Simply put: no.

I know you were trying to keep it simple, but please, elaborate. What makes you feel so strongly that it isn't an iPhone? Most of their other major announcements for the foreseable future likely happened at CES. What do you think it's for?

Ok people need to start keeping tabs on Stevo's movements.

VZW announcement and have SJ walk out on stage. Opinion?

I'm not sure why anyone would want a Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 at this point. New phones in June and CDMA is on it's way out. Just wait 5 months for iPhone 5 at least, possibly with 4G.

Tony

I think we'd just see an iPhone 4S, with the processor running at 1Ghz, not underclocked, and maybe a slightly better camera.

I want a Verizon iPhone as much as anyone, but ......

1) It simply says "share the latest news" not "unveil the future" or something
2) 11:00 east coast is 08:00 west coast. Seems early to have any West Coast reporters paying attention.
3) This is probably just be the East Coast version of what Verizon is showing off at CES right now. Those LTE speeds would be a lot more impressive in person, especially in the network heavy NYC. There are a LOT of NYC journalists that probably don't cover CES, but the LTE would be interesting to their business clients (as opposed to flashy consumer electronics).
4) why would Verizon drop a bombshell less than a week after CES? Apple doesn't go to CES, so they might do something like this (and have). Verizon just had a huge LTE presentation yesterday (while these invites were being prepared).

sorry, but I don't think this is the VZW iPhone

No.

Steve makes announcements at Apple events, not anyone else's. If the banners on the building and the logo on the stage aren't Apple's, Steve won't be there.

Steve doesn't play second banana to anyone. He needs no introduction.

Steve will make the announcement in Cupertino or SF, at an Apple-controlled event. If you don't understand what a control freak Steve Jobs is, you fundamentally know nothing about him.

Strange, as someone else in this forum just posted previously Steve Jobs attended an O2 announcement in London in 2008. Unless you have spoken to him recently and he's told you differently now?

Why would they let Verizon announce the CDMA iPhone when Apple is going to have it's own event to introduce the iPad 2 very soon? Wouldn't they just do it at the same time?

AT&T lost its exclusivity on Jan 1, Verizon wants to go ASAP and didnt want to overshadow CES.

I think maybe one of the conditions of the agreement could have gone like this: Apple lets Verizon introduce/co-introduce with SJ if and only if Verizon agrees not to load their crapware on the phone or put their sticker on it. Sounds reasonable to me.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8B117)

Verizon data - reliable but unbearably slow.

But Verizon invited an Apple-centric site to the announcement.

it is amusing how some take it so personal that Verizon may get an iphone... as if apple and att are tied together somehow. if Verizon had taken the deal back then and became the exclusive carrier i wonder if there would be the same reaction if att was on the cusp of getting the phone as well

I know Apple likes to do special events, but would they do one **just** for the iPhone to be available on Verizon?
I mean, this doesn't make any real difference to anyone outside the US.

The only time Steve Jobs tends to present something is when a new model is launched. He wasn't around when the iPhone came out in every other country....because there's nothing to present.

"Hello everyone, Verizon now has the iPhone....features are the same, thank you and good day."

Pretty sound logic for a "newbie." I agree with this.

I am now 7% sure that this announcement will be about the iPhone on Verizon. COME ON Apple get the iPhone on all carriers. Its been on EVERY carrier in the UK for about a year now.

Well, this type of announcement is distinctively Apple, so it's very likely that it's an Apple product being announced. It makes sense that Verizon is giving out the announcement if it's an iPhone. It builds the excitement, confusion, and anticipation that we iOS addicts crave. I'm predicting the iPhone.

Of course, it could be the Verizon iPad, but that seems unlikely because the iPad is due for a refresh in the next couple months, and it would be odd if Verizon got a CDMA refresh for an out-of-date model. (It would be odder still that Verizon announced the new iPad!!!!!)

The iPhone, however, is a very good candidate, although based on this, I wouldn't expect any new features on the Verizon iPhone. It's not due for a refresh until the middle of the year, so this is likely going to be purely expanding the existing iPhone to a new carrier. (I wouldn't be surprised to see very slight case tweaking to improve the antenna, though.)

Steve jobs will not share the spotlight like this.

How would this be sharing the spotlight exactly? If it's Apple's product on a new network, it's all about Apple. Plus, secrecy about a Verizon iPhone is maintained if Apple is not mentioned anywhere on the invitation. People will still buy the iPhone on AT&T, oblivious to this event. It's genius.

The heads of Verizon publicly stated that Apple would make any such announcement.

So it would be an Apple event with secret guest Verizon

Yes, they did say that, but likely only in the process of deflecting any premature questions on the subject. We don't know what the actual agreement between the two companies is, if it exists.

Simply put: no.

Mr. (or Ms.) Warbrain, I've been following your reactions to any and all iPhone rumors for a while now, and anytime anyone mentions the other carriers, you are quick to dispel.

I'd like to know what your thoughts/predictions are regarding the iPhone on carriers other than AT&T in the US.
