I have an older Verizon plan. Theoretically, this new plan would be a little cheaper. So I start the process of changing my plan on their website. Then the "fine print" comes out: 1. I lose my extra "bonus data" promotion I got when purchasing an IPhone 6 and... 2. I lose another discount I'm getting now. So the plan that should be cheaper ends up being more expensive and I lose bonus data. Nice job, VZW.

Have you tried calling Verizon to see what they say about it and what hey can do?

Everything I've read here on Macrumors has people saying 2G. Verizon is clearly telling me 3G. I'm going to believe Verizon because they are liable for what they put down in writing.

I just called them and they told me it was 2g. lol I guess they don't even know for sure.

I think each corporate entity is entitled to as much of your income as you are willing to part ways with. :D

Don't forget about VAT in Europe. The great thing about the special taxes you mention (and VAT), if there is anything great about taxes :p, is that it is a use tax so you are only charged if you feel the need to use the product or service. You are not penalized for being successful and earning more income.

No, you are penalized for being less successful and earning less income, and disproportionately so. While wealthy and successful are able to save and invest money (which is taxed at a lower rate), the poorest must spend almost (or even more than) everything and are thus forced to be taxed to buy things like toothpaste and food, never mind money orders, payday loans and banking fees.

Also, how well are you dodging taxes like internet access fees? Cell phone surcharges? Have you given up eating yet?

For anyone who switched to one of the new plans: is your LTE Voice and/or WiFi calling still working?

The App Store stopped downloading (surprise, surprise) and I restarted my phone -- now the app store works but my LTE Voice and Wifi Calling are both off and can't be re-enabled.

never got this wierd difference... voted among most happy country in the world since forever... never had an insurrance in any way, gone to school all my 40 year life for free, owner of 7 different mental dissabilities and absolute lowest income in my country (about homeless status in your country)
...here is a picture of me going shoppaholic at one infinite loop.... think I will go and get the new watch there again when they release it. (pic will not upload)
where american money is going I can only speculate...all I know is that I come from generations of lowest income and mental disorders in my country but in la i shop at farmers market all the time

and now also the 4g connection!

honestly your socialist Bernie wants what we have.

someone is inside the americans .....elbow deep

While Denmark overall seems like a nice country. Remember it's very homogenous country and small one at that. The USA is a huge country both in terms of population and land mass.

And to the best of my knowledge. Immigration is a taboo subject in homogenous countries. Doesn't seem like many of the European countries are welcoming the Syrian immigrants with open arms.

If your 4G cell cost supports the size of the USA land mass let me know. Denmark is about 1/3 the size of Florida. It's small.

Look at other countries as big as the USA and their coverage. Canada is very expensive. Brazil is fragmented. Russia? China?

Not that I dont believe you, but you're basing your opinion on experience from five years ago. A lot has changed in cellular technology since then. I find these days even in rural areas I can get LTE signals where before I would get nothing, or at best a lousy HSPA signal. A lot of the carriers offer "test drives" where you can try out their service for a week or two and see if it works well for you with no obligation. It might be worth trying that out and seeing if the coverage in your area has improved since then.

You're right, especially since T-Mobile has band 12 deployed now. I don't want to break my contract, but the next time it's up for renewal I'm probably going to re-evaluate my service/carrier just because of this.

People love to complain. Many of the plans are only $5 more/month. And yes, some people could even drop down a plan. Verizon could have cut rates across the board and someone would complain - that you can be sure of!

I sure didn't complain. I switched.

God forbid you find yourself making modest income, not rich, but well-paid and self-employed. You have to pay self-employment tax and personal income tax and just about all credits and deductions are capped, while you are bumped to a higher tax bracket, while the wealthy shelter their fortune and find loopholes to pay less.

Donald Trump even figured out a way to pay zero taxes. Nada. Zilch.

Doesn't T-mo offer some kind of contract buyout to those interested?

"unlimited 2G"....??!!! Are they really touting that as a benefit?

Meanwhile I'm paying $70 for 6 GB of data per month on AT&T... could be getting 33% more per month for what I'm paying if I were on Verizon instead.

You need to go back and get a better deal.

we are about 1/50th the size of US with about 1/50 the population.
not only can I use my cellphone subscribtion all over europe but also in the US no extra charge. (you could get a Danish data cellphone subscribtion for cheap and use in the US...like 20gb. for 20$)
Its true that some of the less educated europeans are not very friendly towards refugees but the small number tend to get alot of media exposiure.

safety mode?

don't make me laugh.

it's a straight up money grab cause 128kbps is useless today.

I'm actually considering one of these new Verizon plan as AT&T is getting increasingly worse in the Chicago area. I might also consider t-mobile as their roaming plans are just awesome. I guess I'll have to try t-mobile. Does anyone have experienced them in Chicago ? And how does it compare to AT&T before it got bad during the last few months ?

This discussion comparing European and American cell phone plans is pretty funny to me. I've always thought I was getting great deals here in the US compared to my parents in Belgium.

They actually pay $28 for only 300 mins, unlimited text (text not picture messaging) and 2 gigs of data. This is only from and to Belgium. Everything else come on top of that and if they call an American phone number they pay almost $2/min.
Unlimited data plans do not exist in Belgium even at 2g speed.

So actually I think I'm getting a pretty good deal here in the US.

The same applies for landline, home internet and tv. They pay about the same as me with RCN cable but they have way way less for that price.

Belgium is about the size of Maryland so it's not like they had a huge territory to cover

Yep. That's how they get ya.... people like my father-in-law who has far more money than time, just do whatever the person in the store tells them... so switch to these plans it is. Then again, even under contract where phone subsidy is the main perk, he didn't upgrade every 24 months either...so he left some of that $ on the table.

For me, I've done the math and while the new plans appear "cheaper", like you've found, I would lose bonus data and I would lose another discount (well, it'd be reduced) I'm getting on my "more everything" contractual plan. Not to mention, Verizon pays me $450 every year toward a new phone. I have 2 lines on my plan and waaaay back when they still offered 1-year contracts, I put my wife on one. It was like $17 more at the time. Best decision I've made in a long time because now we alternate years for when we're due for a new phone. So this year, early september, I'll get a new phone and if they let me, I'll keep my "more everything" plan and Verizon will pay $450 of my phone cost. Next year, it'll be my wife's line. So over the period of a 24 month contract, Verizon kicks in $900 of phone subsidy. Divide that by 24 (months) and these new plans need to be $37.50 cheaper per month for me to switch.... and they're not....

Yup, I'm in the Chicago area and the coverage, based on my own experience, is superior to AT&T and that includes most suburbs. I switched from AT&T and now drop far fewer calls. I use the phone for business, so that was really important and honestly I was a little worried at first, as you are now. I feel I get better service now. Indoor reception can be spotty at times but has vastly improved recently and WiFi calling solves most problems. It's seamless, too. Countryside can be pretty slow with some dead spots at times.

I recently took a road trip to northern Wisconsin and had service at all time, with no issues. So rural areas have clearly improved as well. And if you travel abroad, T-Mo is simply the best.

I would absolutely recommend you try them out.

Things can change. For now it's wise to stay on same plan. (I have both Verizon and att).

Getting less and less beneficial to maintain true Verizon unlimited data when we have to pay $30/2gb on the other 4 lines. Especially when the rate for true unlimited goes up to $50/month in October 2017 for me unless I find another loophole.

Also ATT eliminated subsidy for us grandfathered plans as well.

Sounds like you need to redo the math if you're paying the 40 per smartphone device charge.

How does Verizon pay you?

No, you are penalized for being less successful and earning less income, and disproportionately so. I can (and do) subsidize my grocery bill with a garden so yes, it can be avoided.

Internet is a luxury. Do you think all people in third world countries are required to get internet or risk death?

The point is, the tax falls in line with whatever you are using, so you have a choice, instead of having the government just lop off half of everything and say "mine," but we will purchase these services for you to use as a replacement for some of it. The government doesn't produce anything. They just spend your money.

Beware of using the app for this. This is what it showed for 16GB. If you accept it, VZW doesn't honor the signed contract. They'll charge you the full price (not shown).

Perhaps a glitch somewhere and a call to Verizon would get it resolved?
