I hope verizon does get the iPhone. 90% so I never have to see anymore "is the iphone finally coming.." threads, 10% so the few people I know that use verizon and want an iphone can get one.

I don't get this. When people switch to Verizon, it's not that they are going to put their AT&T phones in a drawer no? Those phone's will be sold to other people and still use AT&T's bandwidth?

What? You don't get this? People will be switching to Verizon (People will be LEAVING AT&T) People will sell their iPhone to people who have broken or old iPhones and their broken or old iPhones will YES go "in a drawer" or trash. Get it???

2 questions..

1.) wonder what happened to the 5 year exclusivity?

2.) I hope my new verizon iPhone is susceptible to the jailbreak bootrom exploit used in all the current A4's. Chances are??

(1) was never confirmed - just rumored. Guess it was 4year exclusivity after all.

(2) don't think anything changes here (but I don't care)

how clever verizon a 1-11-11 at 11 event, lets just hope that its worth the excitement

I hear that the Beatles are coming to Verizon...

Seriously, I'm a long time lurker that could just never pull the trigger and join in on the iPhone to Verizion threads as they've hit front page for the last almost 2 years until now. This will be hilarious if Verizon is co-debuting the iPad2 and not an iPhone.

As a user of Verizon, i've been out of contract for at least 4 years, just waiting for something that I want to be on their network. I've got plenty of friends here in iPhone land (the Bay Area) who've gone back and forth from spotty to great coverage for me to want to flip over to AT&T. At least with this hopeful announcement i'll finally be able to make a final jump one way or the other and not continually second guess myself on whether or not the phone really is hitting Verizon right after I make the plunge the other way.

I can't wait to hear that if this is the iPhone, if it'll be able to do simultaneous voice and data, which has been half the reason i've never accepted Android as my phone lord and savior.

Gizmodo managed again to screw another 'big' announcement - this time by not being invited  - At least this time they didn't do anything illegal

Hahah. True. I wonder if they will ever be invited to any Apple related things since that leak.

Yes, some of them. Some of them will be sold to dumb-phone users who will then be adding data plans.

And I don't get the people that think they will get better reception. There will be less saturation the towers and backhaul, this will resolve issues where you can't get a call out due to overcrowding or your speed is too slow due to bandwidth limits, but reception won't change.

I thought of this, but let's face it, it would put Apple in a confusing situation if/when they release a new revision this summer. Either they'd have to admit that they're replacing their previous model name after only six months, or they'd have to skip 'iPhone 5' entirely, or they'd create further user confusion by having to maintain two distinct product cycles for essentially the same phone.

I'm guessing they call it iPhone 4 and the ads just say something like 'iPhone 4. Now on Verizon. Rule the Air.'

Rebuttal: Hot Fuzz.

First, they are not essentially the same product. The difference in the radio will make them very different. I could see Apple identifying them with some indicator of some sort so that people can tell which carrier the phone is on. Perhaps iPhone 4V? (Perhaps C for CDMA or L or LTE is more likely). And it's very possible one of the carriers negotiated some sort of 6 month exclusivity on new features. This happens all the time in the wireless world. So we could easily see an iPhone 4C on Verizon and 6 months later see an iPhone 5G for GSM?

But who knows what they will do, we could all guess all day long and never get it right. Apple could take a complete left turn and call it the iPhone Ultimate! LOL

Yes, I agree the reception will not improve by freeing up the network. The only way it will improve is if AT&T makes improvements. Which could happen if they really want to compete with other carriers who will now have the iPhone. If people do switch due to AT&T's reception problems AT&T will want to improve their network.

Very good points. Many people confuse "Reception" with "Bandwidth". :apple:

Did you notice they removed all mention of Apple from those drop down boxes? Sounds like they were testing it out real quick when you caught it. I checked it out yesterday and it was there and now it isnt. interesting :)
