So when I get back from work, the Verizon and Apple preorder pages will have already been up for 12 hours. Which means I have no chance of actually getting a preorder that wont get put on backorder.

Any way I can use a friends subsidized upgrade and just have him send me the phone to activate on my account?

Yep he can just use his upgrade, and when he receives the phone he can send it to you. However you'll have to get a new LTE sim or have it flashed at the Verizon store.

He did say they are not selling Full Priced "unlocked" iPhone 5's on Friday and that might be the confusion.

See, and I was told that too. However I specified, I don't want an unlocked one, just an off-contract non-subsidized one and they were clear, no full price pre-orders.

Oh well only time will tell.

My existing contract with verizon is not up until June of 2013. I have an existing unlimited data plan, grandfathered in.

I have read that verizon will allow you to buy a iPhone5 at full price, to keep the grandfathered plan. Even though I am under contract until then, will I be able to buy an iPhone5 on Friday for the $649 full price?

Thanks

FWIW, I got my iPhone 4 the last day before unlimited data ended and would be eligible for subsidized pricing March 5, 2013. Of course given that I'd lose unlimited data I don't exactly have incentive to wait till then...

I hope it is confirmed that they'll honor their promise of keeping unlimited if you pay the full price. My only fear even if so is that they could institute throttling anytime, which would really make the cost not worth it.

I hope they honor their promise. I'm dropping 8 benjamins on a device to keep unlimited data.

That's it he specified it has to be on contract.

However it turns out it's exciting :)

Best.

I plan on just having the phone sent to me and i'll call up verizon and have them activate it. Why would i need a new LTE sim?

Yes

Is pre ordering through Verizon a success? Do you get them on launch day if your on when pre orders start? I just want to make sure it's not like best buy ore ordering where you have to wait forever. Can people chime in with Verizon experience?

Talking to a rep now who says it's midnight pacific & to adjust accordingly.

Midnight pacific, excellent thank you for the clarification.

Hmm "on contract".. buying full price has nothing to do with contract. I think some reps have issues.

If someone upgrades their phone with the iPhone 5 and has it sent to them, it will have their phone and account information on the LTE sim. If he gives it to you then you need to get your information on the sim.

Yep, delivered on launch day via Fedex.

Update: talked to another rep who said all of the other reps are full of B.S. & are only speculating b/c VZW hasn't been given any official info.mas of yet b/c the news is too new.

I'm just switching to AT&T because Verizon is taking away my unlimited data. It's not worth buying full price because they will just throttle you. AT&T has better shared plans. Bye Verizon.

I was thinking that myself. I'm assuming vz will have a PR before tomorrow night

From what I gathered talking to the Verizon rep, I just call them and they make the swap OTA. Will Verizon allow apple to ship the phone to a different address other than the billing address of the account holder?

I have pre ordered through verizon before and it was faster than Apple in my case I live in Cali.

Oh, I was unaware verizon can flash LTE sims OTA now... with the Thunderbolt a new one was required.

Nevermind..

I assume they can, I just spent 20 min on the phone with Verizon going over the process and it seemed pretty simple. They said just call them up and they will activate it.
