Verizon Media Event Scheduled for January 11th: iPhone Announcement?

I agree with this. Also why I would not jump onto the verizon iphone until the next revision... verizon will be seeing an update to this initial phone within half a year (maybe with 4G???)

Well... to me this is proof that it's coming to Verizon. Why else would they hold a press conference like this?

And seriously-- why would Apple hold their own? It's going to be the SAME iPhone 4, just different internal parts that most consumers don't care about anyway as long as it works! What the heck would Apple talk about at their own press conference?

My guess is Steve Jobs or somebody else from Apple will be present at the Verizon event.

They aren't releasing a brand new product here people. It's simply going to a new carrier. Pricing, plans, and other information comes from VERIZON, not Apple.

I don't even think that a sub-category of an existing product division is a "Steve" event. If this is an VeriPhone announcement, it seems like a "Phil" event.

Get you popcorn ready. And if this indeed is the iPhone on Verizon announcement, it's probably a safe bet that el jobso will be present. (one would think anyway).

And I'll just say this for all of you anticipating leaving AT&T to go to Verizon ... don't let the door hit you in the ass! ;)
No.

Steve makes announcements at Apple events, not anyone else's. If the banners on the building and the logo on the stage aren't Apple's, Steve won't be there.

Steve doesn't play second banana to anyone. He needs no introduction.

Steve will make the announcement in Cupertino or SF, at an Apple-controlled event. If you don't understand what a control freak Steve Jobs is, you fundamentally know nothing about him.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

To those that say this isn't a big enough deal for apple to do themselves look at the hype surrounding this thing, I mean come on it's not just a new carrier it's an entirely new iPhone! Hello!

The only time Steve Jobs tends to present something is when a new model is launched. He wasn't around when the iPhone came out in every other country....because there's nothing to present.

"Hello everyone, Verizon now has the iPhone....features almost are the same, well, things CDMA does not support are of course missing , thank you and good day."

fixed it for you

I dont think even Steve could mince out an hour Keynote talking about how different the pixels in 'VERIZON' are compared to 'AT&T' on the Signal bar.

He hasn't appeared at every launch when a carrier has lost exclusivity somewhere.

I just read that when the iPhone is availabl eon other carriers and in other countries the announcement is made via press release.

I'm not sure why anyone would want a Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 at this point. New phones in June and CDMA is on it's way out. Just wait 5 months for iPhone 5 at least, possibly with 4G.

No, it's NOT an entirely new phone hence why steve won't be announcing. It's the same phone on a different carrier, at least that's my opinion. They release new iphones in the summer time for the past 4 cycles I don't think they are going to change that up for a single carrier.

introducing the new Motorola droidxxx with added xxx just to make sure you know its a xx and windows 7 Based chiped phones and one last thing a phone you can already get on another network whalla

Cause there are some people that actually like talking on their phone instead of getting dropped constantly.

Why would they let Verizon announce the CDMA iPhone when Apple is going to have it's own event to introduce the iPad 2 very soon? Wouldn't they just do it at the same time?

i'll bet you $5, paypal. :)

Yeah I'll take the same bet also.

1. CDMA iPad doesnt warrant an event, especially with iPad2.0 right around the corner (and it's too early for ipad2).

2. So what if it's not in Cupertino. Yes, it's big enough news for verizon to have an event for iPhone but the only difference in the phone itself will be the CDMA chip and perhaps a different antenna structure. Not news that Jobs needs to call a press conference for. Now, I do agree that Steve may be in attendance but it doesn't warrant a full-up apple event. The next Apple event will be iPad2.0.

Announcement

No way Apple lets Verizon do the announcement.

This really isn't an Apple announcement- it's a Verizon announcement. Nothing new on Apple's end- it's not a new product or upgrade. The carrier owns the hype for this.

With no Verizon iPhone rumors to float around though, would this announcement mean the demise of MacRumors? What ever will people talk about?

Trust me, there is a market for a CDMA iPhone. Whether or not Apple thinks the costs associated with designing, manufacturing, and marketing it are worth it is a separate issue.

However, there are clearly a large number of Verizon customers who would be happy to use an iPhone on their network, as well as a large number of AT&T customers who would switch carriers at their convenience.

If you have read more than a couple of iPhone threads in the two years you have been a member of this forum, you should have recognized this market demand.
