Interesting, I just got off the phone with vzw and they told me that I had to order online, over the phone or at the store, DIRECTLY through verizon. Apple.com purchase was NOT eligible for the $200-300 trade in.

Yeah, I really don't know -- I think I'll just order through Verizon to be safe and then call and add AC+ when I have the devices serial No.

I don't think VZW was well prepared for this launch in terms of setting a policy and informing their front line reps.

So this is my question(s). I'm assuming they're doing away with the new every 2 program where you get a discount on a upgrade at the end of your contract in lieu of this buy back *****?

Meaning if I didn't trade in my old iPhone 5 for $200 and I wanted to buy the 66GB 6 I would have to pay $300? my only concern is that since I don't buy the protection plan that I should just hold on to my iPhone 5 in case I drop or break the new one.

Can anyone confirm that I would be able to re-activate my old 5?

I was told the same, has to be through Verizon, online, phone or in person to get the trade-in. Was also told that the iPhone 6 CANNOT be "billed to account" on pre-orders, but must be paid for in full. Going through Apple disqualifies you for the $200 trade-in. I've been through two separate online chats and was told the same each time.

If you’re going the instore route here is what Verizon is offering:

If you trade an iphone 4,4s,5 or 5c in towards an iphone 6 you will get $200 of credit to be applied to your phone purchase. If you trade in an iphone 5s, you will get $300.

My 64GB iPhone 5 was given a $250 quote on the Verizon website.

Ok, I just got off the phone with one more rep and this appears to be the most consistent with the details of the promo on their site:

You can pre-order the iPhone 6 or 6 plus online and either:

1) Do the trade in promotion online, in which they would send you a box to send back your old phone and then would send you a $200 or $300 gift card to use how you please.

2) Take your old iPhone into a Verizon store to do the trade and get the credit put on your account immediately. You will have until 9/30/14 to do this.

**She told me multiple times that you can bill the phone to your account as long as you do NOT have a past due balance and the equipment will not make your bill more than $450. If it is more than $450, you cannot bill the phone to your account.**

So if you want to get the credit to your account immediately and don't want to take gift card, take your phone to the store.

A store rep told me today that you couldn't do a preorder and charge it to the bill. She said you can only charge phones that are available to the bill not preorders. I was hoping that wasn't true because I would love to charge it to my bill then wait on the gift card and it wouldn't cost anything out of pocket in the morning.

Similar answers here! Just talked to someone from Verizon via the live chat.

Basically she said this:

  • You can bill the iPhone to your account, up to $450 (and this applies to the entire account, not per line. So you can't bill 2 $399 iPhone 6s to your account)
  • You will also have the option to get it shipped to a nearby Verizon store so you can pick it up the morning of the 19th, instead of waiting for it UPS/FedEx to get to your house. Also said that if there is trouble with this online, you can call in and they definitely will do this for you as well.
  • The minimum trade in price for the iPhone 4, 4s, and 5 is in fact $200

The one question I have not seen answered is, in order to receive the $200 credit, do I have ti get the 16GB version or can I take the $200 and still get the 64GB version?

They basically give you a $200 Verizon gift card that you can use towards whatever model you want.

The trade-in values will not be valid until tomorrow.

How is that? I went to the site, but in my info that I wanted to trade-in my phone and the website gave me a confirmation back that it'd be sending me an envelope to send my phone.

From the verizon website:
Starting on 9/12/14 you can visit verizonwireless.com and place your preorder for the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Once your purchase is complete, visit the online trade-in website to submit your trade request. You must submit your trade between 9/12/14 & 9/30/14 to receive this promotion.

I don't know then because it gave me a promotion amount of $77 over normal trade in value with a total trade in value of $250.

The rep also told me that it can be any of the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus options. And as posted above, the site states the same.

Then you should submit your trade-in today. Me, I will wait until tomorrow and get the full $200 for my 4S.

That's great you can pick it up at the store!

Does anyone know what "good" condition is for a trade in? My iPhone 4 has no issues at all, has a quarter inch scratch (I don't even know if you'd call it a scratch) on the top left that is not deeper than a hair (you can only see it if the light is a certain way and it looks like a small piece of hair), and has some standard dust/light dirt in the charger and earplug jack. I'm probably going to swing by a store today to ask them if it's tradeable to be sure. I'm assuming they can't expect immaculate phones...

I just ran my iphone 4s through the verizon trade-in site and it shows an appraised value of $76 and promotion value of $34 for a total of $110.

I notice when clicking through the various screens there is an option to enter a promotional value. Is it possible that once you place your order for the new phone you will receive some type of code that you will need to enter in the promotional box to get the advertised trade in value, in my case $200 and not $100.

Thank you for confirming! Verizon, you should have a talk with your rep "Ray" who gave me FALSE information.

Can anyone else confirm that you can bill the verizon online preorder to your monthly bill? Seems to be some confusion around this. Basically, I don't want to pay upfront for the preorder, so it would be nice if I could

1. preorder tonight
2. bill the preorder to my monthly bill so I'm not paying anything yet
3. turn in my iPhone for trade in credit on 9/19 in store so I can get the gift card
4. apply it immediately to my bill, so I wouldn't be paying anything out of pocket

Just wondering about this because I don't have $400 or whatever it would be plus tax and activation fees upfront to pay for the phone on preorder day

Nope, to get the $200 you have to do the EDGE plan vs the subsidized. I have 4 devices 3 of which are owned, so EDGE wouldn't work for me, but it might for you. Chat them up and find out, that's what I did.

The one thing I didn't make clear with the rep I spoke with: Did the rep tell you that you can:
A) bill up to $450 of equipment to your account
OR
B) That it has to be no more than a total of $450 on the account total. Example: Statement balance for the month is $190 and adding a $400 phone will put it over $450 -- therefore you cannot bill it to your account?

Thanks!

Umm - that is not correct.

You will receive a $200 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5c, and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

Either of the 3 options will work for the $200 gift card.
