It's not a $40 payment for everyone and for all devices.

Actually, it is. Go to verizonwireless.com and pick one of the advertised bundles. When you add the devices to get access to that bundle, each one will require its own $40 monthly fee. So that $130 for 30GB really turns out to be $200 more to total $330 per month when you want to share it across five smartphones. Here's the proof:

But it's not. Since owned devices and those on Edge plan can get a monthly discount per line. Other devices like feature phones or tablets are also cheaper than $40/month.

IF you get a subsidized phone. Which in my case, with three iPhones and the 10GB ME data plan, would've worked out to be $190 more expensive per line over the life of a two year contract. YMMV.

These "deals" are embarrassing. It doesn't make any logistical sense to me how it costs so much to check out espn.com and work on the phone you already pay so much.

now from a business standpoint, you charge what people will pay, and clearly people will pay too much. It's obscene

I figured out my cost and to go to a 40GB level, I'd pay more for two lines than I am for my two lines with unlimited data. This is a no go for me.

Goodness, you Americans sure do get ripped off. I pay £10 for a GB of data a month, £30 would get me 8GB.
Is this prepaid or something like that? There are plenty of MVNO carriers and other pre-paid offerings that are cheaper, but have other limitations or deficiencies (for at least some) because of that.

£10 a month with a one month contract. Sure you have to buy the phone but it still works out a hell-of-a-lot cheaper than what you guys pay.

I feel sorry for you guys.
Well, again, there are plenty of cheaper options available as well as I mentioned.

Simple Reason

The prices are high (although recently reduced) due to lack of competition. Legislation to improve competition won't be introduced as these companies pay millions of $ to politicians to block or make sure nothing is passed to impact this.

I have to say, this is even more apparent in the home broadband market. Since the UK opened up competition and split the operations arm of British Telecom and the Retail arm, broadband prices in the UK have plummeted due to increased competition. In the US you have 2 choices. Where Google has introduced it's offering, the incumbents have been forced to improve.

Might be something on change.org to sign or contact your local congressman/woman or senator to complain. Or you can just keep writing on forums like this and nothing changes.

Seems like quite a bit has been changing over the last few years, from different phone purchase options to different pricing options and expanded networks and new features, etc., etc., etc.
