anquish?? That you're insulted about the idea of a Verizon phone? LOL!!!

Demand your money back...

If the phone goes to Verizon it will for sure have a redesign. The current design of the iPhone 4 already very tightly packs everything into the phone. By switching to a CDMA compatible chip, the innards would have to be completely changed and/or relocated which would essentially lead to a phone redesign.

It will have been 6 months since the phone was released and so you would not be able to get a refund. Apple has the right to release a new phone whenever they want to, and it has no effect on the phone you currently have and purchased. While it is courteous of a company not to release a new phone in a short window, 6 months most definitely is a long enough time.

Actualy it is confirmed that Verizon will
get the 3GS. Verizon will always be a year behind AT&T. I am obviously more "in the know" than anyone else here.

That is very interesting. It might reduce the number of people leaving AT&T for Verizon. If you can have an iphone 4 on AT&T but only a 3GS on Verizon, some might want to stay with the more advanced phone, even if on AT&T.

So what happens this January when this annual prediction doesn't come true again. I have got a good idea, perma-ban anyone who stated they were in the know about it, and publicly flog Gruber or any other a-clown who says they "know" there is one in the works. People have been saying this for the past 5 years those who are not newbies to this game will know this is all a bunch of crap. Just let CDMA die already. The US is so hampered by this old tech.

Naw, they'll just update their predictions and say "due to manufacturing/licensing etc. delays the Verizon iPhone has be pushed back 6 more months! It'll be out June 2011!!!!"

In the link it says Verizon is going to announce this at CES which is coming up, so quit fighting about if it is or isn't, we will know one way or the other very soon.

I'm hoping it's true because I'm tired of only getting AT&T edge network or no signal about everywhere I go. When I had verizon, I had an almost constant 3G signal everywhere.

I can't wait for the iPhone to go to Verizon! I will stay with AT&T. What people don't realize is when all these people that always bitch about AT&T jump ship and go over to Verizon they are going to see the same issues. How well do you think a network is going to handle your calls when all of a sudden you gain millions of customers in a matter of days. I have a work phone that is on Verizon and I always get dropped calls so I could only imagine how bad it will get. Never had a dropped call with my iPhone and I live in a rural area!

I see, so the high number of people on a given network would cause a weak signal like I have almost everywhere with AT&T? I didn't realize the number of users could affect cellular coverage, which sucks with AT&T. I guess people buying Verizon iPhones will somehow magically improve AT&T coverage?

An iPhone that can actually be used as a phone - would you guys like that?

You do realize that countries other than the states exist, right?

All that funny business with dropped calls you guys are suffering from in the states simply doesn't exist for most of the countries out there. Me and my brother, we both have iPhone 4s and live in two different european cities. ZERO problems.

In fact, I probably have had 3 dropped calls in total since I got my first iPhone in september 2007. All because of tunnels.

Yes.. large numbers of users can affect signal and coverage. Each tower can only handle a certain number of users at a time. Ever been to a large sporting event? Ever try making a call at one? Good luck.

I work in downtown Cincinnati. Today, sitting in my office, I am getting 3-4 bars of 3G showing on my phone. Yesterday, the Reds were playing a day game two blocks from my office. I was alternating between 2 bars of edge and NO SIGNAL showing on my phone for most of the day, until later in the afternoon when the fans had all cleared out of the stadium.

The german consumer-reports-equivalent Stiftung Warentest tested the iPhone 4 and found 90% signal loss (with just one finger touching the antenna at the right spot - as opposed to other phones with 25% signal loss using the "death grip").

Please stop this "there is no antenna issue" or "there is an antenna issue but only in the US" idiocy.

It's ridiculous and pathetic.

There is an antenna issue. The iPhone 4 antenna is a design flaw. Big deal.

LOL I hope I remember this post in January. I will be happy to laugh at you.

AT&T has about 10 months left of their exclusivity. Apple wont release another iPhone until June of next year. Which is approximately when the AT&T Exclusivity contract expires. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your absolutely wrong. Apple wont break their contract with AT&T....

Right now, I am assuming that this is just another Verizon rumor (though it does have more to it this time). But just because ATT may still have time on their exclusive contract (which many reports have said is until 2012) does not mean something won't happen.

What if Apple did go to ATT and say, OK, let us end the exclusive period early so we can go to Verizon also and we'll give you another 2 or 3 or 5 or whatever years of semi-exclusive terms. Say, they get the newest iPhone 6 months ahead of Verizon and anyone else who gets it, like others have mentioned. That still has some value to ATT and they would lose the exclusive at some point soon anyway. This gives them something of a soft landing.

Something tells me this is just not right. I could see it affecting the ability to make a connection, but not the actual signal strength. That's not how radio waves work.

More likely, "let us end the exclusive period early and we'll let you end the unlimited data plan part of our agreement."

you know, with all that I have read in regards to ATT and Apple's contract negotiations, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. This type of semi-exclusive (period) contract is happening more in the video gaming world with games coming out on one system before the other...

Anyway, for those of you who care and like conspiracies, ATT recently released their SEC filings and in that, they had a good chunk addressing how the company will avoid problems, customer loss, etc... when their exclusivity contracts end....

Now stay with me.... their only exclusive contract is with the iphone. So think, why would a company state these potential risks if their exclusive contracts were good for another 2 years?

Now I'll be honest, I REALLY want the iphone to come to VZW so my judgment may be skewed but the rumors of the VZW iphone this time around seem to have far better support.... mass orders of CDMA chips by apple, SEC filing about ending exclusivity deals, John Gruber (seems like he's been right many times in the past), WSJ article... etc... It's really overwhelming.

And why on earth would Apple spend time and money re-designing last year's product for one of the nation's largest carriers? It makes absolutely no sense. Apple knows it needs to expand market share, and the only reason we don't have an iPhone on Verizon is due to the exclusivity agreement with AT&T.

There are hybrid GSM/CDMA chipsets that could be used, and while I don't think the entire phone needs to be re-designed the antenna may definitely need to be re-visited due to the likelihood of a single iPhone model supporting both GSM and CDMA standards. Apple has always been all about keeping things simple, and having two different versions of the iPhone - CDMA and GSM - doesn't seem to click with Apple's product philosophy.

My bets are on a single iPhone 5 handset in January that will be available on both GSM and CDMA networks with a combined chipset. This would be consistent with Apple's product philosophy, and the same chipsets will also appear in next year's iPad 2. I believe Apple is eager to leave the iPhone 4 PR disaster behind and get on with a new model. The stars seem to be aligning with Apple's desire to move past the iPhone 4 "issues", expand the handset to another US carrier (Verizon) if for nothing more than market share reasons, and upcoming availability of hybrid GSM/CDMA chipsets from Qualcom.

The next six months will be interesting.
