The only time Steve Jobs tends to present something is when a new model is launched. He wasn't around when the iPhone came out in every other country....because there's nothing to present.

"Hello everyone, Verizon now has the iPhone....features are the same, thank you and good day."

No way Apple lets Verizon do the announcement.

Based on ?

Apple has let carriers annouce they were ending exclusivity in other countries, what makes the US different ? Canada had a Bell&Telus joint announcement to say Rogers lost iPhone exclusivity, same in Germany.

5$ though that this is about the CDMA iPad. :p

This is it folks, seems that rumors are true. Announcing on Tuesday for a Feb 3rd launch. This is just too much of a coincidence for it to not happen.

What else could they have to announce after CES?

Apple wouldn't really need to host this if it is true. It really isn't a new product launch (in the eyes of the consumer). It would still be the iPhone 4, just now being carried by another provider. And if Apple makes this an event, it dilutes anticipation of their own event coming up for likely release of a new iPad. It's not like Steve would go on stage and demo a new product on the big screen. Let's face it, it's the iPhone 4 still.

Well... to me this is proof that it's coming to Verizon. Why else would they hold a press conference like this?

And seriously-- why would Apple hold their own? It's going to be the SAME iPhone 4, just different internal parts that most consumers don't care about anyway as long as it works! What the heck would Apple talk about at their own press conference?

My guess is Steve Jobs or somebody else from Apple will be present at the Verizon event.

They aren't releasing a brand new product here people. It's simply going to a new carrier. Pricing, plans, and other information comes from VERIZON, not Apple.

No way Apple lets Verizon do the announcement.

Sure they will. In exchange Apple gets huge margins on the phone sales as with at&t in the beginning. These negotiations began last August. This launch does not carry the same internal pride as in 2007. Verizon gives Apple the subsidies on a device it desperately wants. In turn Steve let's them hold the show and looks forward to being a 200 Billion Dollar Company in a year with 60 Billion in the bank. All waiting to pounce as Cloud Based Infrastructure Capital Investments. :apple:

Remember, it's about the $$$ with Verizon. Android will eventually fragment into Windows7 for Smart Phones as device makers look to lock down their devices more than Apple ever tried.

Android 3.0 is as bloated as Windows Vista.

The Assimilation Continues. :apple:

nope, just like in november, december, and ces.
I'm inclined to disagree as this is a legitimate invitation from Verizon, it fits with the rumors and if it were anything else then Verizon would have announced it at CES.

BTW:I am annoyed that this isn't the iPad 2 but I suppose that that will be held off for a March launch :(

Get you popcorn ready. And if this indeed is the iPhone on Verizon announcement, it's probably a safe bet that el jobso will be present. (one would think anyway).

And I'll just say this for all of you anticipating leaving AT&T to go to Verizon ... don't let the door hit you in the ass! ;)

I wonder what this means...

"This invitation is not transferable and should not be posted or shared."

Lowell McAdam is the same guy who stated that any CDMA iPhone announcement would be coming from Apple, not Verizon.

Because at that time Apple was giving them the cold shoulder. HE played his cards right. Lets face it. Any of the major cellular networks in the US would see great gains in clientele from the iPhone. The ball was and is in Apples court.

I sure hope they fashion the event after Samsung's CES Keynote.

Anyway, this makes perfect sense, as some others have already posted. There's not enough substance in this announcement for an Apple special event, given that it's virtually the same phone they're already selling.

I do expect Jobs to be there, but wouldn't be shocked if it was just Schiller.

It'll be interesting to see if they say anything about the nature of their partnership going forward (knowing Apple, though, they probably won't say anything).

...I am a happy ATT customer but this is still exciting!

same here. Finally people will stop bugging me 'did you hear anything about the Verizon iPhone', no more new rumors every day about this, no more ... yes, everything will be better now

Steve jobs will not share the spotlight like this.

People keep saying that, but I see it differently. The iPhone is an existing, known product. Theres nothing new to talk about outside of the new carrier availability... So it's seemingly one of the few times Apple can happily pass the buck. Let Verizon have their moment. That's not to say that Steve won't be there, because it's more likely he will be.
