The new unlimited is the old limited... whoever came up with this nonsense should be fired!!

You guys missed the part where they redefined "unlimited" in 2 new ways: "Beyond Unlimited" and "Above Unlimited."

"Still unlimited, but now with caveats."

What a joke.

So what we're getting in the UK...

Three are doing a deal called 'Go Binge'. For approx $15 per month, I get 4G, 4GB data, unlimited calls and texts, but I also get unlimited streaming of Netflix (SD only), Apple Music, Deezer, TV Player, History Channel, Soundcloud Lifetime and Snapchat. Interestingly, this means streaming only. If I download Netflix to my phone, it comes out of my allowance. If I stream, it doesn't. Good deal?

You aren't reading this incorrectly, rather the problem is that this article is poorly written, worded, and/or researched. MacRumors is passing this 75GB off as a data cap, but it is really just deprioritization. After 75GB, your speeds will only be slowed down if you are in a congested area – people who have used less data will be put ahead of you on the tower. While you will face slow downs at these times, there is no speed cap or throttling. You get what is left over after those who haven't reached their deprioritization threshold have been served. On the other hand, if you live in an area where Verizon's network isn't congested, you won't experience any network management and you can actually use as much as you want.

Finally someone actually gets it!

Go unlimited deprioritized all the time
beyond unlimited deprioritized at 22gb
above unlimited deprioritized at 75gb

Deprioritization is not a throttle people!

Yes. Exactly. Everyone complaining about the use of 'unlimited' isn't reading the information correctly. The data use is unlimited, the portion that is limited is the access to unrestricted LTE data.

So then what would you call it when you never lose access no matter how much capacity you consume?

I’d call that... the result of me paying my bill in full and on time. Voila! I still have access.

The only sane reason I can see for defending these anti-consumer business practices and policies is if you are an employee (and a shill) of one of the offending companies. Otherwise, why bother? What’s in it for YOU?

People, in general, just make me sick with how they treat each other these days. Then you have these heartless people who are paid to go online and argue and spin everything positive to defend these downright hateful business practices. It’s utterly despicable!

How stupid can a person be to not see the truth through all of this half-ass manipulation?

This is my situation, I used 30gb on my number the last billing cycle and didn’t have any slowdowns.

Those prices are astonishing.. Is the free market sleeping in America? Where is the competition?

In most of the European world today you can get better service for a fraction of that price. Seriously, check out this screenshot I just captured from a leading cellular provider here in Israel (you can ignore the Hebrew text, the numbers speak for themselves):

That one on the left is 70 Shekels (not dollars) for 100GB LTE. That is $20 a month for 100GB. About a quarter of the price? Am I correct? And that's before multiple line discounts.

My friends, something is very wrong with the US cellphone market.. These companies are clearly not actually competing!

If you look at the size of the USA versus Israel, it’s easy to see which one is more cost efficient to cover. The plans are cheaper because they have to build and maintain less cell sites.

I want to start a business and you can buy unlimited widgets for $2.99, but it’s unlimited until 2. Apparently that’s legal

True, though not entirely correct.. In fact, our southern part (over 50% the area of Israel) is a desert with extremely sparse population. And even it is covered quite nicely - you can go on hikes in much of this area and never lose reception. Part of the success is that the cellphone companies learned to be very efficient at sharing antennas and infrastructure in these less populated areas, realizing that it is for their mutual benefit. This has been very significant at driving down costs.

Which still doesn't even really compare to most states in US, let alone the whole country.

That is their plan to purposely confuse people as most people correlate 4G LTE with speed. There is no other reason to put in the "4G LTE" in the "Unlimited 4G LTE Data" and instead just say "Unlimited Data."

Imagine if car rental companies offered Unlimited Miles and then put in a disclaimer of saying "After 500 miles your car will be throttled to bicycle speeds."
To be fair, car rental companies have various limitations of that type, they can say unlimited mileage but you aren't allowed to go to another state or something like that.

I like the sound of a “75 GB” plan. That can stand on it’s own. It sounds honest.

Can’t wait for the 100 GB unlimited infinity plan.

You are confusing unlimited data with unlimited bandwidth. The data is unlimited, the bandwidth is not.

I am no fan of what all the carriers are doing here, but TECHNICALLY they are giving you unlimited data... They don't advertise unlimited speeds...

Basically all of that.

I'm waiting for the next iteration of unlimited plans:
"Unlimited without Limits"
"Infinitely Unlimited"
"Limitless Unlimited"
"Unlimited Unchained"
"Unlimited in Your Dreams"
...or some such :)
