If only Verizon was held to the same standard....

I'm sorry, but I'm not catching your drift. Is it that VZW doesn't offer discounts on phones, doesn't provide a service being paid for, or what? (Believe me, I don't enjoy "tri-opolies" or forking over $130/mo. any more than the next guy; I'm just unclear as to what you were implying.)

He's implying that Verizon feels free to change the rules whenever they see fit. But they do not allow you to do so. In the past 19.75 months they have had me on 3 different statuses regarding my unlimited data. In a week I''ll be ready for an upgrade and I'll be forced to give it up, even though I was promised and it was promoted that Early Verizon iPhone customers would be given unlimited as a reward for sticking around while there was no iPhone or as a reward for coming back to Verizon as an iPhone customer. It was all a lie. If the point is that people should live up to promises made, then it should go both ways.

They are allowed to move the contract if they see fit....we are not...seems simple enough. On top of that, their laughable interpretation of words like "unlimited" with little or no recourse for the customers to fight them on it leaves customers like me with no recourse to do anything.

Oh, yes...we could leave and pay several hundred dollars in ETF fees...and that leads people like me with only AT&T to go to.....which has little to no signal in my area (and I know b/c I had them for 6 of the last 10 years).

So, joy joy. Fake capitalism works

Very true.

I too hung onto unlimited data for two years thinking that when the iPhone with 4G LTE came out, I would be grandfathered in. I was told so by a CSR at a store when I directly inquired. So here I am, for two years, paying $60/month ($30 on my line, $30 on my wifes) just to retain unlimited data. Did I need it? HECK NO. We hardly used 2GB every month. But I considered it an "investment" as I was told I could carry it forward. FALSE. I've now been forced to either pay MORE (a la unsubsidized phone) or get on to the tiered data plan. I chose the latter based on our data consumption.

I just wish I had been accurately informed up front, that's all.

How come nobody brings up the point that if you buy your phone outright, you still PAY THE SAME AMOUNT EACH MONTH??

What benefit is there to buying it outright if you plan on staying with your carrier? You are actually paying MORE for the service right?

Ye gads.... Buying outright makes sense in every other country BUT the US - well, unless you are with t-mobile.

They don't do the annual upgrades around the time they took on the iPhone 4. They do 19 months upgrade cycles, though. I bought my iPhone 4 in February 2011, but I'm eligible on October 6th.

I opted to buy my iPhone 5 full price since I wanted to keep my unlimited data plan.
